New Living Translation

Darby Bible Translation

  • The Thousand Years

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pita and a heavy chain in his hand.
  • Satan Bound the Thousand Years

And I saw an angel descending from the heaven, having the key of the abyss, and a great chain in his hand.
  • He seized the dragon — that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan — and bound him in chains for a thousand years.
  • And he laid hold of the dragon, the ancient serpent who is [the] devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
  • The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.
  • and cast him into the abyss, and shut [it] and sealed [it] over him, that he should not any more deceive the nations until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be loosed for a little time.
  • Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
  • And I saw thrones; and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them; and the souls of those beheaded on account of the testimony of Jesus, and on account of the word of God; and those who had not done homage to the beast nor to his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and hand; and they lived and reigned with the Christ a thousand years:
  • This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.)
  • the rest of the dead did not live till the thousand years had been completed. This [is] the first resurrection.
  • Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.
  • Blessed and holy he who has part in the first resurrection: over these the second death has no power; but they shall be priests of God and of the Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

  • The Defeat of Satan

When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison.
  • Satan Cast into the Lake of Fire

And when the thousand years have been completed, Satan shall be loosed from his prison,
  • He will go out to deceive the nations — called Gog and Magog — in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle — a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore.
  • and shall go out to deceive the nations which [are] in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war, whose number [is] as the sand of the sea.
  • And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them.
  • And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city: and fire came down [from God] out of the heaven and devoured them.
  • Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
  • And the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where [are] both the beast and the false prophet; and they shall be tormented day and night for the ages of ages.

  • The Final Judgment

And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide.
  • The Final Judgment

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled, and place was not found for them.
  • I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.
  • And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is [that] of life. And the dead were judged out of the things written in the books according to their works.
  • The sea gave up its dead, and death and the graveb gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds.
  • And the sea gave up the dead which [were] in it, and death and hades gave up the dead which [were] in them; and they were judged each according to their works:
  • Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.
  • and death and hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, [even] the lake of fire.
  • And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
  • And if any one was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
