The LORD’s Messenger Comes to Bokim

The angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said to the Israelites, “I brought you out of Egypt into this land that I swore to give your ancestors, and I said I would never break my covenant with you.

Господній ангел пішов з Ґалґала до Ридання, до Ветилю і до дому Ізраїля, і сказав їм: Господь, Господь вивів вас із Єгипту і ввів вас у землю, про яку клявся вашим батькам, що дасть її вам! Я і сказав вам: Не знищу Мого завіту, який уклав з вами, до віку.

For your part, you were not to make any covenants with the people living in this land; instead, you were to destroy their altars. But you disobeyed my command. Why did you do this?

Тож ви не складатимете завіту з тими, хто живе на цій землі, та їхнім богам не будете поклонятися, але знищите їхні різьблення і розіб’єте їхні жертовники! Ви ж не послухалися Мого голосу. Оскільки ви це вчинили,

So now I declare that I will no longer drive out the people living in your land. They will be thorns in your sides,a and their gods will be a constant temptation to you.”

то Я сказав: Не продовжуватиму переселяти народ, про який сказав Я, що винищу їх з-перед вашого обличчя! І вони будуть вам на страждання, а їхні боги будуть вам на спотикання.

When the angel of the LORD finished speaking to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly.

І сталося, коли Господній ангел сказав ці слова до всього Ізраїля, то народ здійняв свій голос і заплакав.

So they called the place Bokim (which means “weeping”), and they offered sacrifices there to the LORD.

Через це дано назву тому місцю — Ридання. І там вони принесли жертву Господу.

The Death of Joshua

After Joshua sent the people away, each of the tribes left to take possession of the land allotted to them.

Ісус відіслав народ, і кожний з ізраїльських синів пішов до свого дому і до свого спадку, щоб успадкувати землю.

And the Israelites served the LORD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the leaders who outlived him — those who had seen all the great things the LORD had done for Israel.

І народ служив Господу всі дні Ісуса і всі дні старійшин, які довго жили з Ісусом, які пізнали кожне велике Господнє діяння, яке Він зробив для Ізраїля.

Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.

І помер Ісус, Господній раб, син Навина, у стодесятилітньому віці.

They buried him in the land he had been allocated, at Timnath-serahb in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

Israel Disobeys the LORD

After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.

І весь той рід приєднався до їхніх батьків, а після них постало наступне покоління, — вони не знали Господа і діло, яке Він звершив для Ізраїля.

The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight and served the images of Baal.

11

Тож ізраїльські сини чинили зло перед Господом, і служили Ваалам.

They abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the LORD.

Вони залишили Господа, Бога їхніх батьків, Який вивів їх із єгипетської землі, і пішли за іншими богами, за богами народів, які довкола них. Вони поклонялися їм і викликали гнів Господа,

They abandoned the LORD to serve Baal and the images of Ashtoreth.

This made the LORD burn with anger against Israel, so he handed them over to raiders who stole their possessions. He turned them over to their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to resist them.

І Господь запалав гнівом на Ізраїля і віддав їх у руки грабіжників, і пограбували їх. І віддав їх у руки їхніх ворогів, які довкола, і вони не змогли встояти перед обличчям своїх ворогів

15

Every time Israel went out to battle, the LORD fought against them, causing them to be defeated, just as he had warned. And the people were in great distress.

в усьому, у чому чинили зло. І Господня рука була їм на зло, — як і сказав Господь, і як поклявся Господь, Він дуже їх пригнобив.

The LORD Rescues His People

Then the LORD raised up judges to rescue the Israelites from their attackers.

Тоді Господь підняв їм суддів, і спас їх з руки тих, хто їх грабував.

17

Yet Israel did not listen to the judges but prostituted themselves by worshiping other gods. How quickly they turned away from the path of their ancestors, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commands.

Та вони не слухалися своїх суддів, бо зраджували з іншими богами, поклонялися їм і розгнівили Господа. Вони швидко звернули з дороги, по якій ішли їхні батьки, щоби слухатися Господніх заповідей, — не чинили так.

18

Whenever the LORD raised up a judge over Israel, he was with that judge and rescued the people from their enemies throughout the judge’s lifetime. For the LORD took pity on his people, who were burdened by oppression and suffering.

І коли Господь піднімав їм суддів, то Господь був із суддею і спасав їх з руки їхніх ворогів усі дні судді, бо Господь був зворушений їхнім стогоном перед обличчям тих, які їх грабували і чинили їм зло.

19

But when the judge died, the people returned to their corrupt ways, behaving worse than those who had lived before them. They went after other gods, serving and worshiping them. And they refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

І ставалося, що коли помирав суддя, то вони поверталися і знову псувалися більше від їхніх батьків, щоб ходити за їхніми богами, аби служити їм і поклонятися їм. Не позбулися своїх звичок і не відступили від своєї злої дороги.

20

So the LORD burned with anger against Israel. He said, “Because these people have violated my covenant, which I made with their ancestors, and have ignored my commands,

І запалав гнівом Господь на Ізраїля, і сказав: Оскільки цей народ залишив Мій завіт, який Я заповів їхнім батькам, і вони не слухалися Мого голосу,

21

I will no longer drive out the nations that Joshua left unconquered when he died.

то Я не буду більше виганяти з-перед них жодного з народів, які залишив Ісус, — і залишив їх,

22

I did this to test Israel — to see whether or not they would follow the ways of the LORD as their ancestors did.”

щоб випробувати ними Ізраїля, чи дотримуватимуться Господньої дороги, аби ходити нею, як дотримувалися їхні батьки, чи ні.

That is why the LORD left those nations in place. He did not quickly drive them out or allow Joshua to conquer them all.

Тож Господь залишив ці народи, щоб не вигнати їх швидко, і не віддав їх у руки Ісуса.
