    Так выслушай, Иов, речи мои
    и внимай всем моим словам.

    Elihu Rebukes Job

    Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear mine utterances, and hearken to all my words.

    Вот, я уже открываю уста,
    говорит язык мой в гортани моей.

    Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my palate,

    Слова мои исходят от честного сердца;
    что знают уста мои, скажут честно.

    My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge purely.

    Дух Божий создал меня;
    и дыхание Всемогущего животворит меня.

    The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

    Ответь же мне, если сможешь,
    приготовься и возрази мне.

    If thou canst, answer me; array [thy words] before me: take thy stand.

    Мы равны с тобой перед Богом
    — из той же глины я взят.

    Behold, before God I am as thou; I also am formed out of the clay.

    Страх передо мной тебя не смутит,
    и рука моя тебе тяжела не будет.

    Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor my burden be heavy upon thee.

    Ты при мне говорил,
    и я это слышал:

    Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words: --

    «Я чист, и греха на мне нет.
    Я невинен и непорочен.

    I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me;
  • 10

    Но Бог отыскал за мной вину
    и считает меня врагом.

    Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy;
  • 11

    Он ноги мои в колодки забил,
    и за всеми путями моими следит».

    He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
  • 12

    Но я говорю тебе: ты не прав,
    потому что Бог выше смертного.

    Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; for +God is greater than man.
  • 13

    Для чего тебе состязаться с Ним,
    говоря, что на слова человека Он не отвечает?

    Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
  • 14

    Ведь Бог говорит либо так, либо иначе,
    хотя человек и не понимает.

    For God speaketh once, and twice, -- [and man] perceiveth it not --
  • 15

    Во сне и в ночном видении,
    когда смертных объемлет глубокий сон,
    когда они дремлют на ложах своих,

    In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
  • 16

    тогда Он открывает им слух
    и страшит их своими видениями,

    Then he openeth men's ears, and sealeth their instruction,
  • 17

    чтобы отдалить человека от зла
    и удержать его от гордости,

  • 17
    That he may withdraw man [from his] work, and hide pride from man.
  • 18

    чтобы сберечь его душу от бездны
    и не дать ему перейти стремнину.81

    He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.
  • 19

    Или на ложе его вразумляет недуг
    непрестанной болью в его костях,

    He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and with constant strife in his bones;
  • 20

    так что его жизнь гнушается хлебом,
    а душа — лакомой пищей.

    And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;
  • 21

    Истощается его плоть, ее не видно,
    выпирают его кости, скрытые прежде.

    His flesh is consumed away from view, and his bones that were not seen stick out;
  • 22

    Его душа приближается к бездне,
    и жизнь его — к тем, кто приносит смерть.

    And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.
  • 23

    Но если есть ангел на его стороне,
    заступник, один из тысячи,
    наставляющий человека на прямой путь,

    If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his duty;
  • 24

    кто82 пожалеет его и скажет:
    «Избавь его, пусть не сойдет он в бездну;
    за него я выкуп нашел»,

    Then he will be gracious unto him, and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

    то плоть его станет, как у младенца;
    и вернутся к нему его юные дни.

    His flesh shall be fresher than in childhood; he shall return to the days of his youth.
  • 26

    Он помолится Богу и найдет милость,
    он увидит лицо Бога и возликует.
    Бог вернет ему его праведность.

    He shall pray unto +God, and he will receive him with favour; and he shall see his face with shoutings, and he will render unto man his righteousness.
  • 27

    Тогда он воспоет перед людьми и скажет:
    «Я согрешил, правду искажал,
    но пользы мне это не принесло.83

    He will sing before men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it hath not been requited to me;
  • 28

    Он искупил мою душу от бездны,
    и я опять вижу свет».

    He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.
  • 29

    Истинно, все это делает Бог
    с человеком два-три раза,

    Lo, all these [things] worketh God twice, thrice, with man,
  • 30

    чтобы душу его отвести от бездны,
    чтобы свет живых на него просиял.

    To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

    Внимай мне, Иов, и слушай меня.
    Молчи, и я буду говорить.

    Mark well, Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.
  • 32

    Если есть, что сказать, то ответь мне;
    говори, я хочу тебя оправдать.

    If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.
  • 33

    А если нет, то меня послушай.
    Молчи, и я научу тебя мудрости.

    If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.
