Затем Элигу сказал:

Elihu Reminds Job of God's Justice

Elihu spake moreover, and said,

— Считаешь ли ты справедливым,
что сказал: «Я праведен перед Богом»89 —

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

и спросил: «Что мне за польза,
что за выгода не грешить?»

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Я отвечу тебе
и твоим друзьям.

I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Взгляни на небо и посмотри;
рассмотри облака — они выше, чем ты.

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

Если ты согрешишь, чем Его заденешь,
если множишь проступки, что причиняешь Ему?

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Если праведен ты, что Ему даешь,
что получит Он из твоей руки?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Твой грех коснется лишь тебе подобных,
твоя праведность — сынов человеческих.

Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

Люди стонут под гнетом притеснения;
молят об избавлении от руки мучителей.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Но никто не скажет: «Где Бог, мой Творец,
Который дарует песни в ночи,

But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

Который разуму нас учит через зверей
и мудрости — через небесных птиц?»90

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

Взывают они, но нет им ответа
из-за гордости злых людей.

There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

Да, Бог не внемлет пустой мольбе,
Всемогущий ее не слышит.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Тем более Он не слышит ,
если ты говоришь, что Его не видишь,
что дело твое — перед Ним,
и что ты Его ожидаешь,

Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

да еще, что гнев Его медлит,
и на преступления Он совсем не обращает внимания.

But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

Для пустой болтовни Иов открыл уста
и слова без знания множит.

Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
