    — Утешайте, утешайте народ Мой, —
    говорит ваш Бог. —

    Prepare the Way for the Lord

    Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

    Говорите с Иерусалимом ласково,
    объявите ему,
    что его рабство закончилось
    и грех его искуплен;
    что он получил от Господней руки
    вдвое за все свои грехи.

    Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her time of suffering is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

    Раздается голос:
    — В пустыне приготовьте путь Господу190;
    выпрямите в необитаемой местности
    дорогу для нашего Бога.191

    The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make straight in the desert a highway for our God!

    Всякий овраг пусть поднимется,
    а всякая гора и холм — опустятся;
    неровная земля пусть станет гладкой,
    и бугристые места — ровными.

    Every valley shall be raised up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places a plain.

    И откроется слава Господня,
    и все люди вместе увидят ее.
    Потому что сказали это уста Господни.192

    And the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see [it] together: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

    — Кричи!
    Я спросил:
    — Что мне кричать?
    — Все люди193 — как трава,
    и вся их слава — как полевые цветы.

    The Word of the Lord Stands Forever

    A voice saith, Cry. And he saith, What shall I cry? -- All flesh is grass, and all the comeliness thereof as the flower of the field.

    Трава засыхает, вянут цветы,
    так как на них веет дыхание Господне.
    Воистину, народ — трава.

    The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, for the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.

    Трава засыхает, вянут цветы,
    но слово нашего Бога пребывает вовек.

    The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God abideth for ever.

    О вестник, несущий добрую весть Сиону,
    поднимись на высокую гору.
    О вестник, несущий добрую весть Иерусалиму,194
    мощно возвысь свой голос!
    Возвысь, не бойся;
    скажи городам Иудеи: «Вот Бог ваш!»

    Here is Your God!

    O Zion, that bringest glad tidings, get thee up into a high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest glad tidings, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

    Вот, Владыка Господь идет в могуществе,
    и мышца Его властвует.
    Вот, награда Его с Ним,
    и воздаяние Его перед Ним.

    Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come with might, and his arm shall rule for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompence before him.

    Он пасет Свое стадо, словно пастух:
    берет ягнят на руки,
    несет на груди,
    и заботливо ведет маток.195

    He will feed his flock like a shepherd: he will gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom; he will gently lead those that give suck.

    Кто измерил пригоршней воды
    или ладонью вымерил небеса?
    Кто вместил земную пыль в мерный сосуд
    или взвесил горы на весах
    и на весовых чашах холмы?

    Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out the heavens with [his] span, and grasped the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance, and the hills in scales?

    Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, and, [as] his counsellor, hath taught him?

    Кого Он просил Его просветить,
    кто учил Его правильному пути?
    Кто учил Его знанию,
    показал Ему путь постижения?

    With whom took he counsel, and [who] gave him intelligence, and instructed him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed him the way of understanding?

    Вот народы — как капля в ведре;
    они — что пылинка на весах;
    Он поднимает острова, как крупинку.

    Behold, the nations are esteemed as a drop of the bucket, and as the fine dust on the scales; behold, he taketh up the isles as an atom.

    Не достанет Ливана для жертвенных дров,
    и животных его для всесожжения.197

    And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.

    Все народы пред Ним — ничто;
    они для Него считаются
    меньше ничтожества и пустого места.

    All the nations are as nothing before him; they are esteemed by him less than a cipher, and vanity.

    Итак, кому уподобите Бога?
    Какое подобие для Него подберете?

    To whom then will ye liken God? and what likeness will ye compare unto him?
  • 19

    Идола? — Отливает его ремесленник,
    мастер его золотит
    и льет для него серебряные цепочки.

    The workman casteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains [for it].
  • 20

    А кто слишком беден для этого,
    выбирает дерево, что не гниет;
    ищет искусного ремесленника,
    чтобы поставить идола так, что не рухнет.

    He that is impoverished, so that he hath no offering, chooseth a tree that doth not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilled workman to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved.

    Разве вы не знаете?
    Разве вы не слышали?
    Разве не было сказано вам от начала?
    Разве вы не поняли еще от создания земли?

    do ye not know? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood the foundation of the earth?

    Он восседает над земным кругом,
    а обитатели земли пред Ним что кузнечики.
    Он распростирает небеса, как занавес,
    и раскидывает их, как шатер для жилья.

    [It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a gauze curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;

    Он обращает вождей в ничто,
    правителей земли — в пустое место.

    that bringeth the princes to nothing, that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

    Едва они были посажены,
    едва они были посеяны,
    едва корни в земле пустили,
    как дохнул Он на них — и они засохли,
    и вихрь уносит их, как солому.

    Scarcely are they planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely hath their stock taken root in the earth, but he also bloweth upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.

    «Кому уподобите вы Меня?
    Кто Мне ровня?» — говорит Святой.

    To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

    Поднимите глаза и взгляните на небо:
    Кто его сотворил?
    Тот, Кто по счету выводит Свое воинство
    и называет их всех по имени.
    Так как Он велик властью и могуч силой,
    они все в сборе.

    Lift up your eyes on high, and see! Who hath created these things, bringing out their host by number? He calleth them all by name; through the greatness of his might and strength of power, not one faileth.

    Как же ты, Иаков, можешь говорить,
    и ты, Израиль, жаловаться:
    «Путь мой сокрыт от Господа;
    мой Бог пренебрег моим делом»?

    Why sayest thou, Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and my right is passed away from my God?

    Разве ты не знаешь?
    Разве ты не слышал?
    Господь — есть Бог навеки,
    сотворивший края земли.
    Он не устанет и не утомится,
    разум Его непостижим.

    Dost thou not know, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searching of his understanding.

    Он дарует силу усталым,
    укрепляет изнемогших.

    He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.

    Даже юноши устанут и утомятся,
    молодые упадут от изнеможения;

    Even the youths shall faint and shall tire, and the young men shall stumble and fall;

    но надеющиеся на Господа
    наберутся новых сил.
    Они воспарят на крыльях, словно орлы,
    побегут — и не утомятся,
    пойдут — и не устанут.

    but they that wait upon Jehovah shall renew [their] strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not tire; they shall walk, and not faint.
