    The Song of Deborah and Barak

    Then sang Deborah and Barak, the son of Abinoam, on that day, saying,

    «Вожди повели Израиль,
    народ пошел добровольно —
    славьте Господа!

    For that leaders led in Israel, For that the people willingly offered themselves, Bless Jehovah!

    Слушайте, цари! Внимайте, правители!
    Господу буду петь,
    буду играть пред Господом, Богом Израиля.

    Hear, ye kings; give ear, ye princes, I, [even] I, will sing to Jehovah; I will hymn to Jehovah the God of Israel.

    Когда вышел Ты, Господи, из Сеира,27
    когда выступил Ты из земли Эдома,
    дрожала земля, и с неба лило —
    облака изливали воду.

    Jehovah, when thou wentest forth from Seir, When thou marchedst out of the fields of Edom, The earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, Yea, the clouds dropped water.

    Горы дрожали пред Господом,
    перед Тем, Кто с Синая,
    пред Господом, Богом Израиля.28

    The mountains quaked before the face of Jehovah, That Sinai, from before Jehovah the God of Israel.

    В дни Шамгара, сына Анафа,
    в дни Иаили пути опустели,
    и ходившие прежде дорогой прямой
    пускались в обход.

    In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, The roads were unused, and the travellers on highways went by crooked paths.

    Обезлюдели в Израиле села,
    обезлюдели, пока не явилась, не восстала я,29
    Девора, мать в Израиле.

    The villages ceased in Israel, Ceased until that I Deborah arose, That I arose a mother in Israel.

    Избрали новых богов —
    вот и война у ворот,
    и ни щита, ни копья
    не видно у сорока тысяч в Израиле.

    They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

    Сердце мое с вождями Израиля,
    с добровольцами из народа.
    Славьте Господа!

    My heart is toward the governors of Israel, who offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless Jehovah!

    Вы, кто ездит на белых ослицах,
    кто сидит на коврах,30
    кто ходит по дороге,
    пойте песнь!31

    Ye that ride on white she-asses, ye that sit on carpets, and ye that walk by the way, consider.

    И под голос лучников32 у колодцев
    идет разговор о Господних победах,
    о победах в Израиле Его народа.33
    И тогда Господень народ устремился к воротам.

    Because of the voice of those who divide [the spoil] in the midst of the places of drawing water; There they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah, His righteous acts toward his villages in Israel. Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.

    „Вставай, вставай, Девора!
    Вставай, вставай, песню пой!
    Поднимайся, Варак,
    уводи своих пленных, сын Авиноама!“

    Awake, awake, Deborah! awake, awake, utter a song! Arise, Barak, and lead captive thy captives, thou son of Abinoam!

    И тогда уцелевшие собрались к вельможам;
    Господень народ собрался ко мне против сильных.

    Then come down, thou, the remnant of nobles, [as his] people; Jehovah! come down with me in the midst of the mighty ones.
  • 14

    От Ефрема пришли укоренившиеся в земле Амалика,
    и следом за тобой, Вениамин, с твоим народом.
    От Махира пришли вожди,
    от Завулона — держащие жезл полководца.

    Out of Ephraim [came] those whose root was in Amalek; After thee was Benjamin among thy peoples. Out of Machir came down governors, And out of Zebulun they that handled the staff of the ruler.

    С Деворою шли князья Иссахара —
    да, остался Иссахар Вараку верен,
    и за ним они ринулись в долину.
    А в кланах Рувима большое колебание.

    And the princes in Issachar were with Deborah; And Issachar, like Barak; They were sent into the valley at his feet. In the divisions of Reuben there were great resolves of heart!

    Что же мешкал ты среди овчарен,
    как стада собирают свистом, слушал?
    Да, Рувима кланы в большом колебании.

    Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, To hear the bleating of the flocks? In the divisions of Reuben there were great deliberations of heart!

    Галаад прижился за Иорданом.
    Дан — зачем у кораблей он засиделся?
    Асир остался на побережье
    и живет у своих пристаней.

    Gilead abode beyond Jordan; And Dan, why did he remain in ships? Asher sat on the sea-shore, And abode in his creeks.

    А народ Завулона рисковал жизнью,
    и с ним Неффалим на высотах поля.

    Zebulun is a people [that] jeoparded their lives unto death, Naphtali also, on the high places of the field.

    Явились цари, сразились.
    Сразились цари Ханаана
    в Таанахе, у вод близ Мегиддо,
    да не взяли серебряных трофеев.

    Kings came, -- they fought; Then fought the kings of Canaan; At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; They took no spoil of silver.

    Звезды с небес сражались,
    с путей своих сражались с Сисарой.

    From heaven was the fight; The stars from their courses fought with Sisera.
  • 21

    Река Кишон прочь их унесла,
    древняя река, река Кишон.
    Вперед, душа! Будь сильна!

    The torrent of Kishon swept them away, That ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. My soul, thou hast trodden down strength!

    И грохотали коней копыта
    в галопе, в галопе его жеребцов.

    Then did the horse-hoofs clatter with the coursings, The coursings of their steeds.

    „Прокляните Мероз, — сказал Ангел Господень. —
    Жителей его прокляните страшно,
    ведь они не пришли на помощь Господу,
    на помощь Господу против сильных“.

    Curse Meroz, saith the Angel of Jehovah; Curse, curse the inhabitants thereof; For they came not to the help of Jehovah, To the help of Jehovah among the mighty.

    Благословенна средь женщин будь, Иаиль,
    кенея Хевера жена,
    благословенна средь женщин, живущих в шатрах.

    Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, Blessed above women in the tent!

    Просил он воды — подала молока,
    в величественной чаше, вельможи достойной,
    принесла ему сливки.

    He asked water, she gave milk; In the nobles' bowl she brought forth cream.
  • 26

    Руку свою протянула за колышком,
    правую — за молотком ремесленника.
    Поразила Сисару, голову ему разбила,
    раздробила, пронзила висок.

    She put her hand to the tent-pin, And her right hand to the workmen's hammer; And she smote Sisera, she struck through his head, Shattered and pierced through his temples.

    К ногам ее он склонился, упал, лежал.
    К ногам ее он склонился, упал,
    да, где склонился, там и упал — мертвым.

    Between her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: Between her feet he bowed, he fell; Where he bowed, there he fell, overcome.

    Мать Сисары из окна глядит,
    причитает из-за решетки оконной:
    „Что ж его колесницы так долго нет?
    Что же стук колесниц его медлит?“

    Them other of Sisera looketh out at the window, And crieth through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why tarry the trampings of his chariots?

    А мудрейшие из женщин придворных
    отвечают ей — да и сама все время
    твердит она себе:

    The wise amongst her ladies answer [her], Yea, she returneth answer to herself,

    „Не добычу ли берут они и делят:
    по девице на воина иль по две,
    пеструю одежду для Сисары,
    пеструю, расшитую одежду,
    богато расшитую одежду мне на плечи — всю эту добычу?“

    Have they not found, divided the booty, A damsel, two damsels, to each? A booty of dyed stuffs for Sisera, A booty of dyed stuffs of embroidery, Dyed stuff of double embroidery for the neck of a spoiler?

    Так да погибнут все враги Твои, Господи!
    А те, кто любит Тебя, да будут как солнце,
    когда оно поднимается во всей своей силе».


    И земля покоилась в мире сорок лет.

    So let all thine enemies perish, Jehovah! But let them that love him be as the rising of the sun in its might. And the land had rest forty years.
