Так! у серебра есть источная жила, и у золота место, где его плавят.
The Earth's Treasures
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
Железо получается из земли; из камня выплавляется медь.
Iron is taken out of the dust, and copper is molten out of the stone.
Человек полагает предел тьме и тщательно разыскивает камень во мраке и тени смертной.
[Man] putteth an end to the darkness, and exploreth to the utmost limit, the stones of darkness and of the shadow of death.
Вырывают рудокопный колодезь в местах, забытых ногою, спускаются вглубь, висят и зыблются вдали от людей.
He openeth a shaft far from the inhabitants [of the earth]: forgotten of the foot, they hang suspended; away below men they hover.
Земля, на которой вырастает хлеб, внутри изрыта как бы огнём.
As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as by fire;
Камни её — место сапфира, и в ней песчинки золота.
The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
Стези туда не знает хищная птица, и не видал её глаз коршуна;
It is a path no bird of prey knoweth, and the vulture's eye hath not seen it;
не попирали её скимны, и не ходил по ней шакал.
The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed over it.
На гранит налагает он руку свою, с корнем опрокидывает горы;
[Man] putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock, he overturneth the mountains by the root.
в скалах просекает каналы, и всё драгоценное видит глаз его;
He cutteth out channels in the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.
останавливает течение потоков и сокровенное выносит на свет.
He bindeth the streams that they drip not, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
Но где премудрость обретается? и где место разума?
Wisdom an Excellent Gift of God
But wisdom, where shall it be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Не знает человек цены её, и она не обретается на земле живых.
Man knoweth not the value thereof; and it is not found in the land of the living.
Бездна говорит: «не во мне она»; и море говорит: «не у меня».
The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me.
Не даётся она за золото и не приобретается она за вес серебра;
Choice gold cannot be given for it, nor silver be weighed for its price.
не оценивается она золотом Офирским, ни драгоценным ониксом, ни сапфиром;
It is not set in the balance with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, and the sapphire.
не равняется с нею золото и кристалл, и не выменяешь её на сосуды из чистого золота.
Gold and glass cannot be compared to it, nor vessels of fine gold be its exchange.
А о кораллах и жемчуге и упоминать нечего, и приобретение премудрости выше рубинов.
Corals and crystal are no more remembered; yea, the acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.
Не равняется с нею топаз Ефиопский; чистым золотом не оценивается она.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be compared to it, neither shall it be set in the balance with pure gold.
Откуда же исходит премудрость? и где место разума?
Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Сокрыта она от очей всего живущего и от птиц небесных утаена.
For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowl of the heavens.
Аваддон и смерть говорят: «ушами нашими слышали мы слух о ней».
Destruction and death say, We have heard its report with our ears.
Бог знает путь её, и Он ведает место её.
God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:
Ибо Он прозирает до концов земли и видит под всем небом.
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.
Когда Он ветру полагал вес и располагал воду по мере,
In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,
когда назначал устав дождю и путь для молнии громоносной,
In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:
тогда Он видел её и явил её, приготовил её и ещё испытал её
Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;
