    The Prophet’s Anguish and Hope

    I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.

    Он повёл меня и ввёл во тьму, а не во свет.

    He has led me and made me walk
    In darkness and not in light.
  • 3
    Так, Он обратился на меня и весь день обращает руку Свою;
  • 3
    Surely He has turned His hand against me
    Time and time again throughout the day.
  • 4
    измождил плоть мою и кожу мою, сокрушил кости мои;
  • 4
    He has aged my flesh and my skin,
    And broken my bones.
  • 5
    огородил меня и обложил горечью и тяготою;
  • 5
    He has besieged me
    And surrounded me with bitterness and [a]woe.

    посадил меня в тёмное место, как давно умерших;

    He has set me in dark places
    Like the dead of long ago.

    окружил меня стеною, чтобы я не вышел, отяготил оковы мои,

    He has hedged me in so that I cannot get out;
    He has made my chain heavy.

    и когда я взывал и вопиял, задерживал молитву мою;

    Even when I cry and shout,
    He shuts out my prayer.

    He has blocked my ways with hewn stone;
    He has made my paths crooked.

    Он стал для меня как бы медведь в засаде, как бы лев в скрытном месте;

    He has been to me a bear lying in wait,
    Like a lion in [b]ambush.

    извратил пути мои и растерзал меня, привёл меня в ничто;

    He has turned aside my ways and torn me in pieces;
    He has made me desolate.

    натянул лук Свой и поставил меня как бы целью для стрел;

    He has bent His bow
    And set me up as a target for the arrow.

    послал в почки мои стрелы из колчана Своего.

    He has caused the [c]arrows of His quiver
    To pierce my [d]loins.

    Я стал посмешищем для всего народа моего, вседневною песнью их.

    I have become the ridicule of all my people —
    Their taunting song all the day.

    Он пресытил меня горечью, напоил меня полынью.

    He has filled me with bitterness,
    He has made me drink wormwood.
  • 16
    Сокрушил камнями зубы мои, покрыл меня пеплом.

    He has also broken my teeth with gravel,
    And [e]covered me with ashes.

    И удалился мир от души моей; я забыл о благоденствии,

    You have moved my soul far from peace;
    I have forgotten [f]prosperity.

    и сказал я: погибла сила моя и надежда моя на Господа.

    And I said, “My strength and my hope
    Have perished from the Lord.”

    Помысли о моём страдании и бедствии моём, о полыни и жёлчи.

    Remember my affliction and roaming,
    The wormwood and the [g]gall.

    Твёрдо помнит это душа моя и падает во мне.
  • 20
    My soul still remembers
    And [h]sinks within me.
  • 21
    Вот что я отвечаю сердцу моему и потому уповаю:

    This I recall to my mind,
    Therefore I have hope.

    по милости Господа мы не исчезли, ибо милосердие Его не истощилось.

    Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
    Because His compassions fail not.

    Оно обновляется каждое утро; велика верность Твоя!

    They are new every morning;
    Great is Your faithfulness.

    Господь — часть моя, говорит душа моя, итак, буду надеяться на Него.

    “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “Therefore I hope in Him!”

    Благ Господь к надеющимся на Него, к душе, ищущей Его.

    The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
    To the soul who seeks Him.

    Благо тому, кто терпеливо ожидает спасения от Господа.

    It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
    For the salvation of the Lord.

    Благо человеку, когда он несёт иго в юности своей;
  • 27
    It is good for a man to bear
    The yoke in his youth.
  • 28
    сидит уединённо и молчит, ибо Он наложил его на него;
  • 28
    Let him sit alone and keep silent,
    Because God has laid it on him;
  • 29
    полагает уста свои в прах, помышляя: «может быть, ещё есть надежда»;

    Let him put his mouth in the dust —
    There may yet be hope.

    подставляет ланиту свою биющему его, пресыщается поношением,

    Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him,
    And be full of reproach.

    ибо не навек оставляет Господь.

    For the Lord will not cast off forever.
  • 32
    Но послал горе, и помилует по великой благости Своей.
  • 32
    Though He causes grief,
    Yet He will show compassion
    According to the multitude of His mercies.
  • 33
    Ибо Он не по изволению сердца Своего наказывает и огорчает сынов человеческих.

    For He does not afflict [i]willingly,
    Nor grieve the children of men.
  • 34
    Но, когда попирают ногами своими всех узников земли,
  • 34
    To crush under one’s feet
    All the prisoners of the earth,
  • 35
    когда неправедно судят человека пред лицом Всевышнего,
  • 35
    To turn aside the justice due a man
    Before the face of the Most High,
  • 36
    когда притесняют человека в деле его: разве не видит Господь?
  • 36
    Or subvert a man in his cause —
    The Lord does not approve.
  • 37
    Кто это говорит: «и то бывает, чему Господь не повелел быть»?

    Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,
    When the Lord has not commanded it?
  • 38
    Не от уст ли Всевышнего происходит бедствие и благополучие?
  • 38
    Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
    That woe and well-being proceed?
  • 39
    Зачем сетует человек живущий? всякий сетуй на грехи свои.
  • 39
    Why should a living man [j]complain,
    A man for the punishment of his sins?
  • 40
    Испытаем и исследуем пути свои, и обратимся к Господу.
  • 40
    Let us search out and examine our ways,
    And turn back to the Lord;
  • 41
    Вознесём сердце наше и руки к Богу, сущему на небесах:

    Let us lift our hearts and hands
    To God in heaven.

    мы отпали и упорствовали; Ты не пощадил.

    We have transgressed and rebelled;
    You have not pardoned.
  • 43
    Ты покрыл Себя гневом и преследовал нас, умерщвлял, не щадил;

    You have covered Yourself with anger
    And pursued us;
    You have slain and not pitied.

    Ты закрыл Себя облаком, чтобы не доходила молитва наша;

    You have covered Yourself with a cloud,
    That prayer should not pass through.

    сором и мерзостью Ты сделал нас среди народов.

    You have made us an offscouring and refuse
    In the midst of the peoples.

    Разинули на нас пасть свою все враги наши.

    All our enemies
    Have opened their mouths against us.

    Ужас и яма, опустошение и разорение — доля наша.

    Fear and a snare have come upon us,
    Desolation and destruction.

    Потоки вод изливает око моё о гибели дщери народа моего.

    My eyes overflow with rivers of water
    For the destruction of the daughter of my people.

    Око моё изливается и не перестаёт, ибо нет облегчения,

    My eyes flow and do not cease,
    Without interruption,
  • 50
    доколе не призрит и не увидит Господь с небес.

    Till the Lord from heaven
    Looks down and sees.

    Око моё опечаливает душу мою ради всех дщерей моего города.

    My eyes bring suffering to my soul
    Because of all the daughters of my city.

    Всячески усиливались уловить меня, как птичку, враги мои, без всякой причины;

    My enemies without cause
    Hunted me down like a bird.

    повергли жизнь мою в яму и закидали меня камнями.

    They [k]silenced my life in the pit
    And threw [l]stones at me.

    Воды поднялись до головы моей; я сказал: «погиб я».

    The waters flowed over my head;
    I said, “I am cut off!”

    Я призывал имя Твоё, Господи, из ямы глубокой.

    I called on Your name, O Lord,
    From the lowest pit.

    Ты слышал голос мой; не закрой уха Твоего от воздыхания моего, от вопля моего.

    You have heard my voice:
    “Do not hide Your ear
    From my sighing, from my cry for help.”

    Ты приближался, когда я взывал к Тебе, и говорил: «не бойся».
  • 57
    You drew near on the day I called on You,
    And said, “Do not fear!”

    Ты защищал, Господи, дело души моей; искуплял жизнь мою.
  • 58
    O Lord, You have pleaded the case for my soul;
    You have redeemed my life.

    Ты видишь, Господи, обиду мою; рассуди дело моё.

    O Lord, You have seen [m]how I am wronged;
    Judge my case.

    Ты видишь всю мстительность их, все замыслы их против меня.

    You have seen all their vengeance,
    All their schemes against me.

    Ты слышишь, Господи, ругательство их, все замыслы их против меня,

    You have heard their reproach, O Lord,
    All their schemes against me,
  • 62
    речи восстающих на меня и их ухищрения против меня всякий день.

    The lips of my enemies
    And their whispering against me all the day.

    Воззри, сидят ли они, встают ли, я для них — песнь.

    Look at their sitting down and their rising up;
    I am their taunting song.

    Воздай им, Господи, по делам рук их;
  • 64
    Repay them, O Lord,
    According to the work of their hands.

    пошли им помрачение сердца и проклятие Твоё на них;

    Give them [n]a veiled heart;
    Your curse be upon them!

    преследуй их, Господи, гневом, и истреби их из поднебесной.

    In Your anger,
    Pursue and destroy them
    From under the heavens of the Lord.
