The Temptation and Fall of Man

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Женщина ответила змею: "Мы можем есть плоды с деревьев в саду,

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;

но есть одно дерево, плоды которого нам нельзя есть. Бог сказал нам: "Вы не должны есть плоды с того дерева, что посередине сада, не должны даже дотрагиваться до того дерева, а то умрёте".

but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

Но змей сказал женщине: "Не умрёте.

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

Бог знает, что если вы съедите плод с того дерева, то узнаете о добре и зле, и тогда уподобитесь Ему!"

For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Женщина увидела, какое красивое это дерево, увидела, что плоды его хороши для еды, а особенно привлекало её то, что дерево сделает её мудрой. Она набрала плодов с дерева и стала есть. С женщиной был её муж, она дала ему часть плодов, и он съел их.

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was [a]pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

И тут словно глаза у них открылись: они увидели, что на них нет одежды, что они нагие. Тогда они набрали фиговых листьев, сшили их вместе и стали носить как одежду.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves [b]coverings.

Когда спала дневная жара, Господь Бог вышел походить по саду. Заслышав его, мужчина и женщина спрятались за деревьями,

And they heard the [c]sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the [d]cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

но Господь Бог позвал мужчину: "Где ты?"

Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

Мужчина ответил: "Я услышал, как Ты ходишь по саду, и испугался, потому что я наг, и спрятался".

So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

11

Господь Бог спросил мужчину: "Кто тебе сказал, что ты нагой? Не съел ли ты плода с того особого дерева? Я сказал тебе, чтобы ты не ел плодов с того дерева!"

And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

Мужчина ответил: "Женщина, которую Ты сотворил для меня, дала мне плоды с того дерева, и я съел их".

Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

13

Тогда Господь Бог сказал женщине: "Что же ты сделала?" Женщина ответила: "Змей перехитрил меня. Он обманул меня, и я поела плодов".

And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14

Тогда Господь Бог сказал змею: "Ты поступил очень плохо, и тебе самому придётся плохо. Тебе придётся хуже, чем любому другому животному: ты должен будешь всю свою жизнь ползать на животе и есть пыль.

So the Lord God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.

15

Я сделаю женщину и тебя врагами, и её дети будут врагами твоим детям. Ты ужалишь её ребенка в ногу, а он размозжит тебе голову".

And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”

16

И сказал Господь Бог женщине: "Я обреку тебя на муки во время беременности. Ты будешь рожать в муках и будешь вожделеть к своему мужу, а он будет господствовать над тобой".

To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be [e]for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”

17

И сказал Господь Бог мужчине: "Я запретил тебе есть плоды с того дерева, ты же послушался свою жену и съел их. Из-за тебя Я прокляну землю, и ты будешь тяжко трудиться всю свою жизнь ради пищи, которую родит земля.

Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
“Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.

18

Земля родит для тебя колючки и сорняки, и тебе придётся питаться дикими полевыми растениями.

Both thorns and thistles it shall [f]bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.

19

Ты будешь тяжко трудиться до самой смерти, в поте лица добывая себе пропитание, а потом вновь обратишься в пыль, из которой Я тебя сотворил".

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”

20

Адам назвал свою жену Евой, потому что Ева — мать всех живущих.

And Adam called his wife’s name Eve,[g] because she was the mother of all living.

21

Господь Бог сделал для Адама и его жены одежду из шкур животных и надел на них,

Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.

22

сказав: "Люди теперь подобны Нам: они знают о добре и зле. Как бы они не сорвали плоды с дерева жизни и не стали жить вечно".

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” —

23

Господь Бог изгнал Адама из райского сада, и тому пришлось пойти обрабатывать землю, из которой он был сделан.

therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.

24

Изгнав Адама из сада, Господь Бог поставил у входа в сад охрану — ангелов-херувимов и сверкающий огненный меч, который, вращаясь, преграждал путь к дереву жизни.

24

So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
