Вот имена народов, которых Господь оставил на этой земле, потому что Господь хотел испытать народ Израиля. Никто из израильтян, живущих в те времена, не сражался в войнах за ханаанские земли.

The Nations Remaining in the Land

Now these are the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them, that is, all who had not [a]known any of the wars in Canaan

2

И Господь не изгнал другие народы с израильской земли, чтобы народ Израиля, который не участвовал в этих войнах, учился воевать:

(this was only so that the generations of the children of Israel might be taught to know war, at least those who had not formerly known it),

пять правителей филистимских, все хананеи, все сидоняне и евеи, которые жили в горной местности Ливана, от горы Ваал-Ермона до Лебо-Емафа.

namely, five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

Господь оставил эти народы, чтобы искушать народ Израиля и смотреть, будут ли они повиноваться заповедям Господним, которые были даны их предкам через Моисея.

And they were left, that He might test Israel by them, to [b]know whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

Сыны Израилевы жили среди хананеев, хеттеев, аморреев, фарезеев, евеев и иевусеев.

Thus the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Они брали в жены их дочерей, отдавали своих дочерей в жены их сыновьям и поклонялись богам этих народов.

And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods.

Господь видел, что народ Израиля творит зло. Они забыли Господа, Бога своего, и служили Ваалам и Ашера.

Othniel

So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and [c]Asherahs.

Господь разгневался на Израиль и позволил Хусарсафему, царю Месопотамскому, победить народ Израиля. И правил царь Месопотамский над ними восемь лет.

Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.

Тогда сыны Израилевы стали молить Господа о помощи, и Господь послал к ним Гофониила, сына Кеназа, младшего брата Хелевова, и он спас народ Израиля.

When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

Дух Божий вселился в Гофониила, и он стал судьёй Израиля. Гофониил повёл народ Израиля на войну, и Господь помог ему одолеть Хусарсафема, царя Арамского.

The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.

И земля жила в мире сорок лет, пока не умер Гофониил, сын Кеназа.

So the land had rest for forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

Господь увидел, что народ Израиля снова творит зло, и дал силу Еглону, царю Моавитскому, чтобы он разбил народ Израиля.

Ehud

And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord strengthened Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord.

13

Еглон позвал с собой аммонитян и амаликитян, и они, объединившись, напали на Израиль, победили народ Израиля и изгнали его из города Пальм.

Then he gathered to himself the people of Ammon and Amalek, went and [d]defeated Israel, and took possession of the City of Palms.

14

Еглон, царь Моавитский, правил восемнадцать лет.

So the children of Israel served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

15

И снова народ стал молить Господа о помощи. И послал Господь левшу Аода, сына Геры из рода Иеминиева, спасти народ Израиля. Народ Израиля послал Аода отнести дань Еглону, царю Моавитскому.

But when the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. By him the children of Israel sent tribute to Eglon king of Moab.

16

Аод сделал себе обоюдоострый меч длиною в один локоть и привязал его под одеждой к правому бедру.

Now Ehud made himself a dagger (it was double-edged and a cubit in length) and fastened it under his clothes on his right thigh.

17

И пошёл Аод с данью к Еглону, царю Моавитскому. (Еглон был человек очень тучный. )

So he brought the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. (Now Eglon was a very fat man.)

18

Аод отдал деньги Еглону и от людей, которые несли эти деньги.

And when he had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people who had carried the tribute.

19

Аод уже собрался уходить, но, когда проходил мимо идолов города Галгала, повернулся и сказал: "Царь, я должен сказать тебе что-то по секрету". Царь сказал: "Тише!", и отослал из комнаты всех своих слуг.

But he himself turned back from the [e]stone images that were at Gilgal, and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.”
He said, “Keep silence!” And all who attended him went out from him.

20

Аод пошёл к Еглону, который сидел один в верхней комнате своих летних палат. Аод сказал: "У меня есть к тебе послание от Бога. " Царь встал с трона,

So Ehud came to him (now he was sitting upstairs in his cool private chamber). Then Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” So he arose from his seat.

21

а Аод левой рукой достал меч, привязанный к правому бедру, и вонзил его царю в живот.

21

Then Ehud reached with his left hand, took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.

22

Меч вошёл так глубоко, что не было видно даже рукояти, и внутренности царя вывалились наружу. Жир царя полностью прикрыл меч, и Аод оставил его там.

22

Even the [f]hilt went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the dagger out of his belly; and his entrails came out.

Аод вышел из комнаты и запер за собой двери.

Then Ehud went out through the porch and shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.

24

Слуги вернулись сразу же после его ухода. Они увидели, что дверь заперта, и сказали: "Должно быть, царь закрылся, чтобы оправиться".

When he had gone out, [g]Eglon’s servants came to look, and to their surprise, the doors of the upper room were locked. So they said, “He is probably attending[h] to his needs in the cool chamber.”

25

Они долго ждали и наконец встревожились. Они взяли ключ, открыли дверь и, войдя в комнату, увидели мёртвого царя, лежащего на полу.

So they waited till they were embarrassed, and still he had not opened the doors of the upper room. Therefore they took the key and opened them. And there was their master, fallen dead on the floor.

Пока слуги ждали царя, у Аода было время скрыться. Он прошёл мимо идолов и отправился в место, которое называлось Сеираф.

But Ehud had escaped while they delayed, and passed beyond the [i]stone images and escaped to Seirah.

Придя в Сеираф, он вострубил в горной местности Ефрема. Услышав звуки трубы, народ Израиля собрался в Сеирафе и спустился с гор во главе с Аодом.

And it happened, when he arrived, that he blew the trumpet in the mountains of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mountains; and [j]he led them.

28

Аод сказал им: "Идите за мной! Господь помог нам победить врагов наших, моавитян". И народ пошёл за Аодом. Они спустились с ним и захватили переправу через реку Иордан к земле Моавитской, и не давали никому переходить через неё.

Then he said to them, “Follow me, for the Lord has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” So they went down after him, seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, and did not allow anyone to cross over.

29

Они убили около десяти тысяч здоровых и сильных моавитян, и никто из них не спасся.

29

And at that time they killed about ten thousand men of Moab, all stout men of valor; not a man escaped.

30

Так в тот день народ Израиля покорил моавитян. И земля после этого жила мирно восемьдесят лет.

So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.

31

После того, как Аод спас народ Израиля, ещё один человек спас Израиль. Это был Самегар, сын Цнафов. Самегар воловьим рожном побил шестьсот человек филистимлян.

Shamgar

After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad; and he also delivered Israel.
