И сказал Господь Самуилу: "Сколько будешь ты печалиться о Сауле? Ты жалеешь о нём даже после того, как Я сказал тебе, что отвергаю Саула от царствования над Израилем! Наполни рог свой елеем и иди в Вифлеем. Я посылаю тебя к человеку по имени Иессей, который живёт в Вифлееме. Я выбрал новым царём одного из его сыновей".

Samuel Anoints David as King

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

Но Самуил ответил: "Если я пойду, Саул услышит об этом и попытается убить меня". Господь сказал: "Возьми с собой молодого телёнка и скажи, что ты пришёл принести жертву Господу.

And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

Пригласи Иессея к жертвоприношению. Затем Я укажу тебе, что делать. И ты помажешь того, кого Я укажу тебе".

And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

Самуил сделал то, что сказал ему Господь. Когда он пришёл в Вифлеем, старейшины города с трепетом вышли навстречу Самуилу и спросили: "С миром ли ты пришёл?"

And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

Самуил ответил: "Да, я пришёл с миром, чтобы принести жертву Господу. Освятитесь и идите со мной к жертвоприношению". Самуил освятил Иессея и его сыновей и пригласил их к жертвоприношению.

And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

Когда пришёл Иессей со своими сыновьями, Самуил увидел Елиава и подумал: "Наверное, это и есть тот, кого избрал Господь!"

And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is before him.

Но Господь сказал Самуилу: "Елиав высок и красив, но не смотри на него. Бог смотрит не так, как смотрит человек. Люди смотрят на лицо, а Господь смотрит на сердце. Елиав — не тот человек".

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Затем Иессей позвал второго сына, Аминадава. Аминадав подошёл к Самуилу, но Самуил сказал: "Нет, это не тот, кого избрал Господь".

Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

Тогда Иессей велел Самму подойти к Самуилу, но Самуил сказал: "Нет, и этого не избрал Господь".

Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

Так Иессей подводил к Самуилу семерых сыновей своих, но Самуил сказал: "Никого из них не избрал Господь".

Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

Затем он спросил Иессея: "Все ли сыновья твои здесь?" Иессей ответил, что у него есть ещё младший сын, но он пасёт овец. Самуил сказал Иессею: "Пошли за ним и приведи его сюда. Мы не сядем есть, пока он не придёт".

And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

И Иессей послал за младшим сыном. Это был очень красивый юноша, с приятным лицом и волосами рыжевато-каштанового цвета. И сказал Господь Самуилу: "Встань и помажь его, ибо это он".

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

Самуил взял рог с елеем и помазал младшего сына Иессея среди братьев его. И с того дня Дух Господний сошёл на Давида с великой силой. Самуил же вернулся домой в Раму.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

14

Дух Господний покинул Саула. И Господь послал Саулу злого духа, который принёс ему много бед.

David Serves Saul

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

15

Слуги Саула говорили ему: "Злой дух от Бога тревожит тебя.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

16

Прикажи нам, и мы найдём человека, который умеет играть на гуслях. И когда найдёт на тебя злой дух от Бога, человек этот будет играть для тебя, и тебе станет легче от его музыки".

16

Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

17

Саул сказал слугам: "Найдите человека, который хорошо играет, и приведите его ко мне".

And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

18

Один из слуг сказал: "Я видел у Иессея, который живёт в Вифлееме, сына. Он умеет играть на гуслях. Он храбр и воинственен, умён и красив собой. И Господь с ним".

18

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

19

Тогда Саул отправил послов к Иессею и сказал: "Пошли ко мне Давида, сына твоего, который пасёт овец".

Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

20

Иессей послал подарки Саулу. Он взял осла, немного хлеба, мех с вином и молодого козлёнка, дал всё это Давиду и отправил его к Саулу.

And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

21

Давид пришёл к Саулу и предстал перед ним. Саул очень полюбил его, и Давид стал его оруженосцем.

And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

22

И послал Саул сказать Иессею: "Пусть Давид останется и служит мне, потому что он мне очень понравился".

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.

23

И каждый раз, когда злой дух от Бога находил на Саула, Давид брал свои гусли и играл на них. И злой дух покидал Саула, и ему становилось лучше.

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
