Знову зауважив я під сонцем, що не все швидкі бігають, хоробрі воюють, мудрі хліб їдять, розумні багатіють, а вчені осягають ласку, і що час недолі всіх їх спіткає.

І звернувсь я й добачив під сонцем, що не швидким допадаєсь нагорода за побіг; не хоробрим — побіда; не мудрим — хлїб; не розумним — багацтво, й не тямущим — ласка, тільки час і случай у всїм. -
Зно́ву я бачив під сонцем, що біг не у ско́рих, і бій не в хоро́брих, а хліб не в премудрих, і не в розумних багатство, ні ласка — у знавців, — а від ча́су й наго́ди залежні вони!

Я повернувся і побачив під сонцем, що біг — не для прудких, бій — не для сильних, хліб — не для мудрих, багатство — не для розумних і милість — не для тих, що пізнають, бо їх усіх зустріне час і випадок.

И обратился я, и видел под солнцем, что не проворным достаётся успешный бег, не храбрым — победа, не мудрым — хлеб, и не у разумных — богатство, и не искусным — благорасположение, но время и случай для всех их.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all. -

не обязательно в беге побеждают быстрые,
а в битве — храбрые,
не всегда у мудрых есть хлеб,
а у разумных — богатство,
как не всегда образованные пользуются благосклонностью,
потому что все зависит от времени и случая. -
I returned and saw under the sun that —
The race is not to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
Nor bread to the wise,
Nor riches to men of understanding,
Nor favor to men of skill;
But time and chance happen to them all. -

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.
