2 Peter 1

Симон Петро, слуга й апостол Ісуса Христа, тим, які через справедливість Бога нашого і Спаса Ісуса Христа отримали, рівноцінну нашій, віру:

Greetings from Peter

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

благодать вам і мир хай збільшується через спізнання Бога й Ісуса, Господа нашого!

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

Бо його Божа сила дала нам усе до життя та побожности, завдяки спізнанню того, хто нас покликав своєю славою та силою!

Make Your Calling Sure

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Завдяки їм нам були даровані цінні й превеликі обітниці, щоб ними ви стали учасниками Божої природи, уникнувши зіпсуття, яке пожадливістю розповсюднилось у світі.

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

І тому саме докладіть усі ваші старання і зрощуйте у вашій вірі чесноту, а в чесноті пізнання,

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

у пізнанні — стриманість, у стриманості терпеливість, у терпеливості побожність,

And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

у побожності братолюбство, в братолюбстві загальну любов.

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Бо якщо це буде у вас, і буде у вас його багато, то воно не залишить вас без діла й без плоду для глибшого пізнання Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

А хто цього не має, той сліпий, короткозорий; він забув про очищення від своїх колишніх гріхів.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Тому, брати, тим більше старайтесь утвердити ваше покликання і вибрання; бо те робивши, ніколи не спотикнетеся.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Таким бо чином широко буде вам відкритий вхід у вічне Царство Господа нашого і Спаса Ісуса Христа.

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Ось чому я повсякчас дбатиму, щоб пригадувати вам ці речі, хоч ви їх знаєте й утверджені в теперішній правді.

Remember These Things

Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Вважаю за справедливе, доки я в цім тілі, розбуджувати вас цими попередженнями,

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

знаючи, що незабаром треба буде мені покинути тіло моє, як і Господь наш Ісус Христос мені це об'явив.

Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

Буду, однак, намагатися, щоб ви завжди, навіть і по моїм відході, тримали в пам'яті ці речі.

Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

Не за байками бо, хитро вигаданими, йдучи, об'явили ми вам потугу й прихід Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, але бувши наочними свідками його величі.

We were Eyewitnesses

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Бо він прийняв від Бога Отця честь і славу, коли до нього прийшов такий голос від величної слави: «Це мій син любий, якого я вподобав.»

For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

І цей голос ми чули, як сходив з неба, коли ми були з ним на святій горі.

And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

І маємо ще сильніше пророче слово. Ви добре робите, вважаючи на нього як на світильник, який світить у темнім місці, аж поки почне розвиднятись, і рання зоря зійде в серцях ваших.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

А насамперед знаєте, що ніяке в Письмі пророцтво не припускає особистого тлумачення.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Бо ніколи пророцтво не було проголошене з волі людини, лише, ведені Святим Духом, промовляли святі люди від Бога.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
