Та філістимлянські князі обурилися на нього й сказали йому: «Відішли назад цього чоловіка! Нехай повертається на місце, що ти йому призначив на осідок, і не йде з нами на війну, щоб під час битви не обернувся проти нас. Чим би йому примиритись із своїм паном, як не головами цих людей?

Та недовольні були на його за се Филистійські князї і вимагали від його: Відошли сього чоловіка назад; нехай вертає в свою домівку, що назначив єси йому, і не йде з нами воювати, щоб на войнї та не зробився нашим зрадником. Чим би йому запобігти знов ласки у пана свого, як не головами сих (наших) людей? -
І гнівалися на нього филистимські князі́. І сказали йому филистимські князі: „Заверни того́ чоловіка, і нехай він ве́рнеться до свого місця, де ти призна́чив йому, і нехай він не йде з нами на війну, і не стане нам противником на війні. І чим він може подо́батися своєму панові? Хіба головами цих людей?

І засмутилися на нього вожді филистимців, і кажуть йому: Поверни мужа до його місця, куди ти його там наставив, і хай не йде з нами на війну, і хай не викликає заколоту в таборі! І щоб якось він не перейшов до свого володаря. Хіба він не на чолі тих мужів?

И вознегодовали на него князья Филистимские, и сказали ему князья Филистимские: отпусти ты этого человека, пусть он сидит в своём месте, которое ты ему назначил, чтоб он не шёл с нами на войну и не сделался противником нашим на войне. Чем он может умилостивить господина своего, как не головами сих мужей?

And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?

He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? -
