Справдї так! Тілько ви одні люде, і з вами вмре разом і мудрість!
No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
Але ж і в мене є серце, як у вас, не стою я позаду; та й хто ж не знає сього самого?
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
Посьміхом другові мойму стався я, що до Бога кликав і Бог одвічав менї; посьміхом — чоловік справедливий і невинний!
I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
Оттак, по думцї того, що сидить собі спокійно, нїзащо є лучиво, призначене тим, що їх ноги потикаються.
He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
За те спокійні й безпечні домівки в грабителїв, роздратовуючих Бога, бо вони Бога, неначе в руках своїх носять!
The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
І справдї: спитай у зьвірят, а вони навчать тебе, — в птаства під небом, а воно з'ясує тобі;
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
Або поговори з землею, а вона повчить тебе, та й риби в морі скажуть тобі:
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
Хто з усього того не взнає, що рука Господня сотворила се?
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
В його руцї дух всього живучого й душа кожного людського тїла.
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
Чи ж не ухо розбірає слова, й чи не язик доходить смаку страви?
Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?
Так і в старцїв мудрість, а в довголїтників розум.
With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
У него ж (Бога) премудрість і міць; в його рада й розум.
With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
Що він розорить, того вже нїхто не збудує; кого він зачинить, нїхто йому не відомкне.
Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
Задержить води, — все повисихає, пустить їх, — розбурять землю.
Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
У його сила й премудрість, перед ним той, хто зблудив, і той, хто звів із дороги.
With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
Він приводить порадників до нерозваги, а суддїв до дурноти.
He leadeth counsellers away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
Здіймає пояс із царів, і оперізує верівкою стан їх;
He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
Уймає князям їх почестї, й повалює хоробрих;
He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
Уймає проречистим язик, і в старцїв мутить розум;
He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.
Окриває стидом людей значніх, і безсилить потужних;
He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.
Виявляє, що глибоко крилось у темряві, й виводить на сьвітло, що в тїнї смертній;
He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
Множить народи й вигублює їх; розсїває народи, й збірає їх докупи.
He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.
Віднімає розум у голов народів землї й пускає їх блудом у пустинї, де нема шляху;
He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
