Піднялись вони високо, — та ось і нема їх; падають і вмірають, як кожний на сьвітї, й неначе колоссє, стинаються.

Вони ледь-ледь піднесуться, — і вже в'януть,
немов зірвана мальвія,
немов головки колосків зів'ялих. -
піді́ймуться трохи — й не має вже їх, бо понижені. Як усе, вони гинуть, — і зрі́зуються, немов та колоско́ва голо́вка.
