The Hurtful Tongue
{To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Hear, O God, my voice in my plaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy:

Захисти мене від тайних змовин злочинників, від збіговиска тих, що творять беззаконнє!
Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, from the tumultuous crowd of the workers of iniquity,
Котрі вигострили, як меча, язик свій, приготовили, як стрілу, гірке слово.
Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword, [and] have aimed their arrow, a bitter word;
Щоб із закутка стріляти на безвинного; нечайно стріляють на него, і не бояться.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
Додають собі охоти до злого; радяться, як тайно заставити сїла; вони кажуть: Хто бачити ме їх?
They encourage themselves in an evil matter, they concert to hide snares; they say, Who will see them?
Видумують лиха: Ми приготовили, що задумали; заховали тайну глибоко в серцї.
They devise iniquities: We have it ready, the plan is diligently sought out. And each one's inward [thought] and heart is deep.
Але ж Бог стрілить на них; нараз — стріла, і бачать вони рани свої.
But God will shoot an arrow at them: suddenly are they wounded;
І язик їх зробить заколот між ними; хто погляне на них, похитає головою.
By their own tongue they are made to fall over one another: all that see them shall flee away.
І побояться люде, звістять про дїла Божі, пізнають дїло рук його.
And all men shall fear, and shall declare God's doing; and they shall wisely consider his work.
