Коли край одступить від закону, тодї в йому много старших, а з одним розумним і тямущим мужом — він довговічен.
By the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; but by a man of understanding [and] of knowledge, [its] stability is prolonged.
Убогий чоловік, що вбогих оббирає, — се ливень проливний, що хлїб на нивах змиває.
A poor man who oppresseth the helpless is a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
Відступники від закону безбожних вихваляють, а ті що певнять закон, — гнїв на них мають.
They that forsake the law praise the wicked; but such as keep the law contend with them.
Ледачі люде не розуміють правди; хто вірен Господу, такий на все розумен.
Evil men understand not judgment; but they that seek Jehovah understand everything.
Лучший той злиденник, що непорочен ходить, нїж багатир, що кривими путьми ступає.
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse, double in ways, though he be rich.
Додержуєш закон, — розумний син ти в батька, з ледачими дружиш, — отця твого соромиш.
Whoso observeth the law is a son that hath understanding; but he that is a companion of profligates bringeth shame to his father.
Хто маєтки свої намножує лихвами, збірає про того, хто помагає вбогим.
He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance gathereth it for him that is gracious to the poor.
Хто ухо відхиляє, щоб не слухать закону, того й молитва — хиба лиш гидота.
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
Хто праведних звів на беззаконну стежку, сам упаде в свою яму, а невинним таки добре буде.
Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, shall himself fall into his own pit; but the perfect shall inherit good.
Чоловік багатий — мудрий в очах своїх, та злиденник розумний його осоромить.
A rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.
Як праведні веселяться, то й велика радість, як же в гору ростуть безбожні, ховаються люде.
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men conceal themselves.
Хто прикриває гріхи свої, не зазнає щастя, а хто признається й їх покине, той ласки доступить.
He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall obtain mercy.
Щасливий чоловік, що все в страсї ходить; хто ж серце запече, у біду попаде.
Happy is the man that feareth always; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into evil.
Як лев рикаючий й ведмідь голодний, так пан безбожний убогій людинї.
A roaring lion, and a ranging bear, is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
Нерозумний володїтель тїснить людей многих, хто ж користї не любить, — життє продовжає.
The prince void of intelligence is also a great oppressor: he that hateth covetousness shall prolong [his] days.
Чоловік, що привинивсь проливом людської крови, — хоч би втїкав і в могилу, нїхто його не здержить.
A man laden with the blood of [any] person, fleeth to the pit: let no man stay him.
Хто ходить в невинностї, не дознає шкоди, хто ж ступає путьми кривими, — на одній з них впаде.
Whoso walketh in integrity shall be saved; but he that is perverted in [his] double ways, shall fall in one [of them].
Хто паше свою землю, мати ме що їсти, хто ж любуєсь у неробстві, глодати ме злиднї.
He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless shall have poverty enough.
Вірний чоловік — богатий на спасибі, хто ж рад борзо збогатитись, той не уйде кари.
A faithful man aboundeth with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
Не добре, в судї вважати на особу; такий чоловік й за окраєць хлїба одступить від правди.
To have respect of persons is not good; but for a piece of bread will a man transgress.
Завидливий наздогін біжить за багацтвом, і не в догад йому, що здогонить злиднї.
He that hath an evil eye hasteth after wealth, and knoweth not that poverty shall come upon him.
Хто другому дорікає, здобуде з часом більше ласки, як той, що лестить язиком.
He that rebuketh a man shall afterwards find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
Хто в батька-матері вкраде, та й каже: "се не гріх", — той товариш рабівника.
Whoso robbeth his father and his mother, and saith, It is no transgression, the same is the companion of a destroyer.
Надутий розпалює сварку, хто ж надїєсь на Господа, — добро йому буде.
He that is puffed up in soul exciteth contention; but he that relieth upon Jehovah shall be made fat.
Хто лиш на себе вповає, той безумен, а хто ходить у мудростї — спасеться від злого.
He that confideth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
Хто вбогому дає, не знати ме нужди, хто ж одвертає очі свої од його, — того проклинають.
He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that withdraweth his eyes shall have many a curse.
