    От що дав менї Господь Бог у видиві побачити: Ось він натворив сарани тодї, як почала лїтня трава виростати. Се була трава по царській косовицї.

    Vision of the Locusts

    Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the [a]beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings.

    І як вона повиїдала зелену траву на землї, благав я: Господи Боже, змилосердись! Як устояти Яковові? він же й так малолюден.

    And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:
    “O Lord God, forgive, I pray!
    Oh,[b] that Jacob may stand,
    For he is small!”

    І змилосердився Господь у тому, та й сказав Господь: Не станеться.

    So the Lord relented concerning this.
    “It shall not be,” said the Lord.

    От що дав менї Господь Бог у видиві побачити: Ось, Господь Бог визвав задля суду огонь; і пожер він велику пропасть та й пожер велику часть землї.

    Vision of the Fire

    Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called [c]for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the [d]territory.

    І благав я: Господи Боже, з'упини! Як бо встоїть Яков? він же й так малолюден.

    Then I said:
    “O Lord God, cease, I pray!
    Oh, that Jacob may stand,
    For he is small!”

    І пожалував Господь: і се не станеться, сказав Господь Бог.

    So the Lord relented concerning this.
    “This also shall not be,” said the Lord God.

    От що ще дав менї побачити Господь: Стояв Господь на мурі, мурованому по шнуру, з оловяною ваговиною й держав у руцї ваговину оловяну.

    Vision of the Plumb Line

    Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand.

    І промовив до мене Господь: Що ти бачиш, Амосе? Я відказав: Оловяну ваговину. І каже Господь: Ось, я положу оловяну ваговину серед мого люду, Ізраїля; не буду вже терпіти йому.

    And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
    And I said, “A plumb line.”
    Then the Lord said:
    “Behold, I am setting a plumb line
    In the midst of My people Israel;
    I will not pass by them anymore.

    Опустошені будуть висоти в Ізаака, й повалені божницї в Ізраїля, а проти Еробоамового дому встану з мечем.

    The [e]high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
    And the [f]sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
    I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

    І послав Амасія, Бетелський сьвященник до Еробоама, царя Ізраїлського, сказати: Амос будить ворохобню проти тебе серед царства Ізраїлського; країна не може вже терпіти слів його;

    Amaziah’s Complaint

    Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to [g]bear all his words.

    Ось бо, як говорить Амос: Від меча вмре Еробоам, а Ізраїля певно займуть у неволю з його землї.
  • 11
    For thus Amos has said:
    ‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
    And Israel shall surely be led away captive
    From their own land.’ ”

    І сказав Амасія Амосові: Видовидцю! Йди, забирайся в Юдину землю; там їж собі хлїб та й пророкуй там;

    Then Amaziah said to Amos:
    “Go, you seer!
    Flee to the land of Judah.
    There eat bread,
    And there prophesy.

    А в Бетелї перестань пророкувати: тут бо царська сьвятиня і царева столиця.

    But never again prophesy at Bethel,
    For it is the king’s [h]sanctuary,
    And it is the royal [i]residence.”

    І відказав Амос, та й сказав Амасії: Я нї пророк анї син пророчий; я пастух та й збірав дикі фиґи (сикомори);

    Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:
    “I was no prophet,
    Nor was I a son of a prophet,
    But I was a sheepbreeder
    And a tender of sycamore fruit.

    Та Господь взяв мене від овець, і сказав менї Господь: Ійди, пророкуй серед мого народу, серед Ізраїля.

    Then the Lord took me [j]as I followed the flock,
    And the Lord said to me,
    ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’
  • 16
    А тепер почуй і ти слово Господнє. Ти говориш: Не пророкуй на Ізраїля та й на Ізаака не виповідай нїяких речей.

    Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord:
    You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
    And do not [k]spout against the house of Isaac.’

    За се ж ось що говорить Господь: Жінка твоя тут у містї буде обезчещена, сини й дочки твої од меча поляжуть; поле твоє буде за шнуром розпайоване, ти помреш у землї нечистій, та й Ізраїль напевно буде виведений із землї своєї.

    “Therefore thus says the Lord:
    ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
    Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
    Your land shall be divided by survey line;
    You shall die in a defiled land;
    And Israel shall surely be led away captive
    From his own land.’ ”
