Greeting

Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are [a]sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Дякую Богу моєму всякого часу за вас про благодать Божу, дану вам в Христї Ісусї,

Spiritual Gifts at Corinth

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,

тим, що у всьому ви збагатились ним у всякім слові і всякім знанню,

that you were enriched in everything by Him in all [b]utterance and all knowledge,

яко ж сьвідченнє Христове утверджено в вас,

even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed [c]in you,

так що ви не маєте недостатку нї в однім даруванню, дожидаючись одкриття Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,

so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

котрий і утвердить вас до кінця, щоб ви були невинуваті в день Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.

who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Вірен бо Бог, через котрого покликані ви в общеннє Сина Його, Ісуса Христа, Господа нашого.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Благаю ж вас, браттє, імям Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, щоб те саме говорили ви всї, і щоб не було між вами роздїлення, а щоб були з'єднані в одному розумінню і в одній мислї.

Sectarianism Is Sin

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [d]speak the same thing, and that there be no [e]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Звіщено бо менї про вас, браттє моє, від Хлоїних, що між вами єсть незгодини.

For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are [f]contentions among you.

12

Кажу ж про те, що кожен з вас говорить: Я Павлів; а я Аполосів; а я Кифин; а я Христів.

Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.”

Хиба подїливсь Христос? хиба Павла розпято за вас? або в імя Павлове хрестились ви?

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Дякую Богові, що я нїкого з вас не охрестив, тільки Криспа та Гая,

I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

15

щоб хто не сказав, що в імя моє я охрестив.

15

lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

16

Хрестив же я й Стефанів дім; більш не знаю, чи кого другого хрестив.

Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other.

17

Не послав бо мене Христос хрестити, а благовістити, не в премудрости слова, щоб не опустїв хрест Христів.

17

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

18

Слово бо про хрест погибаючим дурощі, нам же, що спасаємось, сила Божа.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God

For the [g]message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

19

Писано бо: Погублю премудрість премудрих, і розум розумних відкину.

19

For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

20

Де мудрець? де письменник? де дослїджуватель віку сього? Чи не обернув Бог премудрість сьвіта сього в дурощі?

20

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the [h]disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21

Коли бо у премудростї Божій не пізнав сьвіт Бога премудростю, то зволив Бог дурощами проповідї спасти віруючих.

21

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

22

Коли і Жиди ознак допевняють ся, і Греки премудростї шукають,

22

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

23

ми проповідуємо Христа розпятого, Жидам поблазнь, Грекам же дурощі,

23

but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a [i]stumbling block and to the [j]Greeks foolishness,

24

самим же покликаним, і Жидам і Грекам, Божу силу й Божу премудрість:

24

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25

тим що немудре Боже мудріще від людей, а неміцне Боже кріпше людей.

25

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26

Спогляньте бо на покликаннє ваше, браттє, що небагато (між вами) премудрих по тїлу, небагато сильних, небагато благородних;

26

Glory Only in the Lord

For [k]you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many [l]noble, are called.

27

нї, немудре сьвіта вибрав Бог, щоб осоромити премудрих, і безсильне сьвіта вибрав Бог, щоб осоромити потужне,

27

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

28

і незначне сьвіту і погорджене вибрав Бог, і те чого нема, щоб те, що є, в нїщо обернути,

28

and the [m]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

29

щоб не величалось нїяке тїло перед Ним.

29

that no flesh should glory in His presence.

30

З Него ж і ви в Христї Ісусї, що став ся нам премудростю від Бога, і праведностю, і освяченнєм, і викупленнєм,

30

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption —

31

щоб, яко ж писано: Хто хвалить ся, в Господї хвалив ся.

31

that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”
