І були скі́нчені небо й земля, і все во́їнство їхнє.

The Seventh Day, God Rests

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

І скінчив Бог дня сьомого працю Свою, яку Він чинив. І Він відпочив у дні сьомім від усієї праці Своєї, яку був чинив.

And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

І поблагословив Бог день сьомий, і його освятив, бо в нім відпочив Він від усієї праці Своєї, яку, чинячи, Бог був створив.

So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Це ось походження неба й землі, коли створено їх, у дні, як Господь Бог створив небо і землю.

The Creation of Man and Woman

These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

І не було на землі жодної польової рослини, і жодна ярина польова не росла, бо на землю дощу Госпо́дь Бог не давав, і не було людини, щоб порати землю.

When no bush of the fielda was yet in the landb and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up — for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,

І пара з землі підіймалась, і напувала всю землю.

and a mistc was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground —

7

І створив Господь Бог люди́ну з пороху зе́много. І дихання життя вдихнув у ніздрі її, — і стала люди́на живою душею.

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

8

І насадив Господь Бог рай ув Едені на сході, і там осадив людину, що її Він створив.

And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9

І зростив Господь Бог із землі кожне дерево, принадне на вигляд і на їжу смачне, і дерево життя посеред раю, і дерево пізна́ння добра і зла.

And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

І річка з Едену виходить, щоб поїти рай. І звідти розділюється і стає чотирма́ початками.

A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers.

Імення одному Пішон, — оточує він усю землю Хавіла, де є золото.

The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12

А золото тієї землі добре; там бделій і камінь онікс.

And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there.

Ім'я́ ж другої річки Ґіхон, — вона оточує ввесь край Етіопії.

The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush.

А ім'я річки третьої — Тигр, — вона протікає на сході Ашшуру. А річка четверта — вона Ефрат.

And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15

І взяв Господь Бог людину, і в еденському ра́ї вмістив був її, щоб порала його та його доглядала.

15

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

16

І наказав Господь Бог Адамові, кажучи: „Із кожного дерева в раю́ ти можеш їсти.

16

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,

17

Але з дерева знання́ добра й зла — не їж від нього, бо в день їди́ твоєї від нього ти напевно помреш!“

17

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eatd of it you shall surely die.”

18

І сказав Господь Бог: „Не добре, щоб бути чоловіку самотнім. Створю йому поміч, подібну до нього“.

18

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit fore him.”

19

І вчинив Господь Бог із землі всю польову звірину́, і все птаство небесне, і до Адама привів, щоб побачити, як він їх кликатиме. А все, як покличе Адам до них, до живої душі — воно ймення йому.

Now out of the ground the Lord God had formedf every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

20

І назвав Ада́м імена всій худобі, і птаству небесному, і всій польовій звірині. Але Адамові помочі Він не знайшов, щоб подібна до нього була.

20

The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adamg there was not found a helper fit for him.

21

І вчинив Господь Бог, що на Адама спав міцний сон, — і заснув він. І Він узяв одне з ребер його, і тілом закрив його місце.

21

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.

22

І перетворив Господь Бог те ребро, що взяв із Адама, на жінку, і привів її до Адама.

And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he madeh into a woman and brought her to the man.

23

І промовив Адам: „Оце́ тепе́р вона — кість від костей моїх, і тіло від тіла мого. Вона жінкою буде зватися, бо взята вона з чоловіка.

23

Then the man said,
“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”i

24

Покине тому чоловік свого батька та матір свою, та й пристане до жінки своєї, — і стануть вони одним тілом“.

24

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

25

І були вони на́гі обоє, Адам та жінка його, і вони не соро́мились.

25

And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
