І посвоя́чився Соломон із фараоном, єгипетським царем, і взяв фараонову дочку́, і ввів її до Давидового Міста, ще доки він не закінчи́в будувати свого дому й храму Господнього, та муру навколо Єрусалиму.
Та народ прино́сив жертви на па́гірках, бо не був ще збудований дім для Господнього Імени аж до тих днів.
Meanwhile the people sacrificed at the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the Lord until those days.
І полюбив Соломон Господа, щоб ходити постановами свого батька Давида, тільки й він прино́сив жертви та кадив на па́гірках.
And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places.
І пішов був цар до Ґів'ону, щоб прино́сити там жертви, бо то найбільший па́гірок. Тисячу цілопа́лень приніс Соломон на тому же́ртівникові.
Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
У Ґів'оні з'явився Господь до Соломона в нічно́му сні. І Бог сказав: „Проси, що Я маю дати тобі!“
At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”
А Соломон відказав: „Ти зробив був велику милість із рабом Своїм Давидом, батьком моїм, як він ходив перед лицем Твоїм правдою та праведністю, та простото́ю серця з Тобою. І зберіг Ти йому ту велику милість, і дав йому сина, що сидить на його троні, як є й цього дня.
And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
А тепер, Господи, Боже, Ти вчинив Свого раба царем замість батька мого Давида, — а я недо́росток, не знаю ви́ходу та входу.
Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.
А раб Твій серед народу Твого, якого Ти вибрав, — він народ числе́нний, що його не можна ані злічити, ані зрахувати через многоту́.
And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.
Дай же Своєму рабові серце розумне, щоб судити народ Твій, щоб розрізня́ти добре від злого, бо хто потрапить керувати цим великим народом Твоїм?“
І була́ та річ приємна в Господніх оча́х, що Соломон попросив оцю річ.
The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
І сказав Бог до нього: „За те, що просив ти цю річ, а не просив для себе днів довгих та багатства, і не просив душ ворогів своїх, а просив собі розуму, щоб уміти судити,
Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,
то ось зроблю́ Я за словом твоїм, — ось Я даю тобі серце мудре та розумне, так що такого, як ти, не було́ перед тобою й не встане такий, як ти, по тобі.
behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.
А також те, чого не просив ти, Я даю тобі: і бага́тство, і славу таку, що такого, як ти, не було перед тобою й не буде ніко́го серед царів усе життя твоє.
And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.
А якщо ти ходи́тимеш Моїми дорогами, щоб дотримувати постанови Мої та заповіді Мої, як ходив був батько твій Давид, то продо́вжу дні твої!“
І прокинувся Соломон, аж ось — це був сон. І ввійшов він до Єрусалиму, та й став перед ковчегом Господнього заповіту, і приніс цілопа́лення та вчинив жертви мирні. І зробив він гостину для всіх своїх слуг.
Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
І прийшли до царя дві жі́нки блудни́ці, та й стали перед обличчям його.
Solomon’s Wise Judgment
Now two women who were harlots came to the king, and stood before him.

І сказала одна жінка: „Прошу́, пане мій, — я та ця жінка сидимо́ в одно́му домі. І породила я при ній у цьому домі.
And one woman said, “O my lord, this woman and I dwell in the same house; and I gave birth while she was in the house.
І сталося третього дня по по́роді моїм, і породила теж оця жінка. А ми були́ ра́зом, ніко́го чужого в домі з нами не було́, тільки двоє нас було в домі.
А вночі помер син цієї жінки, бо вона налягла на нього.
And this woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on him.
І встала вона серед ночі, і взяла́ мого сина від мене, — а невільниця твоя спала, — і поклала його при своєму лоні, а свого померлого сина поклала при лоні моїм.
So she arose in the middle of the night and took my son from my side, while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
І встала я рано, щоб погодува́ти сина свого, аж ось — помер він! І придивилася я до нього рано, а ото — не був це син мій, що я породила“...
And when I rose in the morning to nurse my son, there he was, dead. But when I had examined him in the morning, indeed, he was not my son whom I had borne.”
А інша жінка відказала: „Ні, то мій син — живий, а твій син — мертвий!“ А та говорила: „Ні, то твій син — мертвий, а мій син — живий!“ І так спереча́лись вони перед царем.
Then the other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.”
And the first woman said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.”
Thus they spoke before the king.
And the first woman said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.”

І сказав цар: „Ця говорить: Це мій син живий, а син твій — мертвий, а та говорить: Ні, то син твій — мертвий, а мій син — живий“.
And the king said, “The one says, ‘This is my son, who lives, and your son is the dead one’; and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’ ”
І сказав цар: „Подайте мені меча́!“ І прине́сли меча перед цареве обличчя.
Then the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
І сказав цар: „Розітні́ть це живе дитя надво́є, і дайте половину одній, а половину дру́гій!“
And the king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other.”
І сказала до царя жінка, що син її — той живий, бо запалилася любов її до сина свого, — і сказала вона: „Прошу́, пане мій, дайте їй немовлятко живим, а забити — не забивайте його́!“ А та каже: „Хай не буде ні мені, ні тобі, — розтинайте!“
Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, for she yearned with compassion for her son; and she said, “O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him!”
But the other said, “Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.”
But the other said, “Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.”
А цар відповів та й сказав: „Дайте їй це живе немовлятко, а вбивати — не вбивайте його. Вона його мати!“
So the king answered and said, “Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him; she is his mother.”
