Двадцятого й третього року Йоаша, сина Ахазії, Юдиного царя, зацарював над Ізраїлем у Самарії Єгоахаз, син Єгу, на сімнадцять літ.
Kings of Israel: Jehoahaz and Jehoash
In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel at Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years.

І робив він зло в Господніх оча́х, і ходив у гріхах Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і не відхиля́вся від того.
He did evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel sin; he did not turn from them.
І запалився гнів Господа на Ізраїля, і Він дав їх у руку Газаїла, царя сирійського, та в руку Бен-Гадада, Газаїлового сина, на всі ті дні.
So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them continually into the hand of Hazael king of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael.
Та вблагав Єгоахаз лице Господнє, — і Господь його вислухав, бо бачив Він горе Ізраїля, бо тиснув їх сирійський цар.
Then Jehoahaz entreated the favor of the LORD, and the LORD listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Aram oppressed them.
І дав Господь Ізраїлеві спаси́теля, і вони вийшли з-під руки Сирії. І сиділи Ізраїлеві сини в своїх наметах, як давніш.
The LORD gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Arameans; and the sons of Israel lived in their tents as formerly.
Тільки не відійшли вони з гріхів дому Єровоама, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і сам у тому ходив, і Астарта стояла в Самарії.
Nevertheless they did not turn away from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained standing in Samaria.
А Сирія не позоставила Єгоахазові наро́ду, як тільки п'ятдеся́т верхівці́в та десять возів, та десять тисяч піхоти, бо їх вигубив сирійський цар, і зробив їх порохом на топта́ння.
For he left to Jehoahaz of the army not more than fifty horsemen and ten chariots and 10,000 footmen, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.
А решта діл Єгоахаза, і все, що́ він робив, та його лица́рськість, он вони написані в Книзі Ізраїлевих царів.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
І спочив Єгоахаз з батька́ми своїми, і поховали його в Самарії, а замість нього зацарював син його Йоаш.
And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his son became king in his place.
Тридцятого й сьомого року Йоаша, Юдиного царя, зацарював над Ізраїлем у Самарії Йоаш, Єгоахазів син, на шістнадцять літ.
In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
І робив він зле в Господніх оча́х, і не відходив від усіх гріхів Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, і в тому́ ходив.
He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel sin, but he walked in them.
А решта діл Йоаша, і все, що він робив, і лица́рськість його́, як він воював з Амацією, Юдиним царем, — он вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.
Now the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
І спочив Йоаш з батьками своїми, а Єровоам сів на троні його. І був похований Йоаш у Самарії, з Ізраїлевими царями.
So Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
А Єлисей заслаб на неду́гу, що з неї й поме́р. І зійшов до нього Йоаш, Ізраїлів цар, і плакав над ним і говорив: „Ба́тьку мій, батьку мій, колесни́це Ізра́їлева та верхівці́ його!“
Death of Elisha
When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”
І сказав йому Єлисей: „Візьми лука та стрі́ли“. І приніс той до нього лука та стріли.
Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he took a bow and arrows.
А він сказав Ізраїлевому цареві: „Поклади свою руку на лука!“ І той поклав свою руку. А Єлисей поклав свої руки на руки цареві.
Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” And he put his hand on it, then Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands.
І він сказав: „Відчини вікно на схід!“ І той відчинив. І сказав Єлисей: „Стріляй!“ І той вистрілив, а він сказав: „Стріла́ спасі́ння Господнього, і стріла спасіння проти Сирії. І поб'єш ти Сирію в Афеку аж до кінця!“
He said, “Open the window toward the east,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot!” And he shot. And he said, “The LORD’S arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will defeat the Arameans at Aphek until you have destroyed them.”
І він сказав: „Візьми стрі́ли!“ І той узяв, а він сказав до Ізраїлевого царя: „Удар по землі!“ І він ударив три рази та й став.
Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground,” and he struck it three times and stopped.
І розгнівався на нього Божий чоловік і сказав: „Щоб ти був ударив п'ять або шість раз, тоді побив би Сирію аж до кінця! А тепер тільки три рази поб'єш ти Сирію“.
So the man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck five or six times, then you would have struck Aram until you would have destroyed it. But now you shall strike Aram only three times.”
І спочи́в Єлисей, і поховали його. А моавські о́рди прийшли до Кра́ю наступного року.
Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year.
І сталося, як ховали одно́го чоловіка, то погребальники побачили ті о́рди, та й кинули того чоловіка до Єлисеєвого гро́бу. А коли впав і доторкнувся той чоловік до Єлисеєвих косте́й, то воскрес, і встав на ноги свої...
As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet.
А Газаїл, сирійський цар, тиснув Ізраїля всі дні Єгоахаза.
Now Hazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
Та Господь був милости́вий до них, і змилувася над ними, і звернувся до них ради заповіта Свого з Авраамом, Ісаком та Яковом, і не хотів ви́губити їх, і не відкинув їх від Свого лиця аж дотепер.
But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them and turned to them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence until now.
І спочи́в Газаїл, сирійський цар, а замість нього зацарював син його Бен-Гадад.
When Hazael king of Aram died, Ben-hadad his son became king in his place.
І Йоаш, Єгоахазів син, узяв назад ті міста з руки Бен-Гадада, Газаїлового сина, що взяв був із руки Єгоахаза, свого батька, у війні. Три ра́зи побив його Йоаш, і вернув Ізраїлеві міста.
Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
