Hezekiah Reigns in Judah
In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.

Він був віку двадцяти й п'яти літ, коли зацарював, і царював в Єрусалимі двадцять і дев'ять літ. А ім'я́ його матері — Аві, дочка́ Захарія.
He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
І робив він угодне в Господніх оча́х, усе так, як робив був його батько Давид.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.
Він понищив па́гірки, і поламав стовпи для богів, і стяв Астарту, і розбив мідяно́го змія, якого зробив був Мойсей, бо аж до цих днів Ізраїлеві сини все кадили йому й кликали його: Нехушта́н.
Він наді́явся на Господа, Бога Ізраїля, і такого, як він, не було між усіма́ царями Юдиними, ані між тими, що були перед ним.
He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.
І міцно тримався він Господа, не відступався від Нього, і додержував заповіді Його, що наказав був Господь Мойсеєві.
For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses.
І був Господь із ним, — у всьому, куди він ходив, він мав пово́дження. І збунтувався він на асирійського царя, і не служив йому.
And the Lord was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him.
Він побив филисти́млян аж до Аззи́ та границі її від вартово́ї башти аж до тверди́нного міста.
He struck down the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city.
І сталося четвертого року царя Єзекії, — це сьомий рік Осі́ї, Елиного сина, Ізраїлевого царя, — пішов Салманаса́р, цар асирійський, на Самарію, та й обліг її.
In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it,
І здобув він її по трьох рока́х: шостого року Єзекії, — це дев'ятий рік Осі́ї, Ізраїлевого царя, — була здобута Самарія.
and at the end of three years he took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
І вигнав асирійський цар Ізраїля до Асирії, і попровадив їх у Халах, і в Хавор, над річку Ґазан, та до мідійських міст.
The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
Це за те, що не слухалися вони голосу Господа, Бога свого, і переступали заповіта Його; усього, що наказав був Мойсей, раб Господній, вони ані не слухали, ані не робили.
because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened nor obeyed.
А чотирнадцятого року царя Єзекії прийшов Санхері́в, цар асирійський, на всі укріплені Юдині міста́, та й захопи́в їх.

In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

І послав Єзекія, цар Юдин, до царя асирійського, до Лахішу, говорячи: „Згрішив я! Відійди від мене, а що накладе́ш на мене, понесу́.“ І наклав асирійський цар на Єзекію, Юдиного царя, три сотні талантів срібла та тридцять талантів золота.
І віддав Єзекія все срібло, зна́йдене в Господньому домі та в царе́вих скарбни́цях.
And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house.
Того ча́су Єзекія відрубав золото з дверей Господнього дому та зо стовпів, що покрив був Єзекія, Юдин цар, золотом, і дав його́ асирійському цареві.
At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord and from the doorposts that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid and gave it to the king of Assyria.
А асирійський цар послав із Лахішу до царя Єзекії головного кома́ндувача, і великого є́внуха та великого ча́шника з великим ві́йськом до Єрусалиму. І пішли вони, і прийшли та й стали над водотя́гом горі́шнього ставу, що на битій дорозі до поля Валю́шників.
And the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rab-saris, and the Rabshakeh with a great army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. When they arrived, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway to the Washer’s Field.
І кли́кнули вони до царя, і до них вийшов Еліяким, син Хілкійї, начальник палати, і писар Шевна, та Йоах, син Асафів, ка́нцлер.
And when they called for the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder.
І сказав до них великий ча́шник: „Скажіть Єзекії: Отак сказав великий цар, цар асирійський: Що́ це за надія, на яку ти наді́єшся?
And the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this trust of yours?
Чи думаєш ти, що слово уст, то вже рада та сила до війни? На ко́го тепер наді́єшся, що збунтувався проти мене?
Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? In whom do you now trust, that you have rebelled against me?
Тепер оце ти надієшся собі опе́ртися на оту пола́ману очерети́ну, на Єгипет, що коли хто опирається на неї, то вона вхо́дить у долоню йому й продіря́влює її. Отакий фараон, цар єгипетський, для всіх, хто надіється на нього.
Behold, you are trusting now in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
А коли ви скажете мені: Ми наді́ємось на Господа, Бога нашого, то чи ж Він не Той, що Єзекія понищив па́гірки Його та же́ртівники Його, і сказав Юді та Єрусалимові: перед оцим тільки же́ртівником будете вклонятися в Єрусалимі?
But if you say to me, “We trust in the Lord our God,” is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, “You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem”?
А тепер піди в за́клад із моїм паном, ассирійським царем, і я дам тобі дві тисячі ко́ней, якщо ти зможеш собі дати на них верхівці́в.
Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
І як же ти проженеш хоч одно́го намісника з найменших слуг мого пана? А ти собі наді́єшся на Єгипет ради колесни́ць та верхівців!
How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master’s servants, when you trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Тепер же, чи без Господа прийшов я на це місце, щоб знищити його? Господь сказав був мені: Піди на той край та знищ його!“
Moreover, is it without the Lord that I have come up against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, “Go up against this land and destroy it.”’”
І сказав Еліяким, син Хілкійї, і Шевна та Йоах до великого ча́шника: „Говори до своїх рабів по-араме́йському, бо ми розуміємо, і не говори з нами по-юде́йському в слух тих людей, що на мурі“.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to the Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
І сказав до них великий ча́шник: „Чи пан мій послав мене говорити ці слова́ до твого пана та до тебе? Хіба не до цих людей, що сидять на мурі, щоб із вами їсти вій кал та пити свою се́чу?“
But the Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and to drink their own urine?”
І став великий чашник, і кликнув гучним голосом по-юдейському, і говорив і сказав: „Послухайте слово великого царя, царя асирійського:
Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria!
Так сказав цар: Нехай не ду́рить вас Єзекія, бо він не зможе врятува́ти вас від руки його!
І нехай не запевня́є вас Єзекія Господом, говорячи: Рятуючи, врятує вас Господь, і не буде да́но цього міста в руку царя асирійського.
Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord by saying, The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
Не слухайте Єзекії, бо так сказав цар асирійський: Примиріться зо много, та й ви́йдіть до мене, та й їжте кожен свій виноград та кожен фіґу свою, і пийте кожен воду зо своєї ко́панки,
аж поки я не прийду́ й не візьму́ вас до краю такого ж, як ваш Край, до кра́ю збіжжя та виноградного соку, до краю хліба та виноградників, до краю оливки, оливного соку та меду, — щоб ви жили й не вмирали! І не слухайте Єзекії, коли він намовляє вас, говорячи: Господь порятує нас!
until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey, that you may live, and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.”
Чи справді врятували боги тих народів, кожен свій край від руки асирійського царя?
Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Де боги Гамату та Арпаду? Де боги Сефарваїму, Гени та Івви? Чи врятува́ли вони Самарію від моєї руки?
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Котрий з-поміж усіх богів цих краї́в урятував свій край від моєї руки, — то невже ж Господь уряту́є Єрусалим від моєї руки?“
Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
І мовчав той наро́д, і не відповів йому ані сло́ва, бо це був нака́з царя, що сказав: „Не відповідайте йому́!“
But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king’s command was, “Do not answer him.”
І прийшов Еліяким, син Хілкійї, начальник палати, і писар Шевна, і Йоах, Асафів син, ка́нцлер, із роздертими шатами, до Єзекії, і доне́сли йому слова́ великого чашника.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.
