А пророк Єлисей покликав одно́го з пророчих синів і сказав йому: „Підпережи́ свої сте́гна, і візьми це горня́ оливи в свою руку, і йди до ґілеа́дського Рамо́ту.
І при́йдеш туди, і побач там Єгу́, сина Йосафа́та, Німшієвого сина. І ти вві́йдеш, і ві́зьмеш його з-між братів його, і введеш його до вну́трішньої кімна́ти.
and find Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. Call him into a private room away from his friends,
І ві́зьмеш горня́ цієї оливи, і ви́ллєш на його голову та й скажеш: Так сказав Господь: Пома́зую тебе на царя над Ізраїлем! А по тому відчи́ниш двері й утечеш, і не будеш чекати“.
and pour the oil over his head. Say to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you to be the king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run for your life!”
І пішов той слуга, слуга пророка, до ґілеадського Рамоту.
So the young prophet did as he was told and went to Ramoth-gilead.
І прийшов він, аж ось сидять керівники́ ві́йська. І він сказав: „Слово мені до тебе, о керівнику!“ А Єгу відказав: „До ко́го з усіх нас?“ І той сказав: „До тебе, о керівнику!“
When he arrived there, he found Jehu sitting around with the other army officers. “I have a message for you, Commander,” he said.
“For which one of us?” Jehu asked.
“For you, Commander,” he replied.
“For which one of us?” Jehu asked.
“For you, Commander,” he replied.
І він устав, і вийшов до дому, а той вилив оливу на його голову. І сказав він йому: „Так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Пома́зую тебе на царя над народом Господнім, над Ізраїлем!
So Jehu left the others and went into the house. Then the young prophet poured the oil over Jehu’s head and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the LORD’s people, Israel.
І ти поб'єш дім Ахава, пана свого, і помстиш за кров Моїх рабів пророків, і за кров усіх Господніх рабів від руки Єзаве́лі.
You are to destroy the family of Ahab, your master. In this way, I will avenge the murder of my prophets and all the LORD’s servants who were killed by Jezebel.
І згине ввесь Ахавів дім, і ви́гублю Ахавові навіть те, що мочиться на стіну́, і невільного та вільного в Ізраїлі!
The entire family of Ahab must be wiped out. I will destroy every one of his male descendants, slave and free alike, anywhere in Israel.
І зроблю́ Ахавів дім, як дім Єровоама, Неватового сина, і як дім Баші, сина Ахійїного.
I will destroy the family of Ahab as I destroyed the families of Jeroboam son of Nebat and of Baasha son of Ahijah.
А Єзаве́лю з'їдять пси в Їзрее́левій діля́нці, і не буде, хто б її поховав“. І відчини́в він двері та й утік...
Dogs will eat Ahab’s wife Jezebel at the plot of land in Jezreel, and no one will bury her.” Then the young prophet opened the door and ran.
А Єгу́ вийшов до слуг свого пана, і вони сказали йому: „Чи все гаразд? Чого прихо́див той несамови́тий до тебе?“ А він відказав: „Ви знаєте того чоловіка та його мову“.
Jehu went back to his fellow officers, and one of them asked him, “What did that madman want? Is everything all right?”
“You know how a man like that babbles on,” Jehu replied.

А вони відказали: „Неправда! Розкажи ж нам!“ І той сказав: „Отак і так сказав він до мене, говорячи: Так сказав Господь: Пома́зую тебе на царя над Ізраїлем!“
“You’re hiding something,” they said. “Tell us.”
So Jehu told them, “He said to me, ‘This is what the LORD says: I have anointed you to be king over Israel.’”

А ті поспішно взяли́ кожен шати свої, і постели́ли під ним на верху́ сходів. І засурми́ли вони в сурму́, і сказали: „Зацарював Єгу!“
Then they quickly spread out their cloaks on the bare steps and blew the ram’s horn, shouting, “Jehu is king!”
І змовився Єгу, син Йосафа́та, Німшієвого сина, проти Йорама. А Йорам стеріг ґілеадського Рамота, він та ввесь Ізраїль перед Газаїлом, сирійським царе́м.
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah
So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, led a conspiracy against King Joram. (Now Joram had been with the army at Ramoth-gilead, defending Israel against the forces of King Hazael of Aram.
І вернувся цар Єгора́м лікуватися в Їзреелі від ран, що вчинили йому сирі́яни, як він воював з Газаїлом, сирійським царем. І сказав Єгу: „Якщо згода ваша на те, нехай не вийде жо́ден утікач із міста, щоб піти доне́сти в Їзреелі“.
І сів ве́рхи Єгу, і поїхав до Їзреелу, бо Йорам лежав там. А Ахазія, цар Юдин, зійшов побачити Йорама.
Then Jehu got into a chariot and rode to Jezreel to find King Joram, who was lying there wounded. King Ahaziah of Judah was there, too, for he had gone to visit him.
А на башті в Їзрее́лі стояв вартови́й. І побачив він на́товп Єгуїв, як він ішов, і сказав: „Я бачу на́товп!“ А Єгорам відказав: Візьми верхівця́, і пошли назу́стріч їм, і нехай він скаже: Чи все гаразд?“
The watchman on the tower of Jezreel saw Jehu and his company approaching, so he shouted to Joram, “I see a company of troops coming!”
“Send out a rider to ask if they are coming in peace,” King Joram ordered.

І відправився верхіве́ць назу́стріч йому, і сказав: „Так сказав цар: Чи все гара́зд?“ А Єгу́ відказав: „Що́ тобі до того? Повертай за мною!“ І доніс вартови́й, говорячи: „Прийшов той посо́л аж до них, та не вернувся“.
So a horseman went out to meet Jehu and said, “The king wants to know if you are coming in peace.”
Jehu replied, “What do you know about peace? Fall in behind me!”

І послав він другого верхівця́, і він прийшов до них та й сказав: „Так сказав цар: Чи все гара́зд?“ А Єгу відказав: „Що тобі до гара́зду? Повертай за мною!“
So the king sent out a second horseman. He rode up to them and said, “The king wants to know if you come in peace.”
Again Jehu answered, “What do you know about peace? Fall in behind me!”

І доніс вартови́й, говорячи: „Прийшов він аж до них, та не вернувся. А кі́нна їзда́, як їзда Єгу, Німшієвого сина, бо їде несамовито“.
The watchman exclaimed, “The messenger has met them, but he isn’t returning either! It must be Jehu son of Nimshi, for he’s driving like a madman.”
І сказав Єгорам: „Запрягай!“ І запріг його колесни́цю. І відправився Єгорам, Ізраїлів цар, та Ахазія, Юдин цар, кожен своєю колесни́цею, щоб зустріти Єгу, — і спітка́ли його в діля́нці їзреелянина Навота.
“Quick! Get my chariot ready!” King Joram commanded.
Then King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah rode out in their chariots to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of land that had belonged to Naboth of Jezreel.

І сталося, як Єгорам побачив Єгу, то сказав: „Чи все гаразд, Єгу?“ А той відказав: „Який гаразд при пере́любі твоєї матері Єзавелі та її багатьох чарів?“
King Joram demanded, “Do you come in peace, Jehu?”
Jehu replied, “How can there be peace as long as the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother, Jezebel, are all around us?”

І обернув Єгорам руки свої та й утік. І сказав він Ахазії: „Зра́да, Ахазіє!“
А Єгу взяв лука в руку свою, і вдарив Єгорама між його раме́нами, — і проби́ла стріла його серце, і він похили́вся на колесни́ці своїй...
But Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart, and he sank down dead in his chariot.
І сказав Єгу до Бідкара, вельможі свого́: „Візьми, кинь його на діля́нці поля їзреелянина Навота. Бо пам'ятай, — я й ти ї́хали вдвох за Ахавом, батьком його, а Господь прорік на нього оце пророцтво:
Jehu said to Bidkar, his officer, “Throw him into the plot of land that belonged to Naboth of Jezreel. Do you remember when you and I were riding along behind his father, Ahab? The LORD pronounced this message against him:
Поправді кажу, що бачив Я вчора кров Навота та кров синів його, говорить Господь, і відплачу́ тобі на цій же діля́нці, говорить Господь. А тепер кинь його на цій діля́нці за словом Господнім“.
‘I solemnly swear that I will repay him here on this plot of land, says the LORD, for the murder of Naboth and his sons that I saw yesterday.’ So throw him out on Naboth’s property, just as the LORD said.”
А Ахазія, Юдин цар, побачив це, і втікав дорогою на Бет-Гаґґан, а Єгу́ погна́вся за ним і сказав: „Убийте й його на колесни́ці!“ І поранили його в Маале-Ґурі, що при Ївлеамі, а він утік до Меґіддо та й помер там.
А раби його відве́зли його ве́рхи до Єрусалиму, та й поховали його в його гро́бі з батька́ми його в Давидовому Місті.
His servants took him by chariot to Jerusalem, where they buried him with his ancestors in the City of David.
А в одина́дцятому році Йорама, Ахавового сина, над Юдою зацарював Ахазія.
Ahaziah had become king over Judah in the eleventh year of the reign of Joram son of Ahab.
І прийшов Єгу до Їзрее́ля, а Єзаве́ль почула про це, і нафарбувала очі свої, і прикра́сила голову свою, та й виглянула через вікно.
The Death of Jezebel
When Jezebel, the queen mother, heard that Jehu had come to Jezreel, she painted her eyelids and fixed her hair and sat at a window.
А Єгу входить до брами. І сказала вона: „Чи все гаразд, Зімрі, убивце пана свого́?“
І підняв він обличчя своє до вікна та й сказав: „Хто зо мною, хто?“ І виглянули до нього два-три є́внухи.
Jehu looked up and saw her at the window and shouted, “Who is on my side?” And two or three eunuchs looked out at him.
А він сказав: „Скиньте її!“ І викинули її, — і бри́знула кров її на стіну́ та на коні. І він топтав її...
“Throw her down!” Jehu yelled. So they threw her out the window, and her blood spattered against the wall and on the horses. And Jehu trampled her body under his horses’ hooves.
І він увійшов, і їв та пив, та й сказав: „Підіть до тієї прокля́тої, і поховайте її, бо все ж таки вона царева дочка́!“
Then Jehu went into the palace and ate and drank. Afterward he said, “Someone go and bury this cursed woman, for she is the daughter of a king.”
І пішли поховати її, та не знайшли з неї нічо́го, а тільки че́репа, та ноги, та долоні рук.
But when they went out to bury her, they found only her skull, her feet, and her hands.
І вони вернулися, і доне́сли йому про це. А він відказав: „Це слово Господа, що казав був через раба Свого тішб'янииа Іллю, говорячи: В Їзрее́левій діля́нці пси з'їдять Єзаве́лине тіло!
When they returned and told Jehu, he stated, “This fulfills the message from the LORD, which he spoke through his servant Elijah from Tishbe: ‘At the plot of land in Jezreel, dogs will eat Jezebel’s body.
