І прийшов Рехав'а́м до Єрусалиму, і зібрав дім Юдин та Веніяминів, сто й вісімдесят тисяч ви́браних військо́вих, щоб воювати з Ізраїлем, щоб вернути царство Рехав'амові.

Rehoboam’s Reign in Judah

Now when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

І було Господнє слово до Шемаї, чоловіка Божого, говорячи:

But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

„Скажи Рехав'амові, Соломо́нову синові, царе́ві Юдиному, та всьому Ізраїлеві в Юді та в Веніямині, говорячи:

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

Так сказав Господь: Не йдіть і не воюйте з своїми брата́ми! Верніться кожен до дому свого́, бо ця річ сталася від Мене!“ І вони послу́халися Господніх слів, і вернулися з похо́ду на Єровоама.

‘Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.” ’ ” Therefore they obeyed the words of the Lord, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam.

І осівся Рехав'ам в Єрусалимі, і побудував тверди́нні міста в Юді.

Rehoboam Fortifies the Cities

So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

І збудував він Віфлеєма, і Етама, і Текою,

And he built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

7

і Бет-Цура, і Сохо, і Адуллама,

7

Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

8

і Ґата, і Марешу, і Зіфа,

8

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

9

і Адораїма, і Лахіша, і Азеку,

9

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

10

і Цор'у, і Айялона, і Хеврона, що в Юді та в Веніямині, міста тверди́нні.

Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, fortified cities.

11

І зміцнив він ті тверди́ні, і дав у них начальників, і запаси, і оливи, і вина,

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

12

а до кожного окремого міста — великі щити́ та ра́тища, і дуже сильно їх позмі́цнював. І був його Юда та Веніямин.

Also in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13

А священики та Левити, що були в усьому Ізраїлі, зібралися до нього з усієї їхньої границі.

Priests and Levites Move to Judah

And from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him.

14

Бо Левити кидали пасови́ська свої та власність свою, і прихо́дили до Юди та до Єрусалиму, бо Єровоам та сини його усунули їх від священичого служі́ння Господе́ві,

14

For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord.

15

і понаставля́ли собі священиків для па́гірків та демонів, та для тельці́в, що він понаро́блював.

15

Then he appointed for himself priests for the [a]high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

16

А за ними, зо всіх Ізраїлевих племе́н ті, що віддавали своє серце шукати Господа, Бога Ізраїля, прихо́дили до Єрусалиму прино́сити жертви Господе́ві, Богові батьків своїх.

16

And [b]after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.

17

І зміцни́ли вони Юдине царство, і підси́лили Рехав'а́ма, Соломонового сина, на три роки, бо вони ходили три роки дорогою Давида та Соломона.

17

So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.

18

І взяв собі Рехав'ам жінку Махалат, дочку́ Єрімота, Давидового сина, та Авіхаїл, дочку́ Еліава, Ісаєвого сина.

The Family of Rehoboam

Then Rehoboam took for himself as wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliah the son of Jesse.

19

І вона породила йому синів: Єуша, і Шемарію, Загама.

19

And she bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham.

20

А по ній він узяв Мааху, дочку́ Авесаломову, і вона породила йому Авійю, і Аттая, і Зізу, і Шеломіта.

20

After her he took Maachah the [c]granddaughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

21

І покохав Рехав'ам Мааху, Авесаломову дочку́, над усіх жіно́к своїх та наложниць своїх, бо він узяв вісімнадцять жіно́к та шістдеся́т наложниць, і породив двадцять і вісім синів та шістдеся́т дочо́к.

Now Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22

А за го́лову Рехав'ам поставив Авійю, Маахиного сина, за володаря серед братів його, бо він хотів настанови́ти його царем.

And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

23

І мудро він чинив, і порозсилав усіх синів своїх до всіх країв Юди й Веніямина, до всіх тверди́нних міст, і дав їм багате утри́мання, і підшукав їм багато жіно́к.

He dealt wisely, and [d]dispersed some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. He also sought many wives for them.
