Asa Succeeds Abijah in Judah
And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

І повсував він же́ртівники чужих богів та па́гірки, і порозбивав камінні стовпи́ для божків, і постинав святі дере́ва.
And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his God;
І наказав він Юді звертатися до Господа, Бога батькі́в своїх, і виконувати Його Зако́на та заповідь.
and he took away the altars of the strange [gods] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs;
І повсував він зо всіх Юдиних міст па́гірки та подо́би сонця. І заспоко́їлося царство при ньому.
and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment.
І побудував він тверди́нні міста в Юді, бо заспоко́ївся край, і не було на нього війни за тих років, бо Господь дав йому мир.
And he removed out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.
І сказав він до Юди: „Побудуймо ці міста, й оточі́мо муром та ба́штами, ворітьми́ та засу́вами. Іще він, цей край, наш, бо зверта́лися ми до Господа, нашого Бога. Зверта́лися ми, і Він дав нам мир навко́ло“. І побудува́ли, і їм щасти́ло.
And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had given him rest.
І було в Аси ві́йська: носіїв великих щиті́в та ра́тищ з Юди — три сотні тисяч, а з Веніямина таких, що носять мало́го щита́, та лу́чників — двісті й вісімдеся́т тисяч. Усі вони — хоробрі вояки́.
And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered.
І вийшов на них кушеянин Зерах із ві́йськом у тисячу тисяч та з трьома́ сотнями колесни́ць, і прибув аж до Мареші.
And Asa had an army that bore targets and spears: out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these, mighty men of valour.
І вийшов Аса проти нього, і вони вста́вилися до бо́ю в долині Цефат при Мареші.
And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
І кликнув Аса до Господа, Бога свого, та й сказав: „Господи, нема кому, крім Те́бе, допомогти числе́нному або безси́лому. Допоможи нам, Господи, Боже наш, бо ми на Тебе опира́ємося, і в Ім'я́ Твоє ми прийшли на цю бе́зліч. Господи, Ти Бог наш, нехай люди́на не має сили проти Тебе!“
And Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.
І побив Господь кушеян перед Асою та перед Юдою, — і кушеяни повтікали.
And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
І гнав їх Аса та народ, що був з ним, аж до Ґерару. І попа́дало з кушеян багато, так що ніхто з них не залишився живий, бо вони були поторощені перед Господнім лицем та перед табором Його. І поне́сли вони дуже багато здо́бичі.
And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
І побили вони всі міста навколо Ґерару, бо Господній страх був на них. І пограбували вони всі ті міста, бо в них було багато здо́бичі.
And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that none of them was left alive; for they were crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much spoil.
