І сталося по тому, пішли моаві́тяни та аммоні́тяни, а з ними деякі з меунян, проти Йосафата на війну́.
І прийшли, і доне́сли Йосафатові, говорячи: „Прийшла на тебе сила силенна з того боку моря, з Сирії, і ось вони в Хаццон-Тамарі, воно — Ен-Ґеді“.
І злякався Йосафа́т, і постановив зверну́тися до Господа. І він проголосив піст на всю Юдею.
Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.
І зібралися юде́яни просити допомоги від Господа, також поприхо́дили зо всіх Юдиних міст просити Господа.
The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.
І став Йосафа́т у зборі Юдиному та єрусали́мському в Господньому домі, перед нови́м подві́р'ям,
Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the Lord in the front of the new courtyard
та й сказав: „Господи, Боже батьків наших! Чи ж не Ти Бог на небеса́х? І Ти пануєш над усіма́ царствами наро́дів, і в руці Твоїй — сила та міць, і немає такого, хто б став проти Тебе!
and said:
“Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.

Чи ж не Ти, Боже наш, повиганя́в ме́шканців цього Кра́ю перед наро́дом Твоїм, Ізраїлем, і дав його Авраамовому насінню, Твоє́му при́ятелеві навіки?
Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?
І вони осілися в ньому, і збудували Тобі в ньому святиню для Ймення Твого, говорячи:
They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying,
Якщо при́йде на нас зло, — меч укара́ння, чи морови́ця, чи голод, то ми станемо перед цим храмом та перед лицем Твоїм, бо Ім'я́ Твоє в цьому храмі, і бу́демо кли́кати до Тебе з нашого у́тиску, — і Ти почуєш, і спасеш.
‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.’
А тепер ось сини Аммонові й Моавові та ме́шканці гори́ Сеїр, що через них Ти не дав ізра́їльтянам іти, коли вони вихо́дили були з єгипетського кра́ю, і вони минули їх, і не ви́губили їх,
“But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them.
і оце вони відплачують нам нава́лою, щоб вигнати нас із спа́дку Твого, який Ти віддав нам.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance.
Боже наш, чи ж Ти не осу́диш їх? Нема бо в нас сили перед цією силою силе́нною, що прихо́дить на нас, і ми не знаємо, що́ зробимо, бо наші очі — на Тебе!“
Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
А всі юде́яни стояли перед Господнім лицем, також діти їхні, жінки їхні та їхні сини.
All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the Lord.

Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly.
і він сказав: „Послухайте, ввесь Юдо й ме́шканці Єрусалиму та ца́рю Йосафате! Так говорить до вас Господь: Не бійтеся та не жахайтеся перед цією силе́нною силою, бо не ваша ця війна, але Божа!
He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
Узавтра зійдіть на них, — ось вони входять збі́ччям Ціцу, і ви їх зна́йдете на кінці долини, навпроти пустині Єруїл.
Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel.
Не вам воювати в цьому, — поставтеся й станьте, і побачите, що Господнє спасі́ння з вами, Юдо й Єрусалиме! Не бійтеся й не жахайтеся, — узавтра вихо́дьте перед них, а Господь буде з вами!“
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ ”
І вклонився Йосафат обличчям до землі, а ввесь Юда та ме́шканці Єрусалиму попа́дали перед Господнім лицем, щоб уклони́тися Господе́ві.
Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord.
І встали Левити з синів Кегатівців та з синів Корахівців, щоб хвалити Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого сильним голосом, високим.
Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
І повставали вони рано вранці, і вийшли до пустині Текоя. А як вони вихо́дили, став Йосафа́т та й сказав: „Послухайте мене, Юдо та ме́шканці Єрусалиму! Віруйте в Господа, вашого Бога, і будете запе́внені, — ві́рте пророкам Його, і пощасти́ться вам!“
Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”
І радився він з наро́дом, і поставив співакі́в для Господа, і вони хвалили вели́чність святости, коли йшли перед озбро́єними, і говорили: „Дякуйте Господу, бо навіки Його милосе́рдя!“
А того ча́су, коли зачали́ вони співати та хвалити, дав Господь за́сідку на синів Аммонових і Моавових та на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, що прийшли були проти Юди, — і були вони побиті,
As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.
бо повстали аммоні́тяни та моаві́тяни на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, щоб учинити їх закля́ттям, і щоб вигубити. А коли вони покінчи́ли це з ме́шканцями Сеїру, стали помагати один проти о́дного, щоб ви́губити себе.
The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
І коли Юда прийшов на вартівню́ до пустині, і поглянули вони на на́товп, аж ось тру́пи, що попа́дали на землю, і не було урято́ваного!
When the men of Judah came to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward the vast army, they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped.
І прийшов Йосафат та наро́д його́, щоб пограбувати їхню здо́бич, і знайшли серед них душе багато і маєтку, і одежі, і кошто́вностей, і понабира́ли собі стільки, що не могли не́сти. І вони три дні все грабували ту здо́бич, бо числе́нна була вона!
А четвертого дня зібралися вони до долини Бераха, бо там благословляли Господа; тому назвали ім'я́ тому місцю: долина Бераха,і так воно зветься аж до сьогодні.
І вернулися всі юде́яни та єрусалимляни, а Йосафат на чолі́ їх, щоб вернутися до Єрусалиму з радістю, бо звесели́в їх Господь спасінням від їхніх ворогів.
Then, led by Jehoshaphat, all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the Lord had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies.
І прибули́ вони до Єрусалиму з а́рфами й з ци́трами та су́рмами до Господнього дому.
They entered Jerusalem and went to the temple of the Lord with harps and lyres and trumpets.
І був Божий страх на всі царства країв, коли вони почули, що Господь воював з Ізраїлевими ворогами.
The fear of God came on all the surrounding kingdoms when they heard how the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.
І заспоко́їлося Йосафатове царство, і дав йому його Бог мир навколо.
And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.
І царював Йосафа́т над Юдою. Він був віку тридцяти й п'яти років, коли зацарював, а двадцять і п'ять літ царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я́ його матері — Азука, дочка́ Шілхи.
The End of Jehoshaphat’s Reign
So Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king of Judah, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

І ходив він дорогою свого батька Аси, і не уступа́вся з неї, щоб робити вгодне в Господніх оча́х.
He followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
Тільки па́гірки не минулися, і народ іще не вчинив свого серця міцни́м для Бога своїх батьків.
The high places, however, were not removed, and the people still had not set their hearts on the God of their ancestors.
А решта Йосафатових діл, перші й останні, — ото вони описані в записах Єгу, сина Ханані, що внесене до книги Ізраїлевих царів.
The other events of Jehoshaphat’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the annals of Jehu son of Hanani, which are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel.
А по то́му поєднався Йосафат, цар Юдин, з Ахазією, Ізраїлевим царем, що робив несправедливо.
Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, whose ways were wicked.
