Mordecai Promoted
On that day King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews, to Queen Esther; and Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had disclosed what he was to her.

І зняв цар свого пе́рсня, що забрав від Га́мана, та й дав його Мордеха́єві, а Есте́р настановила Мордехая над Гамановим домом.
The king took off his signet ring which he had taken away from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
І Есте́р далі говорила перед обличчям царя. І впала вона перед його ногами, і плакала та блага́ла його відвернути лихо аґаґ'янина Гамана та за́думи його, які заду́мував був на юдеїв.
Then Esther spoke again to the king, fell at his feet, wept and implored him to avert the evil scheme of Haman the Agagite and his plot which he had devised against the Jews.
І простягнув цар до Есте́ри золоте бе́рло, а Есте́р устала й стала перед царе́вим обличчям,
The king extended the golden scepter to Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king.
та й сказала: „Якщо це цареві вго́дне, й якщо знайшла́ я ласку перед обличчям його, і вгодна ця річ перед царевим обличчям та вгодна я в оча́х його, нехай буде написано, щоб були́ пове́рнені ті листи́ за́думів аґаґ'янина Гамана, Гаммедатового сина, що написав був повигу́блювати юдеїв, які є в царевих окру́гах.
Then she said, “If it pleases the king and if I have found favor before him and the matter seems proper to the king and I am pleasing in his sight, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.
Бо як я могла б дивитися на лихо, що спітка́є наро́д мій, і як я могла б дивитися на заги́біль ро́ду свого́?“
“For how can I endure to see the calamity which will befall my people, and how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?”
І сказав цар Ахашверо́ш до цариці Есте́ри та до юде́янина Мордеха́я: „Ось я дав Есте́рі дім Гамана, а його повісили на ши́бениці за те, що простя́г був руку свою на юдеїв.
So King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, “Behold, I have given the house of Haman to Esther, and him they have hanged on the gallows because he had stretched out his hands against the Jews.
А ви пишіть до юдеїв, як добре в ваших оча́х, в імені царя́, і припеча́тайте царськи́м пе́рснем, бо листа́, що був написаний в імені царя та був припеча́таний царськи́м пе́рснем, не можна відмінити“.
The King’s Decree Avenges the Jews
“Now you write to the Jews as you see fit, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for a decree which is written in the name of the king and sealed with the king’s signet ring may not be revoked.”
І були покли́кані царські́ писарі́ того ча́су, місяця третього, — він місяць сіван, двадцять і третього дня в ньому, і було написане все, як наказав був Мордеха́й, до юдеїв, і до сатра́пів, і намісників, і зверхників округ, що від Году й аж до Кушу, — сто й двадцять і сім окру́г, і до кожної окру́ги письмо́м її, і до кожного народу мовою його, та до юдеїв їхнім письмо́м та їхньою мовою.
So the king’s scribes were called at that time in the third month (that is, the month Sivan), on the twenty-third day; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, the satraps, the governors and the princes of the provinces which extended from India to Ethiopia, 127 provinces, to every province according to its script, and to every people according to their language as well as to the Jews according to their script and their language.
І понапи́сував він листи́ в імені царя Ахашвероша, і поприпеча́тував пе́рснем царськи́м, і послав через гінці́в на ко́нях, які їздять на держа́вних ко́нях, ко́нях баски́х,
He wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king’s signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horses, riding on steeds sired by the royal stud.
що цар дав право юдеям, які живуть у кожному місті, зібратися й стати за своє життя, ви́губити, забити та погубити всяке ві́йсько наро́ду та окру́ги, що нена́видять їх, дітей та жінок, а здо́бич по них — розграбува́ти,
In them the king granted the Jews who were in each and every city the right to assemble and to defend their lives, to destroy, to kill and to annihilate the entire army of any people or province which might attack them, including children and women, and to plunder their spoil,
одно́го дня по всіх окру́гах царя Ахашвероша, — тринадцятого дня дванадцятого місяця, — він місяць ада́р.
on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month (that is, the month Adar).
Відпис цього листа́ щоб був ви́даний, як зако́н, у кожній окрузі, по́сланий був відкри́тий для всіх наро́дів, і щоб юдеї були гото́ві на той день помсти́тися на своїх ворогах.
A copy of the edict to be issued as law in each and every province was published to all the peoples, so that the Jews would be ready for this day to avenge themselves on their enemies.
Гінці́, що поїхали ве́рхи на швидки́х конях, вийшли, приспі́шені та пі́гнані царськи́м словом. А цей нака́з був да́ний у за́мку Су́зи.
The couriers, hastened and impelled by the king’s command, went out, riding on the royal steeds; and the decree was given out at the citadel in Susa.
А Мордехай вийшов з-перед царе́вого обличчя в царські́й одежі, блакитній та білій, а на ньому велика золота корона та віссо́нний і пурпу́ровий заві́й. І місто Су́зи раділо та тішилося!
Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a large crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.
Юдеям було тоді світло, і радість, і веселість, і честь!
For the Jews there was light and gladness and joy and honor.
І в кожній окру́зі та в кожному місті, куди досяга́є слово царя та зако́н його, була́ юдеям радість та веселість, бе́нкет та свято! І багато-хто з наро́дів кра́ю стали юде́ями, бо на них напав страх перед юде́ями.
In each and every province and in each and every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree arrived, there was gladness and joy for the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the dread of the Jews had fallen on them.
