Скажу Богові я: Не осу́джуй мене́! Повідо́м же мене, чого став Ти зо мною на прю?
I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.
Чи це добре Тобі, що Ти гно́биш мене́, що пого́рджуєш тво́ривом рук Своїх, а раду безбожних осві́тлюєш?
Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
Хіба маєш Ти очі тілесні? Чи Ти бачиш так само, як бачить люди́на люди́ну?
Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
Хіба Твої дні — як дні лю́дські, чи лі́та Твої — як дні мужа,
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man's days,
що шукаєш провини моєї й виві́дуєш гріх мій,
That thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
хоч ві́даєш Ти, що я не беззако́нник, та нема, хто б мене врятува́в від Твоєї руки?
Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.
Твої руки створили мене і вчинили мене́, потім Ти обернувся — і гу́биш мене.
Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
Пам'ятай, що мов глину мене оброби́в Ти, — і в порох мене оберта́єш.
Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Чи не ллєш мене, мов молоко, і не згусти́в Ти мене, мов на сир?
Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
Ти шкірою й тілом мене зодяга́єш, і сплів Ти мене із костей та із жил.
Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.
Життя й милість пода́в Ти мені, а опіка Твоя стерегла мого духа.
Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.
А оце заховав Ти у серці Своє́му, — я знаю, що є воно в Тебе:
And these things hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this is with thee.
якщо я грішу́, Ти мене стереже́ш, та з провини моєї мене не очи́щуєш.
If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
Якщо я провиню́ся, то горе мені! А якщо я невинний, не смію підня́ти свою голову, си́тий стидо́м та напо́єний горем своїм!
If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction;
А коли піднесе́ться вона,то Ти ловиш мене, як той лев, і зно́ву предивно зо мною пово́дишся:
For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me.
поно́влюєш свідків Своїх проти мене, помно́жуєш гнів Свій на мене, ві́йсько за ві́йськом на мене Ти шлеш.
Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war are against me.
І на́що з утро́би Ти вивів мене? Я був би помер, — і жодні́сіньке око мене не побачило б,
Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!
як нібито не існував був би я, перейшов би з утроби до гро́бу.
I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
Отож, дні мої нечисле́нні, — перестань же, й від мене вступи́сь, і нехай не турбу́юся я бодай тро́хи,
Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
поки я не піду́ — й не верну́ся! — до кра́ю темно́ти та смертної тіні,
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
