Job Acknowledges the Finality of Death
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
вона виходить, як квітка — й зів'я́не, і втікає, мов тінь, — і не зостається.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
І на такого Ти очі Свої відкрива́єш, і водиш на суд із Собою його́!
And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
Хто чистого ви́вести може з нечистого? Ані один!
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
Якщо ви́значені його дні, число його місяців — в Тебе, якщо Ти призна́чив для нього мету́, що її не пере́йде, —
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
відвернися від нього — і він заспоко́їться, і буде він тішитися своїм днем, як той на́ймит.
Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
Бо дерево має наді́ю: якщо буде стя́те, то силу отримає зно́ву, і па́рост його не загине;
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
якщо постарі́є в землі його корінь і в по́росі вмре його пень,
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
то від во́дного за́паху знов зацвіте́, і пу́стить галу́ззя, немов саджане́ць!
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
А помре чоловік — і зникає, а сконає люди́на — то де ж вона є?
But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
Як вода витікає із о́зера, а рі́чка спада́є та сохне,
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
так і та люди́на покладе́ться — й не встане, — аж до закі́нчення неба не збудяться лю́ди та не прокинуться зо́ сну свого.
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
О, якби Ти в шео́лі мене заховав, коли б Ти мене приховав, аж поки мине́ться Твій гнів, коли б час Ти призна́чив мені́, — та й про мене згадав!
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
Як помре чоловік, то чи він оживе? Буду мати наді́ю по всі дні свойого життя, аж поки не при́йде замі́на для мене!
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
Кликав би Ти, — то я відпові́в би Тобі, за чин Своїх рук сумував би,
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
бо кроки мої рахував би тепер, а мойого гріха́ не стеріг би, —
For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
провина моя була б запеча́тана в ву́злику, і Ти закрив би моє беззаконня.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
Але́ гора справді впаде́, а ске́ля зсува́ється з місця свого́,
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
каміння стирає вода, її зли́ва споло́щує порох землі, — так надію того́ Ти губиш.
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
Ти силою схо́пиш наза́вжди його́, — і відхо́дить, Ти міняєш обличчя його́ — й відсилаєш його́.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
Чи сини́ його славні, того він не знає, чи в при́крому стані — того він не відає.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
