Отож, має срі́бло своє джерело́, і є місце для золота, де його чи́стять,
The Earth's Treasures
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
залізо береться із по́роху, з ка́меня мідь виплавляється.
Iron is taken out of the dust, and copper is molten out of the stone.
Люди́на кладе для темно́ти кінця́, і докра́ю досліджує все, і шукає камі́ння у те́мряві та в смертній тіні:
[Man] putteth an end to the darkness, and exploreth to the utmost limit, the stones of darkness and of the shadow of death.
ламає в копа́льні далеко від ме́шканця; забуті ногою люди́ни, ви́сять місця́, відда́лені від чоловіка.
He openeth a shaft far from the inhabitants [of the earth]: forgotten of the foot, they hang suspended; away below men they hover.
Земля — хліб із неї похо́дить, а під нею пори́то, немов би огнем,
As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as by fire;
місце сапфі́ру — каміння її, й порох золота в ній.
The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
Стежка туди — не знає її хижий птах, її око орли́не не бачило,
It is a path no bird of prey knoweth, and the vulture's eye hath not seen it;
не ступала по ній молода звірина́, не ходив нею лев.
The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed over it.
Чоловік свою руку по кре́мінь витя́гує, гори від кореня переверта́є,
[Man] putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock, he overturneth the mountains by the root.
пробива́є у скелях канали, і все дороге бачить око його!
He cutteth out channels in the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.
Він зага́чує рі́ки від ви́ливу, а захо́вані речі виво́дить на світло.
He bindeth the streams that they drip not, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
Та де мудрість знахо́диться, і де́ місце розуму?
Wisdom an Excellent Gift of God
But wisdom, where shall it be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Люди́на не знає ціни їй, і вона у країні живих не знахо́диться.
Man knoweth not the value thereof; and it is not found in the land of the living.
Безо́дня говорить: „Вона не в мені!“ і море звіщає: „Вона не зо мною!“
The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me.
Щирого золота дати за неї не можна, і не ва́житься срі́бло ціною за неї.
Choice gold cannot be given for it, nor silver be weighed for its price.
Не важать за неї офі́рського золота, ні дорогого оні́ксу й сапі́ру.
It is not set in the balance with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, and the sapphire.
Золото й скло — не рівня́ються в ва́ртості їй, і її не зміня́ти на по́суд із щирого золота.
Gold and glass cannot be compared to it, nor vessels of fine gold be its exchange.
Кора́лі й кришта́ль і не зга́дуються, а набу́ток премудрости — ліпший за пе́рли!
Corals and crystal are no more remembered; yea, the acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.
Не рівня́ється їй етіо́пський топа́з, і не ва́житься золото щире за неї.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be compared to it, neither shall it be set in the balance with pure gold.
А мудрість ізвідки прихо́дить, і де́ місце розуму?
Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Бо вона від очей усьо́го живого захо́вана, і від птаства небесного скрита вона.
For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowl of the heavens.
Аваддо́н той і смерть промовляють: Ушима своїми ми чули про неї лиш чутку!
Destruction and death say, We have heard its report with our ears.
Тільки Бог розуміє дорогу її, й тільки Він знає місце її!
God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:
Бо Він аж на кінці землі придивля́ється, ба́чить під небом усім.
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.
Коли́ Він чинив вагу ві́трові, а воду утво́рював мірою,
In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,
коли Він уста́ву складав для дощу та дороги для бли́скавки грому,
In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:
тоді Він побачив її та про неї повів, міцно поставив її та її дослідив!
Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;
