І говорив Елі́гу та й сказав:

Elihu Reminds Job of God's Justice

Elihu spake moreover, and said,

„Чи це полічив ти за право, як кажеш: „Моя праведність більша за Божу“?

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

Бо ти говорив: „Що́ поможе тобі? Яку ко́ристь із цього я матиму більшу, аніж від свойого гріха́?“

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Я тобі відповім, а з тобою і ближнім твоїм.

I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Подивися на небо й побач, і на хмари споглянь, — вони вищі за тебе.

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

Як ти будеш грішити, що́ зробиш Йому? А стануть числе́нні провини твої, що́ ти вчиниш Йому?

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Коли праведним станеш, що́ даси ти Йому? Або що́ Він ві́зьме з твоєї руки?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Для люди́ни, як ти, беззако́ння твоє, і для лю́дського сина твоя справедливість!

Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

Від бе́злічі гно́блення стогнуть вони, кричать від твердо́го плеча багатьох.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Та не скаже ніхто: Де ж той Бог, що мене Він створив, що вночі дає співи,

But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

що нас над худобу земну́ Він навчає, і над птаство небесне вчиняє нас мудрими?

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

Вони там кричать, але через бундю́чність злочинців Він відповіді не дає.

There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

Тільки марно́ти не слухає Бог, і Всемогу́тній не бачить її.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Що ж тоді, коли кажеш: „Не бачив Його!“ Та є суд перед Ним, — і чекай ти його́!

Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

А тепер, коли гнів Його не покарав, і не дуже пізнав про глупо́ту,

But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

то нама́рно Йов уста свої відкриває та мно́жить слова́ без знання́“.

Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
