The Plague of Locusts
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them,
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them,
і щоб ти розповідав в уші сина свого та онука свого, що́ зробив Я в Єгипті, та про озна́ки Мої, що вчинив я серед них. І ви бу́дете знати, що Я — Господь!“
and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the LORD.”
І ввійшли Мойсей та Аарон до фараона, та й сказали йому: „Так сказав Господь, Бог євреїв: Аж доки ти бу́деш відмовля́тися впокори́тися передо Мною? Відпусти Мій наро́д, — і нехай вони служать Мені!
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Бо коли ти відмо́вишся відпустити народ Мій, то ось Я взавтра спроваджу сарану́ на твій край.
‘For if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.
І покриє вона поверхню землі, і не можна буде бачити землі. І поїсть вона решту вцілілого, позосталого вам від граду, і поїсть вона кожне дерево, що росте вам з землі.
‘They shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one will be able to see the land. They will also eat the rest of what has escaped — what is left to you from the hail — and they will eat every tree which sprouts for you out of the field.
І перепо́вняться нею доми́ ваші, і доми́ всіх рабів ваших, і доми́ всього Єгипту, чого не бачили батьки́ ваші та батьки батьків твоїх від дня існува́ння їх на землі аж до сьогодні!“ І він відвернувся, і вийшов від фараона.
‘Then your houses shall be filled and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians, something which neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day that they came upon the earth until this day.’” And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
І сказали раби фараона до нього: „Аж доки цей буде нам па́сткою? Відпусти цих людей, — і нехай вони служать Господе́ві, Богові своєму. Чи ти ще не знаєш, що знищений Єгипет?“
Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not realize that Egypt is destroyed?”
І пове́рнено Мойсея та Аарона до фараона, а він їм сказав: „Ідіть, служіть Господе́ві, Богові вашому. Хто та хто пі́де?“
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the LORD your God! Who are the ones that are going?”
І відповів Мойсей: „Ми пі́демо з мо́лоддю нашою та з старими нашими, з синами нашими та з дочками нашими, з дрібною нашою худобою та з великою нашою худобою пі́демо, — бо в нас свято Господнє“.
Moses said, “We shall go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we shall go, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.”
А він відказав: „Нехай буде так Господь із вами, як я відпущу́ вас і дітей ваших! Та глядіть, бо щось лихе перед вами.
Then he said to them, “Thus may the LORD be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Take heed, for evil is in your mind.
Тож нехай ідуть самі чоловіки, та й служіть Господе́ві, бо того ви бажаєте“. І вигнано їх від лиця фараонового.
“Not so! Go now, the men among you, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desire.” So they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Простягни свою руку на єгипетську землю сарано́ю, і нехай вона на́йде на єгипетський край, і нехай поїсть усю зе́мну траву, усе, що град позалиша́в“.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt and eat every plant of the land, even all that the hail has left.”
І простяг Мойсей свою па́лицю на єгипетську землю, — і Господь навів схі́дній вітер на землю, ці́лий день той і ці́лу ніч. Настав ранок, — і східній вітер наніс сарани́!
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
І найшла сарана́ на всю єгипетську землю, і залягла́ в усім єгипетськім кра́ї, дуже багато! Перед нею не було́ такої сарани́, як вона, і по ній не бу́де такої!
The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt; they were very numerous. There had never been so many locusts, nor would there be so many again.
І покрила вона поверхню всієї землі, і поте́мніла земля! І поїла вона всю зе́мну траву та ввесь плід де́рева, що град позоста́вив. І не зоста́лось ніякої зелені ані на дереві, ані на польові́й росли́нності в усім єгипетськім кра́ї!
For they covered the surface of the whole land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothing green was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt.
І поспішив фараон покликати Мойсея та Ааро́на, та й сказав: „Згрішив я Господе́ві, Богові вашому, та вам!
Then Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moses and Aaron, and he said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
А тепер пробач же мій гріх тільки цього ра́зу, і помолі́ться до Господа, вашого Бога, — і нехай тільки відве́рне від мене цю смерть!“
“Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and make supplication to the LORD your God, that He would only remove this death from me.”
І він вийшов від фарао́на й молився до Господа.
He went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the LORD.
І поверну́в Господь за́хідній дуже сильний вітер назад, і він поніс сарану́, та й укинув її до Червоного моря. Не позоста́лась жодна сарана́ в усім єгипетськім кра́ї.
So the LORD shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took up the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the territory of Egypt.
Та Господь учинив запеклим фараонове серце, — і він знов не відпустив Ізраїлевих синів.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the sons of Israel go.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Простягни свою руку до неба, — і станеться те́мрява на єгипетській землі, і нехай бу́де те́мрява, щоб відчули її.“
Darkness over the Land
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.”
І простяг Мойсей свою руку до неба, — і ста́лася густа те́мрява по всій єгипетській землі три дні.
So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
Не бачили один о́дного, і ніхто не вставав з свого місця три дні! А Ізраїлевим синам було́ світло в їхніх сади́бах.
They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.
І покликав фараон Мойсея, та й сказав: „Ідіть, служіть Господе́ві! Тільки дрібна ваша худоба та ваша худоба велика нехай позоста́неться. Також дітвора́ ваша нехай іде з вами!“
Then Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, “Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your little ones may go with you.”
Та Мойсей відказав: „Дай в наші руки також жертви та цілопа́лення, і ми спорядимо́ жертву Господе́ві, Богові нашому.
But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice them to the LORD our God.
І також худоба наша піде з нами, — не зоста́неться ані копи́та, бо з нього ми ві́зьмемо на слу́ження Господе́ві, Богові нашому. Бо ми не знаємо, поки прибудемо туди, чим будемо служити Господе́ві“.
“Therefore, our livestock too shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we shall take some of them to serve the LORD our God. And until we arrive there, we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the LORD.”
І вчинив запеклим Господь фараонове серце, і він не хотів відпустити їх.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was not willing to let them go.
І сказав йому фараон: „Іди від мене! Стережися, щоб ти не бачив більше лиця мого, бо того дня, коли побачиш лице моє, ти помреш!“
Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Beware, do not see my face again, for in the day you see my face you shall die!”
