    І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Диви́сь, — Я поставив тебе замість Бога для фараона, а твій брат Аарон буде пророк твій.

    Moses Before Pharaoh

    So the Lord said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

    Ти бу́деш говорити все, що Я накажу́ тобі, а брат твій Аарон буде говорити фараонові, — і нехай він відпустить Ізраїлевих синів з свого кра́ю.

    You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land.

    А Я вчиню́ запеклим фараонове серце, і помно́жу ознаки мої та чуда мої в єгипетськім кра́ї.

    And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.

    І не послухає вас фараон, а Я покладу́ Свою руку на Єгипет, і виведу війська Свої, наро́д Мій, синів Ізраїлевих, з єгипетського кра́ю великими при́судами.

    But Pharaoh will not heed you, so that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My [a]armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

    І пізнають эгиптяни, що Я Госпо́дь, коли простягну Свою ру́ку на Єгипет — і виведу від них Ізраїлевих синів“.

    And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”

    І вчинив Мойсей та Аарон, — як звелів їм Господь, так учинили вони.

    Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the Lord commanded them, so they did.
  • 7
    А Мойсей був віку восьмидесята літ, а Ааро́н восьмидесяти і трьох літ, коли вони говорили до фараона.

    And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.

    І промовив Господь до Мойсея й до Аарона, говорячи:

    Aaron’s Miraculous Rod

    Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
  • 9
    „Коли бу́де до вас говорити фараон, кажучи: Покажіть своє чудо, то скажеш Ааронові: Візьми свою палицю, та й кинь перед лицем фараоновим, — нехай станеться вужем!

    “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ”

    І ввійшов Мойсей та Аарон до фараона, та й вчинили так, як наказав був Господь. І кинув Аарон палицю свою перед лицем фараона й перед його рабами, — і вона стала вужем!

    So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

    І покликав фараон також мудреців та ворожбитів, — і вчинили так само й вони, чарівники́ єгипетські, своїми ча́рами.

    But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the [b]sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their [c]enchantments.

    І кинули кожен палицю свою, — і вони постава́ли вужа́ми. Та Ааронова па́лиця проковтнула палиці їхні.
  • 12
    For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.
  • 13
    Та затверділо фараонове серце, — і він не послухався їх, як говорив був Госпо́дь.

    And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.

    І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Запекле фараонове серце, — він відмовив відпустити наро́д!

    The First Plague: Waters Become Blood

    So the Lord said to Moses: “Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuses to let the people go.

    Піди до фараона рано вранці. Ось він вийде до води, а ти стань навпро́ти нього на бе́резі Річки. А палицю, що була змінена на вужа, ві́зьмеш у свою ру́ку.

    Go to Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the water, and you shall stand by the river’s bank to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand.

    І скажеш йому: „Господь, Бог євреїв, послав мене до те́бе, кажучи: Відпусти Мій наро́д, і нехай вони служать Мені на пустині! Та не послухався ти дотепе́р“.

    And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, “Let My people go, that they may [d]serve Me in the wilderness”; but indeed, until now you would not hear!

    Так сказав Господь: „По цьому пізнаєш, що Я Господь: Ось я вда́рю па́лицею, що в руці моїй, по воді, що в Річці, — і вона змі́ниться на кров!

    Thus says the Lord: “By this you shall know that I am the Lord. Behold, I will strike the waters which are in the river with the rod that is in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood.

    А риба, що в Річці, погине. І засмердиться Річка, і попому́чаться єги́птяни, щоб пити во́ду з Рі́чки!“

    And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will loathe[e] to drink the water of the river.” ’ ”
  • 19
    І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Скажи Ааронові: Візьми свою па́лицю, і простягни́ свою руку над водою єги́птян, над їхніми річка́ми, над їхніми потоками, і над става́ми їхніми, і над кожним водозбором їхнім, — і вони стануть кров'ю. І буде кров по всій єгипетській землі, і в по́суді дерев'янім, і в каміннім.“

    Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.’ ”

    І Мойсей та Аарон зробили так, як наказав був Господь. І підняв він палицю, та й ударив во́ду, що в Річці, на очах фараона й на очах його рабів. І змінилася вся вода, що в Річці, на кров!

    And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

    А риби, що в Річці, погинули. І засмерділася Рі́чка, і не могли єги́птяни пити воду з Річки. І була кров у всім єгипетськім кра́ї.

    The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

    І так само зробили єгипетські чарівники́ своїми ча́рами. І стало запеклим фараонове серце, — і він не послухався їх, як говорив був Господь.

    Then the magicians of Egypt did so with their [f]enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.

    І повернувся фараон, і ввійшов до до́му свого́, і не приклав він свого серця також до цього.

    And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. Neither was his heart moved by this.

    І всі єги́птяни копа́ли біля річки, щоб дістати води до пиття́, бо не могли пити води з річки.

    So all the Egyptians dug all around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the river.

    І минуло сім день по то́му, як Господь ударив річку.

    And seven days passed after the Lord had struck the river.
