Не зави́дуй злим лю́дям, не бажай бути з ними,
Don't Be Envious of Evil Men
Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
бо їхнє серце говорить про зди́рство, а у́ста їхні мовлять про зло.
For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Дім будується мудрістю, і розумом ста́виться міцно.
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
А через пізна́ння кімна́ти напо́внюються усіля́ким має́тком цінни́м та приє́мним.
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Мудрий сильніший від сильного, а люди́на розумна — від повносилого.
A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
Тому́ то провадь війну мудрими ра́дами, бо спасі́ння — в числе́нності ра́дників.
For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety.
Для безумного мудрість за надто висока, — своїх уст не розкриє при брамі.
Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
Хто чини́ти лихе заміря́є, того́ звуть лукавим.
He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
Замір глупо́ти — то гріх, а насмі́шник — оги́да люди́ні.
The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
Якщо ти в день недолі знеси́лився, то мала́ твоя сила.
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
Рятуй узятих на смерть, також тих, хто на стра́чення хи́литься, — хіба не підтри́маєш їх?
If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
Якщо скажеш: „Цього́ ми не знали!“ — чи ж Той, хто серця́ випробо́вує, знати не буде? Він Сторож твоєї душі, і Він знає про це, і пове́рне люди́ні за чином її.
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Їж, си́ну мій, мед, бо він добрий, а мед щільнико́вий — солодкий він на піднебі́нні твоїм, —
My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
отак мудрість пізнай для своєї душі: якщо зна́йдеш її, то ти маєш майбу́тність, і надія твоя не пони́щиться!
So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Не чату́й на поме́шкання праведного, ти безбожнику, не огра́блюй мешка́ння його,
Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
бо праведний сім раз впаде́ — та зведе́ться, а безбожний в погибіль впаде́!
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Не тішся, як ворог твій па́дає, а коли він спіткне́ться, — хай серце твоє не радіє,
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
щоб Господь не побачив, і це не було в Його о́чах лихим, і щоб Він не звернув Свого гніву від нього на тебе!
Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Не пались на злочинців, не заздри безбожним,
Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
бо злому не буде майбу́тности, світильник безбожних погасне.
For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
Бійся, сину мій, Господа та царя́, не водися з непе́вними,
My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
бо погибіль їхня на́гло постане, а біду від обох тих хто знає?
For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
І оце ось походить від мудрих: Звертати увагу в суді́ на обличчя — не добре.

Хто буде казати безбожному: „Праведний ти!“ того проклина́тимуть люди, і гніватись будуть на того наро́ди.
He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
А тим, хто картає його, буде миле оце́, і при́йде на них благослове́ння добра!
But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Мов у губи цілує, хто відповідає правдиве.
Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
Приготуй свою працю надво́рі, й оброби собі поле, а по́тім збудуєш свій дім.
Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
Не будь ложним сві́дком на свого ближнього, і не підгово́рюй уста́ми своїми.
Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
Не кажи: „Як зробив він мені, так зроблю́ я йому, — верну́ люди́ні за чином її!“
Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Я прохо́див край поля люди́ни лінивої, та край виноградника недоу́мкуватого, —
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
і о́сь все воно позаро́стало те́рням, будяка́ми покрита поверхня його, камі́нний же мур його був поруйно́ваний.
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
І бачив я те, і увагу звернув, і взяв я поу́ку собі:
Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
„Ще тро́хи поспа́ти, подріма́ти ще тро́хи, руки трохи зложи́ти, щоб поле́жати, —
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
