„Що, сину мій, і що, сину утро́би моєї, і що, сину обі́тниць моїх?
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
Не давай жінкам сили своєї, ні доріг своїх для руйнува́льниць царів!
Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Не царя́м, Лемуїле, вино, не царям, і на́пій той п'янки́й не князя́м,
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
щоб не впився він та не забув про Зако́на, і щоб не змінив для всіх гно́блених пра́ва!
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Дайте напо́ю п'янко́го тому, хто гине, а вина — гіркоду́хим:
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
він вип'є й забуде за бідність свою, і му́ки своєї вже не пам'ята́тиме!
