Jeremiah’s Call and Commission
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,
що було́ до нього Господнє слово за днів Йосії, Амонового сина, Юдиного царя, тринадцятого року його царюва́ння.
to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
І було воно й за днів Єгоякима, сина Йосіїного, Юдиного царя, аж до кінця одина́дцятого року Седекії, сина Йосіїного, Юдиного царя, аж до ви́ходу Єрусалиму на вигна́ння в п'ятому місяці.
It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
Ще поки тебе вформува́в в утро́бі матерній, Я пізнав був тебе, і ще поки ти вийшов із нутра́, тебе посвятив, дав тебе за пророка наро́дам!
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
And before you were born I consecrated you;

А я відповів: О, Господи, Боже, таж я промовля́ти не вмію, бо я ще юна́к!
Then I said, “Alas, Lord GOD!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.”
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.”
Господь же мені відказав: „Не кажи: „Я юнак“, бо ти пі́деш до всіх, куди тільки пошлю́ Я тебе, і скажеш усе, що тобі накажу́.
But the LORD said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak.
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak.
Не лякайсь перед ними, бо Я бу́ду з тобою, щоб тебе рятува́ти, говорить Господь!
“Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
For I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
І простя́г Господь руку Свою, і доторкну́всь моїх уст та й до мене сказав: Ось Я дав в твої у́ста слова Мої!
Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me,
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
Дивись, — Я сьогодні призна́чив тебе над наро́дами й царствами, щоб вирива́ти та бу́рити, і щоб губити та руйнувати, щоб будувати й насаджувати!
“See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To pluck up and to break down,
To destroy and to overthrow,
To build and to plant.”

І було мені слово Господнє, гово́рячи: Що́ ти бачиш, Єреміє? А я відказав: Я бачу мигдале́ву галу́зку.
The Almond Rod and Boiling Pot
The word of the LORD came to me saying, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” And I said, “I see a rod of an almond tree.”
І сказав мені Господь: Ти добре бачиш, бо Я пильную Свого слова, щоб спра́вдилось воно.
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.”
І було мені слово Господнє подруге таке: Що́ ти бачиш? А я відказав: Я бачу кипля́че горня́, а пе́ред його зве́рнений з пі́вночі на південь.
The word of the LORD came to me a second time saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.”
І сказав мені Господь: З пі́вночі відкриється зло на всіх ме́шканців землі.
Then the LORD said to me, “Out of the north the evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.
Бо ось Я покличу всі роди́ни царств на пі́вночі, — говорить Господь, — і вони поприхо́дять, і поставлять кожен свого трона при вході до єрусалимських брам, і навколо при всіх мурах його та при всіх юдиних міста́х.
“For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and they will set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the cities of Judah.
І бу́ду суди́тися з ними за всю їхню безбожність, що вони покинули Мене, і кадили іншим бога́м, і вклонялись чина́м своїх рук.
“I will pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have forsaken Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.
А ти підпе́режеш сте́гна свої та й устанеш, і бу́деш говорити їм усе, що Я накажу́ тобі; не бійся перед ними, щоб Я не злякав тебе перед ними!
“Now, gird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them.
Бо Я ось сьогодні поставив тебе містом тверди́нним, і залізним стовпо́м, і мідяними му́рами проти всієї цієї землі, проти царів Юди, проти його князі́в, проти його священиків та проти наро́ду цієї землі.
“Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land.
