На поча́тку царюва́ння Єгоякима, сина Йосіїного, царя Юдиного, було оце слово від Господа, ка́жучи:
Jeremiah Threatened with Death
In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord:

„Так говорить Господь: Стань на подві́р'ї Господнього дому, і будеш говорити всім Юдиним містам, що прихо́дять на поклі́н до Господнього дому, усі ті слова, що Я наказав був тобі, щоб до них говорити, — не вбав ані сло́ва.
“Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not hold back a word.
Може почують вони, і ве́рнуться кожен зо своєї злої дороги, й Я пожалую щодо зла, яке ду́маю вчинити їм через злі їхні вчи́нки!
It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds.
І скажеш до них: Так говорить Господь: Якщо ви не бу́дете прислу́хуватися до Мене, щоб ходити за Зако́ном Моїм, якого Я дав вам,
You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law that I have set before you,
щоб прислу́хуватися до слів Моїх рабів пророків, яких Я посилаю до вас рано та пізно, та не слу́хали ви,
and to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently, though you have not listened,
то вчиню́ з оцим домом, як з Шіло́, а місто це дам на прокля́ття для всіх наро́дів землі“.
then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse for all the nations of the earth.’”
І чули священики, і пророки, і ввесь наро́д Єремію, що говорив ці слова в Господньому домі.
The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.
І сталося, як Єремія закінчи́в говорити все, що наказав був Господь сказати до всього наро́ду, то схопи́ли його священики, і пророки, і ввесь наро́д, говорячи: „Ти конче помреш!
And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die!
На́що пророкував ти Господнім Ім'я́м, кажучи: Як Шіло́, буде дім цей, а місто це буде зруйно́ване, так що не буде в ньому ме́шканця?“ І зібрався ввесь народ проти Єремії в Господньому домі.
Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
І почули ці слова Юдині князі, і відійшли з царсько́го дому до дому Господнього, і сіли при вході до ново́ї Господньої брами.
When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and took their seat in the entry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord.
І сказали священики та пророки до князі́в та до всього народу, говорячи: „Присуд смерти цьому́ чоловікові, бо він пророкував проти цього міста, як ви чули своїми ву́хами!“
Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, “This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”
І сказав Єремія до всіх князі́в і до всього наро́ду, говорячи: „Господь послав мене пророкувати проти цього дому, і проти цього міста всі ті слова́, що ви чули.
Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard.
А тепер поліпші́ть ваші доро́ги та ваші чи́ни, і слухайтеся голосу Господа, вашого Бога, то пожалує Господь щодо зла, яке говорив був на вас.
Now therefore mend your ways and your deeds, and obey the voice of the Lord your God, and the Lord will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.
А я — ось я в вашій руці: робіть мені як добре, і як правдиве в ваших оча́х!
But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you.
Тільки справді пізна́єте ви, якщо ви вб'єте мене, що ви невинну кров спрова́дите на себе й на це місто та на ме́шканців його, бо Господь справді послав мене до вас говорити в ваші ву́ха всі ці слова́.“
Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
І сказали князі та ввесь наро́д до священиків та до пророків: „Цей чоловік не підлягає присуду смерти, бо він говорив до нас Ім'я́м Господа, нашого Бога!“
Jeremiah Spared from Death
Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

І встали люди зо старши́х кра́ю, і сказали до всього збору наро́ду, гово́рячи:
And certain of the elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying,
„Міхей з Мораші пророкував за днів Єзекії, царя Юдиного, і сказав до всьо́го юдейського наро́ду, говорячи: Так говорить Господь Саваот: Сіон, як те поле, зао́раний буде, а Єрусалим за румо́вища стане, а гора цього храму — підгі́рками лісу.
“Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts,
“‘Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’
“‘Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’
Чи справді забив його Єзекія, цар Юдин, та ввесь Юда? Чи ж він не побоявся Господа, і не зла́годив Господнього лиця? І Господь пожалував щодо того зла, яке говорив був на них. А ми вчинимо таке велике зло на свої душі?
Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”
І також пророкував був Господнім Ім'я́м один чоловік, Урі́йя, син Шемаї, з Кір'ят-Єаріму, і пророкував проти цього міста та проти цього кра́ю всі ті слова́, як Єремія.
There was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah.
І почув був слова́ його цар Єгояким, і всі ли́царі його та всі князі́; і шукав цар способу забити його. І почув це Урійя, і злякався, й утік, і прийшов до Єгипту.
And when King Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt.
I послав цар Єгояким людей до Єгипту, — Елнатана, Ахборового сина, і людей з ним до Єгипту.
Then King Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, Elnathan the son of Achbor and others with him,
І вони ви́вели Урійю з Єгипту, і привели́ його до царя Єгоякима, а той ударив його мечем, а трупа його кинув до гробі́в про́стих людей“.
and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, who struck him down with the sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.
