Jeremiah Buys a Field During the Siege
The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

А тоді військо вавилонського царя обляга́ло Єрусалим, а пророк Єремія був ув'я́знений в подві́р'ї в'язни́ці, що була при домі царя Юдиного,
At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah.
що ув'язни́в його Седекія, цар Юдин, говорячи: „На́що ти пророкуєш отак: Так говорить Господь: Ось Я ви́дам це місто в руку вавилонського царя, — і він здобу́де його.
For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, “Why do you prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it;
А Седекія, цар Юдин, не втече́ від руки халдеїв, бо конче буде він даний в руку вавилонського царя́, і будуть говорити уста́ його з його устами, а очі його будуть бачити очі його.
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
І заведе́ він Седекію до Вавилону, і він буде там, аж поки Я відві́даю його, говорить Господь. Коли ж будете воювати з халдеями, не пощасти́ться вам“.
And he shall take Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall remain until I visit him, declares the Lord. Though you fight against the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed’?”
А Єремія відказав: „Було мені слово Господнє таке:
Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me:
Ось Ганамеїл, син Шаллума, твого дя́дька, іде до тебе сказати: Купи собі моє поле, що в Анатоті, бо ти маєш викупне́ право купити.
Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.’
І прийшов до мене Ганамеїл, син дядька мого, за Господнім словом, до подві́р'я в'язни́ці, та й сказав мені: Купи моє поле, що в Анатоті, що в Веніяминовому краї, бо твоє право спа́дщини й твій викуп, — купи собі! І пізнав я, що це слово Господнє.
Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.
І купив я це поле від Ганамеїла, сина дядька мого, що в Анатоті, і відважив йому десять і сім ше́клів срібла.
“And I bought the field at Anathoth from Hanamel my cousin, and weighed out the money to him, seventeen shekels of silver.
І написав я ку́пчу, і запечатав, і засві́дчив сві́дками, та й зважив срібло вагою.
I signed the deed, sealed it, got witnesses, and weighed the money on scales.
І взяв я ку́пчого листа запеча́таного, за зако́ном та уста́вами, і відкритого.
Then I took the sealed deed of purchase, containing the terms and conditions and the open copy.
І дав я ку́пчого листа Барухові, синові Нерійї, Махсеїного сина, на очах сина дядька мого Ганамеїла та на очах свідків, що написані в купчому листі, на очах усіх юдеїв, що сиділи в подвір'ї в'язниці.
And I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my cousin, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Judeans who were sitting in the court of the guard.
Так говорить Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Візьми ці листи, цього ку́пчого листа, — і запеча́таного, і того листа відкритого, — і даси його в гли́няний по́суд, щоб заховались на довгий час.
‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware vessel, that they may last for a long time.
Бо так промовляє Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Ще будуть купуватися доми́ та поля й виноградники в цьому Кра́ї!
For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.’
І молився я до Господа пото́му, як дав був ку́пчого листа Барухові, Нерейїному синові, промовляючи:
Jeremiah Prays for Understanding
“After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying:

О Господи, Боже! Ти небо та землю створив Своєю поту́жною силою та Своїм ви́тягненим раме́ном, — нічо́го для Тебе нема неможли́вого!
‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.
Милість Ти тисячам чи́ниш, і за провину батькі́в після них віддаєш в лоно їхніх синів, Боже великий та могу́тній, Госпо́дь Савао́т Йому Йме́ння!
You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts,
Великий в пораді й могу́тній у чи́нах, що очі Твої відкриті на всі доро́ги лю́дських синів, щоб кожному дати згідно з його доро́гою та згідно з плодо́м його чи́нів,
great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
що знаки та чу́да чинив Ти в єги́петськім кра́ї, і чиниш їх аж по цей день, і між Ізраїлем, і між наро́дом, і зробив Собі Йме́ння, як цього дня!
You have shown signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and to this day in Israel and among all mankind, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day.
І Ти вивів наро́д Свій Ізраїля з кра́ю єгипетського зна́ками та чу́дами, і рукою поту́жною, і раме́ном ви́тягненим та стра́хом великим.
You brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and outstretched arm, and with great terror.
І дав Ти їм край цей, який їхнім батька́м заприсяг був, щоб дати їм край цей, що тече молоком він та медом.
And you gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.
І прийшли, і посіли його, та не слухалися Твого голосу, і Зако́ном Твоїм не ходили; усього, що Ти наказав їм робити, вони не робили, і Ти вчинив, що спітка́ло їх все оце лихо.
And they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey your voice or walk in your law. They did nothing of all you commanded them to do. Therefore you have made all this disaster come upon them.
Ось дохо́дять до міста вали́, щоб здобути його, й місто ві́ддане бу́де у руку халдеїв, що воюють із ним, через меч, і голод, і морови́цю. І що говорив Ти, стається, і ось Ти це бачиш.
Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you spoke has come to pass, and behold, you see it.
А Ти ж був сказав мені, Господи Боже: Купи собі поле за срі́бло, і засвідч купі́влю свідками, ось місто ві́ддане бу́де у руку халдеїв“.
Yet you, O Lord God, have said to me, “Buy the field for money and get witnesses” — though the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.’”
„Ось Я — Господь, Бог кожного тіла: чи для Мене є що́сь неможли́ве?
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?
Тому так промовляє Госпо́дь: Ось Я віддам оце місто у руку халдеїв і в руку Навуходоно́сора, царя вавилонського, — і він здобу́де його!
Therefore, thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall capture it.
І при́йдуть халдеї, що воюють з цим містом, і підпа́лять це місто огнем, та й спа́лять його й ті доми́, що прино́сились жертви Ваалові на їхніх даха́х, і лили́ся литі жертви для інших богів, щоб Мене прогніви́ти.
The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city shall come and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs offerings have been made to Baal and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
Бо сини Ізраїлеві та сини Юдині тільки зло учиня́ли на о́чах Моїх від юна́цтва свого́, сини бо Ізраїлеві лиш гніви́ли Мене чином рук своїх, ка́же Господь.
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth. The children of Israel have done nothing but provoke me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the Lord.
Бо місто це стало Мені на Мій гнів та на лю́тість Мою з того дня, як його збудува́ли, та аж до дня цього, щоб відкинути його від Мого лиця
This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight
за все те зло синів Ізраїлевих та синів Юдиних, яке учини́ли, щоб гніви́ти Мене, — вони, їхні царі, князі́, їхні священики й їхні пророки, і юде́яни й ме́шканці Єрусалиму.
because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah that they did to provoke me to anger — their kings and their officials, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
І вони оберну́лись до Мене поти́лицею, а не обличчям, хоч Я їх навчав рано й пізно, — та не слухалися, щоб прийняти науку.
They have turned to me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them persistently, they have not listened to receive instruction.
І поклали гидо́ти свої в тому храмі, в якому Ім'я́ Моє кли́калося, щоб його занечи́стити.
They set up their abominations in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.
І побудували жерто́вні пагі́рки Ваалові, що в долині Бен-Гіннома, щоб через огонь перево́дити синів своїх та своїх до́чок Молохові, чого їм не наказував Я, й що не вхо́дило в серце Мені, щоб чинити ту гидо́ту, щоб уводити Юду у гріх.
They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
Тому так промовляє Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, до міста цього, про яке ви говорите: Воно ві́ддане буде у руку царя вавилонського мече́м, і голодом, і морови́цею:
They Shall Be My People; I Will Be Their God
“Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence’:
“Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence’:
Ось Я їх позбираю зо всіх тих країв, куди ви́гнав був їх Своїм гнівом та люттю Своєю й великим Своїм пересе́рдям, і верну́ їх до місця цього́, і посаджу́ їх безпе́чно, —
Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety.
і вони Мені стануть наро́дом, а Я буду їм Богом!
And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
І дам Я їм серце одне та дорогу одну, щоб боялись Мене по всі дні на добро́ собі й синам їхнім по них.
I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.
І складу́ з ними вічного заповіта, що не відверну́ся від них, щоб їм не чинити Свого добра, і дам їм у серце Свій страх, щоб не відступали від Мене!
I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.
І буду Я ті́шитись ними, щоб чинити їм добро, і їх посаджу́ на землі цій у правді усім Своїм серцем та всією душею Своєю.
I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.
Бо так промовляє Господь: Як спрова́див був Я все велике це зло на наро́д цей, так спрова́джу на них все добро, яке провіща́в Я про них!
“For thus says the Lord: Just as I have brought all this great disaster upon this people, so I will bring upon them all the good that I promise them.
І купуватимуть поле в цім кра́ї, про якого ви кажете: „Він — спусто́шення, так що немає люди́ни й скотини, він ві́дданий в руку халдеїв“.
Fields shall be bought in this land of which you are saying, ‘It is a desolation, without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’
І бу́дуть вони купувати поля́ за срібло́, і писати про це у листі, й запеча́тувати, і сві́дчити сві́дками, у краї Веніяминовому та в околицях Єрусалиму, і в містах Юдиних, і в містах гірськи́х, і в містах до́лішніх, і в містах півде́нних, — бо верну́ їх із поло́ну, говорить Господь!“
Fields shall be bought for money, and deeds shall be signed and sealed and witnessed, in the land of Benjamin, in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb; for I will restore their fortunes, declares the Lord.”
