    A Message about Babylon

    The LORD gave Jeremiah the prophet this message concerning Babylon and the land of the Babylonians.a
  • 2
    „Звістіть між наро́дами й розголосі́ть, підійміте прапора та розголосіть, не затайте, скажіть: Здобутий уже Вавило́н, засоро́млений Бел, зламаний Меродах, бовва́ни його посоро́млені, порозби́вані всі його бо́жища!

    This is what the LORD says:
    “Tell the whole world,
    and keep nothing back.
    Raise a signal flag
    to tell everyone that Babylon will fall!
    Her images and idolsb will be shattered.
    Her gods Bel and Marduk will be utterly disgraced.

    Бо на нього із пі́вночі вийшов наро́д, що обе́рне в спусто́шення землю його, і не буде мешка́нця у нім: від люди́ни та аж до скотини, усі помандрують та пі́дуть!

    For a nation will attack her from the north
    and bring such destruction that no one will live there again.
    Everything will be gone;
    both people and animals will flee.
    Hope for Israel and Judah

    За тих днів і того ча́су, — говорить Господь, — поприхо́дять сини Ізраїлеві, ра́зом вони й сини Юди, — усе пла́чучи, будуть ходити та Господа, Бога свого шукати.

    “In those coming days,”
    says the LORD,
    “the people of Israel will return home
    together with the people of Judah.
    They will come weeping
    and seeking the LORD their God.

    Вони будуть питати про Сіона, куди їхні обличчя пове́рнені, — щоб прийти й прилучитись до Господа вічним заповітом, який не забу́деться!

    They will ask the way to Jerusalemc
    and will start back home again.
    They will bind themselves to the LORD
    with an eternal covenant that will never be forgotten.

    Мій наро́д — це отара загинула: па́стирі їхні вчинили блудя́чими їх, їх загнали на го́ри, й ходили вони від гори до підгі́р'я, забули про ложе своє.

    “My people have been lost sheep.
    Their shepherds have led them astray
    and turned them loose in the mountains.
    They have lost their way
    and can’t remember how to get back to the sheepfold.

    Усі, що знахо́дили їх, жерли їх, і противники їхні говорили: „Не зави́нимо за те, бо вони прогріши́лися Господу, Пасо́виську правди й надії батькі́в їхніх, — Господе́ві“.

    All who found them devoured them.
    Their enemies said,
    ‘We did nothing wrong in attacking them,
    for they sinned against the LORD,
    their true place of rest,
    and the hope of their ancestors.’

    Біжіть з Вавило́ну, і вихо́дьте із кра́ю халдеїв, і будьте, як козля́та ті перед ота́рою!

    “But now, flee from Babylon!
    Leave the land of the Babylonians.
    Like male goats at the head of the flock,
    lead my people home again.

    Бо ось Я позбу́джую, і на Вавило́н наведу́ збір великих наро́дів з півні́чного кра́ю, і вони проти нього шику́ються, — звідти здобу́тий він бу́де! Його стрі́ли, мов ли́цар, якому щасти́ть, — не верта́ються да́рмо,

    For I am raising up an army
    of great nations from the north.
    They will join forces to attack Babylon,
    and she will be captured.
    The enemies’ arrows will go straight to the mark;
    they will not miss!

    Babyloniad will be looted
    until the attackers are glutted with loot.

    Бо радієте ви, бо втішаєтесь ви, що спа́дщину Мою розграбо́вуєте, бо ви скачете, мов те теля по траві, та ірже́те, немов румаки́.

    “You rejoice and are glad,
    you who plundered my chosen people.
    You frisk about like a calf in a meadow
    and neigh like a stallion.

    Збенте́жилася ваша мати занадто, застидалась роди́телька ваша. Оце для наро́дів кінець: пустиня, сухо́земля й степ!

    But your homelande will be overwhelmed
    with shame and disgrace.
    You will become the least of nations —
    a wilderness, a dry and desolate land.
  • 13
    Від Господнього гніву вона незаме́шкана буде та стане спусто́шенням уся. Кожен, хто буде прохо́дити повз Вавило́н, остовпі́є й засви́ще, як побачить усі ці пора́зи його!

    Because of the LORD’s anger,
    Babylon will become a deserted wasteland.
    All who pass by will be horrified
    and will gasp at the destruction they see there.

    Ушику́йтеся на Вавилон навкруги́, всі, хто лука натя́гує! Стріляйте на нього, стріли́ не шкоду́йте, бо він Господе́ві згрішив!

    “Yes, prepare to attack Babylon,
    all you surrounding nations.
    Let your archers shoot at her; spare no arrows.
    For she has sinned against the LORD.
  • 15
    Здійміть крик проти нього навко́ло! Він дав рукупіддатись, стовпи́ його впали, зруйновані мури його, бо це помста Господня. Помстіться над ним: як зробив він — зробіть так йому́!

    Shout war cries against her from every side.
    Look! She surrenders!
    Her walls have fallen.
    It is the LORD’s vengeance,
    so take vengeance on her.
    Do to her as she has done to others!

    Повигублюйте і сівача́ з Вавилону, і того, хто хапа́є серпа́ в часі жнив! Через меч переслі́дника ве́рнуться всі до наро́ду свого́, і кожен до краю свого втече́.

    Take from Babylon all those who plant crops;
    send all the harvesters away.
    Because of the sword of the enemy,
    everyone will run away and rush back to their own lands.
    Hope for God’s People
  • 17
    Ізраїль — вівця́ розпоро́шена, що ле́ви погнали її: перший жер його цар асирі́йський, а останній — цей Навуходоно́сор, цар вавилонський, розтро́щив йому кості.

    “The Israelites are like sheep
    that have been scattered by lions.
    First the king of Assyria ate them up.
    Then King Nebuchadnezzarf of Babylon cracked their bones.”

    Тому так промовляє Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Ось Я покараю царя вавилонського й землю його, як Я покарав був царя асирійського.

    Therefore, this is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies,
    the God of Israel, says:
    “Now I will punish the king of Babylon and his land,
    just as I punished the king of Assyria.

    І верну́ Я Ізраїля на пасови́сько його, і він па́стися буде на Кармелі й Башані, і на горі на Єфремовій та на Ґілеаді душа його си́тою буде.

    And I will bring Israel home again to its own land,
    to feed in the fields of Carmel and Bashan,
    and to be satisfied once more
    in the hill country of Ephraim and Gilead.

    За тих днів й того ча́су — говорить Господь — будуть шукати провину Ізраїлеву, та не буде її, і про́гріхи Юди, одначе не зна́йдені будуть вони, бо проба́чу тому, кого Я позоста́влю!

    In those days,” says the LORD,
    “no sin will be found in Israel or in Judah,
    for I will forgive the remnant I preserve.
    The LORD’s Judgment on Babylon
  • 21
    На край „Чва́рів подвійних“, — на нього піди й на мешка́нців „Пока́рання“! Поруйнуй і прокля́ттям вчини все за ними, — говорить Господь, — і зроби так усе, як тобі наказа́в!

    “Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim
    and against the people of Pekod.
    Pursue, kill, and completely destroyg them,
    as I have commanded you,” says the LORD.

    Гуркіт бо́ю в кра́ю та велике спусто́шення!

    “Let the battle cry be heard in the land,
    a shout of great destruction.

    Як побитий й пола́маний мо́лот всієї землі! Яким жахом зробивсь Вавилон для наро́дів!

    Babylon, the mightiest hammer in all the earth,
    lies broken and shattered.
    Babylon is desolate among the nations!
  • 24
    Я па́стку поставив на тебе, і схо́плений ти, Вавило́не, хоча ти й не знав! Ти зна́йдений й схо́плений був, бо ставав ти на прю проти Господа!

    Listen, Babylon, for I have set a trap for you.
    You are caught, for you have fought against the LORD.
  • 25
    Господь відчинив Своє схо́вище, і вийняв ізвідти знаря́ддя гніву Свого, це бо зайня́ття для Господа, Бога Саваота в халдейському кра́ї.

    The LORD has opened his armory
    and brought out weapons to vent his fury.
    The terror that falls upon the Babylonians
    will be the work of the Sovereign LORD of Heaven’s Armies.

    Ідіть ви на нього із кра́ю землі, відчиніть його клуні, порозкладайте його, як снопи́, і вчиніте закля́ттям його, — хай не буде йому позоста́лого!

    Yes, come against her from distant lands.
    Break open her granaries.
    Crush her walls and houses into heaps of rubble.
    Destroy her completely, and leave nothing!

    Його всіх волів повбива́йте, — хай пі́дуть вони на зарі́з! Горе їм, бо настав їхній день, час наві́щення їх!

    Destroy even her young bulls —
    it will be terrible for them, too!
    Slaughter them all!
    For Babylon’s day of reckoning has come.

    Голос тих, що втікають і рятуються із вавилонського кра́ю, щоб звістити на Сіоні про по́мсту Господа, нашого Бога, про по́мсту за храма Його.

    Listen to the people who have escaped from Babylon,
    as they tell in Jerusalem
    how the LORD our God has taken vengeance
    against those who destroyed his Temple.

    Скличте на Вавилона стрільці́в, усіх, хто лука натя́гує, та́бором станьте при ньому навко́ло, — нехай йому вте́чі не бу́де! Відплаті́те йому згідно з чи́ном його, як зробив він — зробіть так йому́, бо гордим він став проти Господа, проти Святого Ізраїлевого!

    “Send out a call for archers to come to Babylon.
    Surround the city so none can escape.
    Do to her as she has done to others,
    for she has defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.

    Тому то його юнаки́ всі поляжуть на пло́щах його, а військо́ві його того дня всі погинуть, говорить Господь.

    Her young men will fall in the streets and die.
    Her soldiers will all be killed,”
    says the LORD.

    Ось Я проти тебе, о пи́хо, — говорить Господь, Бог Саваот, — бо день твій прийшов, час тебе покарати!

    “See, I am your enemy, you arrogant people,”
    says the Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
    “Your day of reckoning has arrived —
    the day when I will punish you.
  • 32
    І спіткне́ться пиха й упаде́, і не буде того, хто б підні́с її. І огонь по містах його Я запалю́, — і він пожере́ всі довкі́лля його.

    O land of arrogance, you will stumble and fall,
    and no one will raise you up.
    For I will light a fire in the cities of Babylon
    that will burn up everything around them.”

    Так говорить Господь Савао́т: Сини Ізраїлеві й сини Юдині — ра́зом ути́скувані, і всі, що в поло́н їх забрали, тримають їх міцно, не хочуть їх ви́пустити.

    This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says:
    “The people of Israel and Judah have been wronged.
    Their captors hold them and refuse to let them go.

    Але Викупи́тель їх сильний, Господь Саваот — Йому Йме́ння! Він конче розсудить їхню справу, щоб землю вспоко́їти, а вавилонських мешка́нців стриво́жити.

    But the one who redeems them is strong.
    His name is the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
    He will defend them
    and give them rest again in Israel.
    But for the people of Babylon
    there will be no rest!

    Меч на халдеїв, — говорить Господь, — і на мешка́нців Вавилону, і на князі́в його, і на його мудреці́в!
  • 35
    “The sword of destruction will strike the Babylonians,”
    says the LORD.
    “It will strike the people of Babylon —
    her officials and wise men, too.
  • 36
    Меч на ворожби́тів — і безглу́здими стануть, меч на лица́рство його — і вони полякаються!
  • 36
    The sword will strike her wise counselors,
    and they will become fools.
    The sword will strike her mightiest warriors,
    and panic will seize them.
  • 37
    Меч на ко́ні його й на його колесни́ці, та на всю мішани́ну наро́дів, яка серед нього, — і стануть вони як жінки́! Меч на ска́рби його — й пограбо́вані будуть!

    The sword will strike her horses and chariots
    and her allies from other lands,
    and they will all become like women.
    The sword will strike her treasures,
    and they all will be plundered.

    Посу́ха на во́ди його, — й вони повисиха́ють, бо це край божкі́в, і шаліють вони від бовва́нів.

    A droughth will strike her water supply,
    causing it to dry up.
    And why? Because the whole land is filled with idols,
    and the people are madly in love with them.
  • 39
    Тому зві́рі пусти́нні там будуть сидіти з шака́лами, і стру́сі бу́дуть у ньому сидіти, і не бу́де засе́лений він вже навіки, і не буде заме́шканий він з роду в рід.

    “Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas.
    It will be a home for owls.
    Never again will people live there;
    it will lie desolate forever.

    Як Содо́м та Гомо́рру й сусідів її Бог був поруйнував, — говорить Господь, — так ніхто там не буде сидіти, і не буде в нім ме́шкати чужи́нцем син лю́дський!

    I will destroy it as Ii destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah
    and their neighboring towns,” says the LORD.
    “No one will live there;
    no one will inhabit it.
  • 41
    Ось із пі́вночі при́йде наро́д, і люд великий, і числе́нні царі, — вони збу́джені будуть із кі́нців землі:

    “Look! A great army is coming from the north.
    A great nation and many kings
    are rising against you from far-off lands.
  • 42
    Лук та ра́тище міцно тримають, жорсто́кі вони й милосердя не мають, — їхній голос, як море реве́, вони їдуть на ко́нях, — на тебе вони вшикува́лись, як муж на війну, вавилонськая до́чко!

    They are armed with bows and spears.
    They are cruel and show no mercy.
    As they ride forward on horses,
    they sound like a roaring sea.
    They are coming in battle formation,
    planning to destroy you, Babylon.

    Почув цар вавилонський відо́мість про них, — й опусти́лися ру́ки йому́, обхопи́в його страх і тремті́ння, немов породі́ллю!

    The king of Babylon has heard reports about the enemy,
    and he is weak with fright.
    Pangs of anguish have gripped him,
    like those of a woman in labor.
  • 44
    Ось підіймається він, немов лев, із темного лісу Йорда́ну на во́дяні луки, і Я вмент зроблю́, що він побіжить геть від них, а хто ви́браний буде, того Я поставлю над ними! Бо хто є подібний Мені, і хто покличе Мене перед суд, і хто па́стир такий, що перед обличчям Моїм він усто́їть?

    “I will come like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan,
    leaping on the sheep in the pasture.
    I will chase Babylon from its land,
    and I will appoint the leader of my choice.
    For who is like me, and who can challenge me?
    What ruler can oppose my will?”

    Тому то послухайте за́дум Господній, що на Вавилон Він заду́мав, і думки́ Його ті, що на землю халдейську зами́слив: Поправді кажу вам, — найменших з отари потя́гнуть, і попусто́шать пасо́висько їхнє при них!

    Listen to the LORD’s plans against Babylon
    and the land of the Babylonians.
    Even the little children will be dragged off like sheep,
    and their homes will be destroyed.

    Від ро́зголосу про взятття́ Вавилону земля задрижи́ть, і почується крик між наро́дами!

    The earth will shake with the shout, “Babylon has been taken!”
    and its cry of despair will be heard around the world.
