І було́ мені слово Господнє таке:
The Watchman’s Duty
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
„Сину лю́дський, говори синам свого наро́ду, та й скажеш до них: Коли б Я спрова́див на який край меча, і взяв би наро́д цього краю одно́го чоловіка з-поміж себе, і поставив би його собі вартови́м,
“Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, ‘If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman,
і коли б він побачив меча, що йде на цей край, і засурми́в би в сурму́, й остеріг народ,
and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows on the trumpet and warns the people,
і почув би хто голос сурми́, та не був би обере́жний, і прийшов би меч та й захопи́в би його, то кров його на голові його буде!
then he who hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.
Голос сурми́ він чув, та не був обере́жний, — кров його буде на ньому, а він, коли б був обере́жний, урятував би свою душу.
‘He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life.
А той вартови́й, коли б побачив меча, що йде, і не засурми́в би в сурму́, а наро́д не був би обере́жний, і прийшов би меч, і захопи́в би одно́го з них, то він був би узятий за гріх свій, а його кров Я зажадаю з руки вартово́го.
‘But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’
А ти, сину лю́дський, — Я дав тебе вартови́м для Ізраїлевого дому, і ти почуєш з уст Моїх слово, й остереже́ш їх від Мене.
“Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me.
Коли б Я сказав до безбожного: „Безбожнику, ти конче помреш!“, а ти не говорив би, щоб остерегти́ безбожного від дороги його, то він, несправедливий, помре за свій гріх, а його кров Я вимагатиму з твоєї руки.
“When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.
А ти, коли остереже́ш несправедливого від дороги його, щоб вернувся з неї, і він не ве́рнеться з своєї дороги, він помре за гріх свій, а ти душу свою врятува́в.
“But if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life.
А ти, сину лю́дський, скажи до Ізраїлевого дому: „Ви кажете так, говорячи: Коли наші провини та наші гріхи на нас, і через них ми ги́немо, то як бу́демо жити?“
“Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus you have spoken, saying, “Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are rotting away in them; how then can we survive?”’
Скажи їм Як живий Я, — говорить Господь Бог, — не пра́гну смерти несправедливого, а тільки щоб вернути несправедливого з дороги його, і буде він жити! Наверніться, наверніться з ваших злих дорі́г, і на́що вам умирати, доме Ізраїлів?
“Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’
А ти, сину лю́дський, скажи до синів свого народу: Справедливість справедливого — не врятує його в дні гріха́ його, а несправедливість несправедливого — не спіткне́ться він об неї в дні наве́рнення від своєї несправедливости, а справедливий не зможе жити в ній в дні свого гріха́.
“And you, son of man, say to your fellow citizens, ‘The righteousness of a righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his transgression, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not stumble because of it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; whereas a righteous man will not be able to live by his righteousness on the day when he commits sin.’
Коли Я скажу́ справедливому: Буде конче він жити, а він наді́явся б на свою справедливість, та робив би кривду, то вся його справедливість не буде зга́дана, і за кривду свою, що зробив, він помре!
“When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die.
А коли Я скажу́ до несправедливого: Конче помреш ти, а він наве́рнеться від свого гріха́, і робитиме право та справедливість:
“But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and practices justice and righteousness,
заста́ву поверне несправедливий, грабу́нок відшкоду́є, ходитиме уставами життя, щоб не чинити кривди, то конче буде він жити, не помре!
if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes which ensure life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Усі гріхи його, які він нагрішив, не будуть йому зга́дані, — право та справедливість робив він, конче буде він жити!
“None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall surely live.
І кажуть сини твого наро́ду: „Несправедлива Господня дорога!“ тоді як несправедлива їхня власна дорога.
“Yet your fellow citizens say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right,’ when it is their own way that is not right.
Коли справедливий відве́рнеться від своєї справедливости, і робитиме кривду, то помре він за те!
“When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, then he shall die in it.
А коли несправедливий відве́рнеться від своєї несправедливости, і чинитиме право та справедливість, то на них він буде жити!
“But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them.
А ви кажете: Несправедлива Господня дорога! Кожного з вас Я буду судити, Ізраїлів доме, за його доро́гами!“
“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.”
І сталося за дванадцятого року, десятого місяця, п'ятого дня місяця від нашого вигна́ння, прийшов був до мене втіка́ч з Єрусалиму, говорячи: „Побите це місто!“
Word of Jerusalem’s Capture
Now in the twelfth year of our exile, on the fifth of the tenth month, the refugees from Jerusalem came to me, saying, “The city has been taken.”
А Господня рука була прийшла до мене ввечорі перед прихо́дом цього́ втікача́, і Він відкрив мої у́ста, поки прийшов той до мене вранці. І були відкриті мої уста, і не був уже я більше німий!
Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me in the evening, before the refugees came. And He opened my mouth at the time they came to me in the morning; so my mouth was opened and I was no longer speechless.
„Сину лю́дський, ме́шканці цих руїн на Ізраїлевій землі гово́рять так: Авраам був один, та проте́ посів цей край, а нас багато, — нам да́ний цей край на спа́дщину !
“Son of man, they who live in these waste places in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one, yet he possessed the land; so to us who are many the land has been given as a possession.’
Тому́ скажи їм: Так сказав Господь Бог: Ви на крові їсте, а свої очі зво́дите до бовва́нів своїх, і кров пролива́єте, — і цей край пося́дете ви?
“Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “You eat meat with the blood in it, lift up your eyes to your idols as you shed blood. Should you then possess the land?
Ви спира́єтесь на свого меча, робите гидо́ту, і кожен безчестить жінку свого ближнього, — і цей край посядете ви?
“You rely on your sword, you commit abominations and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. Should you then possess the land?”’
Так скажеш до них: Так говорить Господь Бог: Як живий Я, — ті, хто в руїнах, попа́дають від меча, а той, хто на широкім полі, того віддам звірині́, щоб поже́рла його, а ті, хто в тверди́нях та в пече́рах, помруть від морови́ці!
“Thus you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword, and whoever is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of pestilence.
І оберну́ Я цей край на спусто́шення та на сплюндрува́ння, і скінчи́ться пиха́ сили його, і опусто́шіють Ізраїлеві го́ри, так що не буде й перехожого.
“I will make the land a desolation and a waste, and the pride of her power will cease; and the mountains of Israel will be desolate so that no one will pass through.
І пізнають вони, що Я — Господь, коли Я оберну́ цей край на спусто́шення та на сплюндрува́ння за всі їхні гидо́ти, що зробили вони.
“Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I make the land a desolation and a waste because of all their abominations which they have committed.”’
А ти, сину лю́дський, — сини твого наро́ду умовляються про тебе при сті́нах і в две́рях домів, і говорять один з о́дним, кожен зо своїм братом, кажучи: Увійдіть та послу́хайте, що це за слово, що виходить від Господа?
“But as for you, son of man, your fellow citizens who talk about you by the walls and in the doorways of the houses, speak to one another, each to his brother, saying, ‘Come now and hear what the message is which comes forth from the LORD.’
І при́йдуть до тебе, як прихо́дить наро́д, і сядуть перед тобою як Мій наро́д, і послухають твоїх слів, але їх не ви́конають, бо що приємне в устах їхніх, те вони зроблять, а серце їхнє ходить за захла́нністю їхньою.
“They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain.
І ось ти для них, як пісня коха́ння, красноголосий і добрий грач, і вони слухають слова́ твої, але їх не вико́нують!
“Behold, you are to them like a sensual song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not practice them.
