Vision of the Ram and Goat
In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king a vision appeared to me, Daniel, subsequent to the one which appeared to me previously.

І бачив я в видінні, — і сталося в моєму видінні, а я був у тверди́ні Шушані, що в окрузі Еламі, і бачив я в видінні, ніби я був над потоком Ула́й.
I looked in the vision, and while I was looking I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam; and I looked in the vision and I myself was beside the Ulai Canal.
І звів я очі свої та й побачив, аж ось один бара́н стоїть перед потоком, і в нього два ро́ги. А оби́два ці роги високі, і один вищий від другого, а той вищий виріс наостанку.
Then I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a ram which had two horns was standing in front of the canal. Now the two horns were long, but one was longer than the other, with the longer one coming up last.
Я бачив барана́, що колов на за́хід, і на пі́вніч, і на пі́вдень, і жоден звір не міг стати проти нього, і не було ніко́го, хто б урятував від його руки. І він робив за своїм уподо́банням, і став величний.
I saw the ram butting westward, northward, and southward, and no other beasts could stand before him nor was there anyone to rescue from his power, but he did as he pleased and magnified himself.
І я придивлявся, аж ось козел з кіз прихо́дить із за́ходу по поверхні всієї землі, і не дотикається до землі. А той козел мав подобу рога між своїми очима.
While I was observing, behold, a male goat was coming from the west over the surface of the whole earth without touching the ground; and the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes.
І прийшов він до того барана́, що мав ті два ро́ги, якого я бачив, що стояв перед потоком, і помча́в на нього в лютості своєї сили.
He came up to the ram that had the two horns, which I had seen standing in front of the canal, and rushed at him in his mighty wrath.
І я бачив його, що він добіг аж до барана́, і роз'яри́вся на нього, та й ударив того барана́, і зламав йому ті два ро́ги, а в барана́ не було сили стати проти нього. І той кинув його на землю, і потоптав його, і не було ніко́го, хто б ви́рятував барана́ від його руки.
I saw him come beside the ram, and he was enraged at him; and he struck the ram and shattered his two horns, and the ram had no strength to withstand him. So he hurled him to the ground and trampled on him, and there was none to rescue the ram from his power.
А козел з кіз став аж надто великий. А коли він зміцни́вся, то був зла́маний той великий ріг, а замість нього виросли чотири подо́би рога на чотири вітри́ неба.
Then the male goat magnified himself exceedingly. But as soon as he was mighty, the large horn was broken; and in its place there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.
А з одно́го з них вийшов один мали́й ріг, і з мало́го став ду́же великий до пі́вдня, і до схо́ду, і до Пишно́ти.
The Little Horn
Out of one of them came forth a rather small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.
І він побільши́вся аж до ві́йська небесного, і скинув на землю декого з ві́йська, із зір, і потопта́в їх.
It grew up to the host of heaven and caused some of the host and some of the stars to fall to the earth, and it trampled them down.
І він побільши́вся аж до Вождя́ того ві́йська, і від Нього була́ віднята стала жертва, і покинене місце святині Його.
It even magnified itself to be equal with the Commander of the host; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down.
І буде ві́ддане йому ві́йсько враз із щоденною службою через гріхи́, і він кине правду на землю, і зробить, і матиме у́спіх.
And on account of transgression the host will be given over to the horn along with the regular sacrifice; and it will fling truth to the ground and perform its will and prosper.
І почув я одно́го святого, що говорив. А інший святий сказав до того́, що говорив: „Аж до́ки це видіння про сталу жертву та про нищівни́й гріх, до́ки святиня й ві́йсько ві́ддані на топта́ння?“
Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to that particular one who was speaking, “How long will the vision about the regular sacrifice apply, while the transgression causes horror, so as to allow both the holy place and the host to be trampled?”
І відказав він мені: „Аж до двох тисяч і трьох сотень вечорі-вранків, — тоді буде ви́знана очи́щеною святиня“.
He said to me, “For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly restored.”
І сталося, коли я, Даниїл, бачив те видіння, і шукав зна́чення його, ось став передо мною ніби муж.
Interpretation of the Vision
When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one who looked like a man.
І почув я поміж берегами Ула́ю лю́дський голос, що кликнув і сказав: „Гавриїле, виясни йому це виді́ння!“
And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, “Gabriel, give this man an understanding of the vision.”
І він прийшов туди, де я стояв, а коли він прийшов, я настра́шився й упав на обличчя своє. І сказав він мені: „Зрозумій, сину лю́дський, бо на час кінця це видіння!“
So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end.”
А коли він говорив зо мною, я зомлів, і припав своїм обличчям до землі, але він діткну́вся до мене, і поставив мене на моєму місці,
Now while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and made me stand upright.
та й сказав: „Ось я об'являю тобі, що́ буде в кінці́ гніву, бо на кінець призна́ченого ча́су це видіння.
He said, “Behold, I am going to let you know what will occur at the final period of the indignation, for it pertains to the appointed time of the end.
Той баран, якого ти бачив, що мав ті два ро́ги, — це царі мі́дян та пе́рсів.
The Ram’s Identity
“The ram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia.
А козел, той волоха́тий, це цар Греції, а той великий ріг, що між очима його, це перший цар.
The Goat
“The shaggy goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the large horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
А той зла́маний ріг, і що стали на його місці чотири, — це чотири царства постануть із цього наро́ду, але вже не в його силі.
“The broken horn and the four horns that arose in its place represent four kingdoms which will arise from his nation, although not with his power.
А в кінці їхнього царства, коли покінча́ть своє ті грішники, постане цар наха́бний та вправний у пі́дступах.
“In the latter period of their rule,
When the transgressors have run their course,
A king will arise,
Insolent and skilled in intrigue.

І зміцніє його сила, але не його власною силою, і дивно ви́нищить він, і буде мати у́спіх, і ді́ятиме. І винищить він сильних і наро́д святих.
“His power will be mighty, but not by his own power,
And he will destroy to an extraordinary degree
And prosper and perform his will;
He will destroy mighty men and the holy people.
And he will destroy to an extraordinary degree

А через свою мудрість буде мати у́спіх, ома́на буде в його руці, і він звели́читься в своє́му серці. І в часі миру він понищить багатьо́х, і повстане на Влади́ку над владиками, але без руки буде зла́маний.
“And through his shrewdness
He will cause deceit to succeed by his influence;
And he will magnify himself in his heart,
And he will destroy many while they are at ease.
He will even oppose the Prince of princes,
But he will be broken without human agency.

А видіння вечора та ра́нку, про яке було сказано, це правда, та ти сховай це видіння, бо воно відно́ситься на далекі часи́.
“The vision of the evenings and mornings
Which has been told is true;
But keep the vision secret,
For it pertains to many days in the future.”

А я, Даниїл, знемігся й заслаб на кілька днів. І встав я, і робив царе́ву працю, і остовпі́в з того видіння, але ніхто того не завва́жив.“
Then I, Daniel, was exhausted and sick for days. Then I got up again and carried on the king’s business; but I was astounded at the vision, and there was none to explain it.
