And the Canaanite king of Arad, who dwelt in the south, heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim, and he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.

І склав Ізраїль обі́тницю Господе́ві й сказав: „Якщо справді даси Ти наро́д той у мою руку, то я вчиню́ їхні міста закля́ттям“.
Then Israel vowed a vow to Jehovah, and said, If thou give this people wholly into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
І вислухав Господь голос Ізраїлів, — і дав йому ханаане́янина, і він учинив закля́ттям їх та їхні міста, і назвав ім'я́ тому містові: Хорма.
And Jehovah listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them, and their cities. And they called the name of the place Hormah.
І рушили вони з Гор-гори дорогою Червоного моря, щоб обійти едо́мський край. І підупала душа того наро́ду в тій дорозі.
The Bronze Serpent
And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to go round the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became impatient on the way;

І промовляв той народ проти Бога та проти Мойсея: „На́що ви вивели нас із Єгипту, щоб ми повмирали в пустині? Бож нема тут хліба й нема води, а душі нашій обри́дла ця непридатна ї́жа“.
and the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt that we should die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and no water, and our soul loathes this light bread.
І послав Господь на той наро́д зміїв сара́фів, і вони кусали наро́д. І померло багато народу з Ізраїля.
Then Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, which bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
І прийшов народ до Мойсея та й сказав: „Згрішили ми, бо говорили проти Господа та проти тебе. Молися до Господа, і нехай Він забере від нас цих зміїв“. І молився Мойсей за народ.
And the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, in that we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee: pray to Jehovah that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Зроби собі сара́фа, і вистав його на жерди́ні. І станеться, — кожен поку́саний, як погляне на нього, то буде жити“.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Make thee a fiery [serpent], and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, and looketh upon it, shall live.
І зробив Мойсей мідяно́го змія, і виставив його на жерди́ні. І сталося, якщо змій покусав кого, то той дивився на мідяно́го змія — і жив!
And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole; and it came to pass, if a serpent had bitten any man, and he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
І рушили Ізраїлеві сини, і таборува́ли в Овоті.
The Journey to Moab
And the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in Oboth.

І рушили вони з Овоту, і таборува́ли в Ійє-Гааварімі, на пустині, що перед Моавом, від схо́ду сонця.
And they removed from Oboth, and encamped at Ijim-Abarim, in the wilderness that is before Moab, toward the sun-rising.
Звідти вони рушили, і таборува́ли в долині Зереду.
From thence they removed, and encamped at the torrent Zered.
Звідти рушили й таборували на тім боці Арнону в пустині, що виходить із аморейської границі, бо Арнон — границя Моаву між Моавом та аморе́янином.
From thence they removed, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites. For the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Тому розповідається в „Книжці воєн Господніх“: „Вагев у Суфі, і потоки Арнону,
Therefore it is said in the book of the wars of Jehovah, Vaheb in Suphah, and the brooks of Arnon;
і спад потоків, що збо́чив на місце Ару, і на моавську границю опертий“.
And the stream of the brooks which turneth to the dwelling of Ar, And inclineth toward the border of Moab.
А звідти до Бееру. Це той Беер, що про нього сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Збери наро́д, і нехай Я дам їм воду“.
And from thence to Beer: that is the well of which Jehovah spoke to Moses, Assemble the people, and I will give them water.
Тоді заспівав був Ізраїль цю пісню: „Піднесися, крини́це, співайте про неї!
Then Israel sang this song, Rise up, well! sing unto it:
Криниця, — вельмо́жі копали її, її викопали наро́дні достойники бе́рлом, жезла́ми своїми“. А з Мідбару до Маттани,
Well which princes digged, which the nobles of the people hollowed out at [the word of] the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness [they went] to Mattanah;
а з Маттани до Нахаліїлу, а з Нахаліїлу до Бамоту,
and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;
а з Бамоту до долини, що на моавському полі, у верхівки Пісґі, що зве́рнена до пустині.
and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the fields of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks over the surface of the waste.
І послав Ізраїль послів до Сигона аморе́йського царя, говорячи:
The Defeat of Sihon
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

„Нехай я перейду́ в твоїм краї! Ми не збочимо ні на поле, ні на виноградник, не будемо пити води з криниці, — ми підемо царсько́ю дорогою, аж поки пере́йдемо землю твою“.
Let us pass through thy land; we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink water out of the wells; on the king's road will we go until we have passed thy border.
І не дав Сиго́н Ізраїлеві перейти в границі його. І зібрав Сигон увесь свій народ, та й вийшов навпроти Ізраїля на пустині, і прибув до Йогці, і воював з Ізраїлем.
But Sihon would not suffer Israel to go through his border; and Sihon gathered all his people, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
І вдарив його Ізраїль ві́стрям меча, і посів край його від Арнону аж до Яббоку, аж до синів Аммону, бо Аз — границя синів Аммону.
And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
І позабирав Ізраїль усі ті міста́. І осів Ізраїль у всіх аморейських містах: у Хешбоні й по всіх залежних містах його.
And Israel took all these cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, at Heshbon, and in all its dependent villages.
Бо Хешбо́н — місто Сигона, царя аморейського він; і він воював з першим моавським царем, і забрав увесь його край з його руки аж до Арнону.
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites; and he had fought against the former king of Moab, and had taken all his land out of his hand, even unto the Arnon.
Тому й розповідають кобзарі: „Підіть до Хешбо́ну, — нехай він збуду́ється, і хай міцно поставиться місто Сиго́нове.
Therefore the poets say, Come to Heshbon; let the city of Sihon be built and established.
Бо вийшов огонь із Хешбо́ну, а по́лум'я з міста Сигонового, — він місто моавське пожер, волода́рів арнонських висот.
For there went forth fire from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; It consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of the Arnon.
Горе тобі, о Моаве, ти згинув, наро́де Кемо́шів! Він зробив був синів своїх утікача́ми, а дочок своїх дав у неволю Сигону, царю аморейському.
Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, people of Chemosh: He gave his sons that had escaped, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon the king of the Amorites.
I розбили ми їх, — згинув Хешбон до Дівону, і ми попусто́шили аж до Нофаху, що аж до Медви́“.
And we have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon; and we have laid [them] waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
І Ізраїль осів в аморейському краї.
The Defeat of Og
And Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
And Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
І послав Мойсей розвідати про Язера, — і вони здобули́ його залежні міста, і заволоділи аморе́янином, що жив там.
And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took its dependent villages, and he dispossessed the Amorites that were there.
І повернулись вони, і пішли доро́гою Башану. І вийшов Оґ, цар баша́нський, насупроти них, він та ввесь його народ, на війну до Едреї.
And they turned and went up by the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, for battle to Edrei.
І сказав Господь до Мойсея: „Не бійся його, бо в руку твою дав Я його й увесь народ його та край його, і зробиш йому, як зробив ти Сигону, цареві аморейському, що сидів у Хешбоні.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Fear him not! for into thy hand have I given him, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.
