The Parable of the Ten Virgins
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Нерозумні ж, узявши каганці́, не взяли́ із собою оливи.
The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
А мудрі набрали оливи в посудинки ра́зом із своїми каганця́ми.
The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
А коли забари́всь молодий, то всі задрімали й поснули.
The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
А опі́вночі крик залуна́в: „Ось молодий, — виходьте назу́стріч!“
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
Схопи́лись тоді всі ті діви, і каганці́ свої наготува́ли.
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
Нерозумні ж сказали до мудрих: „Дайте нам із своєї оливи, бо наші каганці́ ось гаснуть“.
The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
Мудрі ж відповіли та сказали: „Щоб, бува, нам і вам не забракло, — краще вдайтеся до продавців, і купіть собі“.
“ ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
І як вони купувати пішли, то прибув молодий; і готові ввійшли на весі́лля з ним, — і за́мкнені двері були́.
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
А по́тім прийшла й решта дів і казала: „Пане, пане, — відчини нам!“
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
Він же в відповідь їм проказав: „Поправді кажу вам, — не знаю я вас!“
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
Тож пильнуйте, бо не знаєте ні дня, ні години, коли при́йде Син Лю́дський!
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Так само ж один чоловік, як відходив, покликав своїх рабів і передав їм добро своє.
The Parable of the Bags of Gold
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
І одно́му він дав п'ять талантів, а другому два, а тому один, — кожному за спромо́жністю його. І відійшов.
А той, що взяв п'ять талантів, негайно пішов і орудував ними, — і набув він п'ять і́нших талантів.
The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.
Так само ж і той, що взяв два — і він ще два і́нших набув.
So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
А той, що одно́го взя́в, пішов та й закопав його в землю, — і сховав срі́бло пана свого.
But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
По довгому ж часі вернувся пан тих рабів, та й від них зажадав обрахунку.
“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
І прийшов той, що взяв п'ять талантів, — приніс іще п'ять талантів і сказав: „Пане мій, п'ять талантів мені передав ти, — ось я здобу́в інші п'ять талантів“.
The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
Сказав же йому його пан: „Гаразд, рабе добрий і вірний! Ти в мало́му був вірний, над великим поставлю тебе, — увійди до радощів пана свого!“
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
Підійшов же й той, що взяв два таланти, і сказав: „Два таланти мені передав ти, — ось іще два тала́нти здобу́в я“.
“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
Сказав йому пан його: „Гаразд, рабе добрий і вірний! Ти в мало́му був вірний, над великим поставлю тебе, — увійди до радощів пана свого!“
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
Підійшов же і той, що одного таланта взяв, і сказав: „Я знав тебе, па́не, що тверда́ ти люди́на, — ти жнеш, де не сіяв, і збираєш, де не розси́пав.
“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
І я побоявся, — пішов і таланта твого сховав у землю. Ото маєш своє“.
So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
І відповів його пан і сказав йому: „Рабе лукавий і лінивий! Ти знав, що я жну, де не сіяв, і збираю, де не розси́пав?
“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
Тож тобі було треба віддати гроші мої грошомінам, і, вернувшись, я взяв би з прибу́тком своє.
Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
Візьміть же від нього таланта, і віддайте тому́, що десять талантів він має.
“ ‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.
Бо кожному, хто має, дасться йому та й додасться, хто ж не має, — забереться від нього й те, що він має.
For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
А раба непотрібного вкиньте до зо́внішньої темряви, — буде плач там і скрегіт зубів!
And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Коли ж при́йде Син Лю́дський у славі Своїй, і всі анголи́ з Ним, тоді Він засяде на престолі слави Своєї.
The Sheep and the Goats
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
І перед Ним усі наро́ди зберуться, і Він відді́лить одного від о́дного їх, як відділя́є вівчар овець від козлів.
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
І поставить Він вівці право́руч Себе, а козлята — ліво́руч.
He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Тоді скаже Цар тим, хто право́руч Його: „Прийдіть, благословенні Мого Отця, посядьте Царство, уготоване вам від закла́дин світу.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
Бо Я голодував був — і ви нагодували Мене, пра́гнув — і ви напоїли Мене, мандрівником Я був — і Мене прийняли́ ви.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
Був наги́й — і Мене зодягли ви, слабував — і Мене ви відвідали, у в'язни́ці Я був — і прийшли ви до Мене“.
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Тоді відповідя́ть Йому праведні й скажуть: „Господи, коли то Тебе ми голодного бачили — і нагодували, або спрагненого — і напоїли?
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
Коли то Тебе мандрівником ми бачили — і прийняли́, чи наги́м — і зодягли?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
Коли то Тебе ми недужого бачили, чи в в'язниці — і до Тебе прийшли?“
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
Цар відповість і промовить до них: „Поправді кажу́ вам: що́ тільки вчинили ви одно́му з найменших братів Моїх цих, — те Мені ви вчинили“.
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Тоді скаже й тим, хто ліво́руч: „Ідіть ви від Мене, прокля́ті, у вічний огонь, що дияволові та його посланця́м пригото́ваний.
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Бо Я голодував був — і не нагодували Мене, пра́гнув — і ви не напоїли Мене,
For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
мандрівником Я був — і не прийняли́ ви Мене, був наги́й — і не зодягли ви Мене, слабий і в в'язниці — і Мене не відвідали ви“.
I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
Тоді відповідять і вони, промовляючи: „Господи, коли то Тебе ми голодного бачили, або спра́гненого, або мандрівником, чи наго́го, чи недужого, чи в в'язниці — і не послужили Тобі?“
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
Тоді Він відповість їм і скаже: „Поправді кажу вам: чого тільки одному з найменших цих ви не вчинили, — Мені не вчинили!“
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
