Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Як служили ж вони Господе́ві та по́стили, прорік Святий Дух: „Відділіть Варнаву та Са́вла для Мене на справу, до якої покликав Я їх!“
While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
Тоді, попо́стивши та помолившись, вони руки поклали на них, і відпустили.
Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
Вони ж, послані бувши від Духа Святого, прийшли в Селевкі́ю, а звідти до Кіпру відпли́нули.
So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
Як були ж в Саламі́ні, то звіщали вони Слово Боже по синагогах юдейських; до по́слуг же мали й Івана.
When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.
А коли перейшли аж до Па́фи ввесь о́стрів, то знайшли ворожби́та одно́го, лжепророка юде́янина, йому на ім'я́ Варісу́с.
When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus,
Він був при проко́нсулі Сергії Па́влі, чоловіку розумнім. Той закликав Варнаву та Са́вла, і прагнув послухати Божого Слова.
who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
Але їм опирався Елі́ма ворожби́т той, — бо ім'я́ його перекладається так, — і намагавсь відвернути від віри проко́нсула.
But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
Але Савл, що й Павло він, перепо́внився Духом Святим і на нього споглянув,
But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him,
і промовив: „О сину дияволів, повний всякого пі́дступу та всілякої злости, ти во́рогу всякої правди! Чи не перестанеш ти плутати про́стих Господніх доріг?
and said, “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?
І тепер ось на тебе Господня рука, — ти станеш сліпий, і сонця бачити не будеш до ча́су!“ І миттю обняв того мо́рок та те́мрява, і став він ходити навпо́мацки та шукати повода́тора.
“Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.” And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand.
Тоді той проко́нсул, як побачив, що́ сталося, увірував, і дивувався науці Господній!
Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.
І, як від Па́фа Павло й ті, хто з ним був, відпливли́, то вони прибули́ в Памфілійську Пергі́ю. А Іван, відлучившись від них, повернувся до Єрусалиму.
Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but John left them and returned to Jerusalem.
А вони, пішовши з Пергії, прийшли до Пісідійської Антіохії, і дня суботнього до синагоги ввійшли й посідали.
But going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.
А по відчита́нні Зако́ну й Пророків, старші́ синагоги послали до них, переказуючи: „Мужі-браття, якщо маєте слово потіхи для люду, промовте!“
After the reading of the Law and the Prophets the synagogue officials sent to them, saying, “Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it.”
Тоді Павло встав, і давши знака рукою, промовив: „Послухайте, мужі ізра́їльтяни, та ви, богобійні!
Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said,
“Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:
“Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:
Бог цих Ізраїлевих людей вибрав Собі отців наших, і підвищив наро́д, як він перебува́в у єгипетськім кра́ї, і рукою поту́жною вивів їх із нього,
“The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He led them out from it.
і літ із сорок Він їх годував у пустині,
“For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.
а вигубивши сім наро́дів в землі ханаа́нській, поділив жеребко́м їхню землю між ними,
“When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land as an inheritance — all of which took about four hundred and fifty years.
ма́йже що по чотириста й п'ятидесяти ро́ках. Після того аж до Самуїла пророка Він їм суддів дава́в.
“After these things He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
А потім забажали царя, і Бог дав їм Сау́ла, сина Кі́сового, мужа з Веніями́нового племени, на чотири десятки років.
“Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
А його віддаливши, поставив царем їм Дави́да, про якого й сказав, засвідчуючи: „Знайшов Я Давида, сина Єссе́євого, чоловіка за серцем Свої́м, що всю волю Мою він виконувати бу́де“.
“After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.’
За обітницею, із його насіння підняв Бог Ісуса, як спасі́ння Ізраїлеві,
“From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,
як Іван — перед самим прихо́дом Його — усьо́му наро́дові Ізраїлевому проповідував хрищення на покая́ння.
after John had proclaimed before His coming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
А коли свою путь Іван виконав, то він промовляв: „Я не Той, за Кого́ ви мене вважаєте, але йде он за мною, що Йому розв'язати ремінця́ від узуття́ Його я недостойний“.
“And while John was completing his course, he kept saying, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’
Мужі-браття, сини роду Авраамового, та хто богобоя́зний із вас! Для вас було по́слане слово спасі́ння цього́.
“Brethren, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.
Бо ме́шканці Єрусалиму та їхня старши́на Його не пізнали, а пророчі слова — які щосуботи читаються — вони спо́внили при́судом,
“For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.
і хоч жа́дної провини смерте́льної в Ісусі вони не знайшли, все ж просили Пилата вбити Його.
“And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.
Коли ж усе ви́повнилось, що про Нього написане, то зняли Його з дерева, та й до гробу поклали.
“When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.
Він з'являвся багато днів тим, що були поприхо́дили з Ним із Галілеї до Єрусалиму, і що тепер вони свідки Його перед лю́дьми.
and for many days He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His witnesses to the people.
І ми благовістимо́ вам ту обі́тницю, що да́на була нашим отцям,
“And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,
що її нам, їхнім дітям, Бог виконав, воскресивши Ісуса, як написано в другім псалмі: „Ти Мій Син, — Я сьогодні Тебе породив!“
that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.’
А що Він воскресив Його з мертвих, щоб більш не вернувся в зотлі́ння, те так заповів: „Я дам вам ті милості, що обіцяні вірно Давиду були!“
“As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY and SURE blessings OF DAVID.’
Тому́ то й деінде говорить: „Не даси Ти Своєму Святому побачити тлі́ння!“
“Therefore He also says in another Psalm, ‘YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.’
Бо Давид, що ча́су свого послужив волі Божій, спочив, і злучився з отцями своїми, і тлі́ння побачив.
“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;
Але Той, що Бог воскресив Його з мертвих, тлі́ння не побачив.
but He whom God raised did not undergo decay.
Отже, мужі-браття, хай відо́мо вам буде, що про́щення гріхів через Нього звіщається вам.
“Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,
І в усім, у чому ви не могли ви́правдатись Зако́ном Мойсеєвим, через Нього випра́вдується кожен віруючий.
and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
Отож, стережіться, щоб на вас не прийшло, що в Пророків провіщене:
“Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you:
„Дивіться, погордю́щі, і дивуйтеся та пощезайте, бо Я ді́ло роблю́ за днів ваших, те ді́ло, що йому не повірите ви, якби хто розповів вам!“
‘BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH;
FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS,
A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.’”
FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS,
A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.’”
А як стали вихо́дити вони, то їх про́шено, щоб на другу суботу до них говорили ті самі слова́.
As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.
А коли розійшлась синагога, то багато з юдеїв та й із нововірців побожних пішли за Павло́м та Варнавою, а вони промовляли до них і намовляли їх перебувати в благодаті Божій.
Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the grace of God.
А в наступну суботу зібралося майже все місто послухати Божого Сло́ва.
Paul Turns to the Gentiles
The next Sabbath nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the Lord.
Як юдеї ж побачили на́товп, то напо́внились за́здрощів, і стали перечити мові Павла та богозневажати.
But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.
Тоді Павло та Варнава мужньо промовили: „До вас перших потрібно було говорить Слово Боже; та коли ви його відкидаєте, а себе вважаєте за недостойних вічного життя, то ось до поган ми зверта́ємось.
Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.
Бо так заповів нам Господь: „Я світлом поставив Тебе для поган, щоб спасі́нням Ти був аж до кра́ю землі!“
“For so the Lord has commanded us,
‘I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES,
THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.’”
‘I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES,
THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.’”
А погани, почувши таке, раділи та Слово Господнє хвалили. І всі ті, хто призначений був в життя вічне, увірували.
When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.
І ширилось Сло́во Господнє по ці́лій країні.
And the word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region.
Юдеї ж підбили побожних впливових жінок та значніших у місті, і зняли́ переслі́дування на Павла та Варнаву, та й вигнали їх із своєї землі.
But the Jews incited the devout women of prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.
Вони ж, обтрусивши із ніг своїх порох на них, подалися в Іконі́ю.
But they shook off the dust of their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.
