Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death.
And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

І поховали Степа́на му́жі побожні, і плакали ревно за ним.
Some devout men buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him.
А Савл нищив Церкву, — вдирався в доми́, витягав чоловіків і жінок та давав до в'язниці.
But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison.
Ходили тоді розпоро́шенці, та Боже Слово благовісти́ли.
Philip in Samaria
Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.
Ось Пилип прийшов до самарійського міста, і проповідував їм про Христа.
Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ to them.
А люди вважали на те, що Пилип говорив, і згідно слухали й бачили чу́да, які він чинив.
The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing.
Із багатьох бо, що мали їх, ду́хи нечисті вихо́дили з криком великим, і багато розсла́блених та кривих уздорови́лися.
For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
Був один чоловік, на ім'я́ йому́ Си́мон, що до того в цім місті займавсь ворожби́тством та дурив самарійський наро́д, видаючи себе за якогось великого.
Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great;
Його слухали всі, — від найменшого аж до найбільшого, кажучи: „Він — сила Божа, що зветься велика!“
and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying, “This man is what is called the Great Power of God.”
Його ж слухалися, бо він їх довший час дивував ворожби́тством.
And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts.
Та коли йняли віри Пилипові, що благовістив про Боже Царство й Ім'я́ Ісуса Христа, чоловіки й жінки охристи́лися.
But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.
Увірував навіть сам Си́мон, і, охристившись, тримався Пилипа; а бачивши чуда й знаме́на великі, він дуже дивувався.
Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed.
Як зачули ж апо́столи, які в Єрусалимі були, що Боже Слово прийняла́ Самарі́я, то послали до них Петра та Івана.
Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John,
А вони, як прийшли, помолились за них, щоб Духа Святого вони прийняли́,
who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
бо ще ні на о́дного з них Він не схо́див, а були вони тільки охрищені в Ім'я́ Господа Ісуса.
For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Тоді на них руки поклали, і прийняли́ вони Духа Святого!
Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.
Як побачив же Си́мон, що через наклада́ння апо́стольських рук Святий Дух подається, то приніс він їм гроші,
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
і сказав: „Дайте й мені таку вла́ду, щоб той, на кого́ покладу́ свої руки, одержав би Духа Святого!“
saying, “Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
Та промовив до нього Петро: „Нехай згине з тобою те срібло твоє, бо ти ду́мав набути дар Божий за гроші!
But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
У цім ділі нема тобі частки ні уділу, бо серце твоє перед Богом не слушне.
“You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
Тож покайся за це лихе ді́ло своє, і проси Господа, — може про́щений буде тобі за́мір серця твого!
“Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.
Бо я бачу, що ти пробува́єш у жо́вчі гіркі́й та в пу́тах неправди“.
“For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.”
А Си́мон озвався й сказав: „Помоліться за мене до Господа, щоб мене не спіткало нічого з того, про що ви говорили“.
But Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
А вони ж, засвідчивши, і Слово Господнє звістивши, повернулись до Єрусалиму, і звіщали Єва́нгелію в багатьох самарійських осе́лях.
An Ethiopian Receives Christ
So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
А ангол Господній промовив Пилипові, кажучи: „Устань та на пі́вдень іди, на дорогу, що від Єрусалиму до Га́зи спускається, — порожня вона“.
But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, “Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.)
І, вставши, пішов він. І ось муж етіо́пський, скопе́ць, вельможа Канда́ки, цариці етіопської, що був над усіма́ її ска́рбами, що до Єрусалиму прибув поклонитись,
So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,
вертався, і, сидючи́ на пово́зі своїм, читав пророка Ісаю.
and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
А Дух до Пилипа промовив: „Підійди, та й пристань до цього пово́зу“.
Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.”
Пилип же підбіг і почув, що той читає пророка Ісаю, та й спитав: „Чи розумієш, що́ ти читаєш?“
Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
А той відказав: „Як же мо́жу, як ніхто не напу́тить мене?“ І впросив він Пилипа піднятись та сісти з ним.
And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
А слово Писа́ння, що його він читав, було це: „Як вівцю́ на заріз Його ве́дено, і як ягня супроти стрижія́ безголосе, так Він не відкрив Своїх уст!
Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this:
“HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER;
AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT,
SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.
“HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER;
AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT,
SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.
У прини́женні суд Йому віднятий був, а про рід Його хто розповість? Бо життя Його із землі забирається“.
“IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY;
WHO WILL RELATE HIS GENERATION?
FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH.”

Відізвався ж скопе́ць до Пилипа й сказав: „Благаю тебе, — це про ко́го говорить пророк? Чи про себе, чи про іншого кого?“
The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?”
А Пилип відкрив у́ста свої, і, зачавши від цього Писа́ння, благовістив про Ісуса йому.
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.
І, як шляхо́м вони їхали, прибули́ до якоїсь води. І озвався скопець: „Ось вода. Що мені заважає христитись?“
As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
А Пилип відказав: „Якщо віруєш із повного серця свого, то можна“. А той відповів і сказав: „Я вірую, що Ісус Христос — то Син Божий!“
[And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”]
І звелів, щоб по́віз спинився. І оби́два — Пилип та скопе́ць — увійшли до води, і охристив він його.
And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.
А коли вони вийшли з води, Дух Господній Пилипа забрав, і скопе́ць уже більше не бачив його. І він їхав, радіючи, шляхом своїм.
When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.
