Warning against Pride
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Бажаєте ви — та й не маєте, убиваєте й за́здрите — та досягнути не можете, сва́ритеся та воюєте — та не маєте, бо не проха́єте,
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
прохаєте — та не одержуєте, бо прохаєте на зле, щоб ужити на розко́ші свої.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Перелю́бники та перелю́бниці, чи ж ви не знаєте, що дружба зо світом — то ворожнеча супроти Бога? Бо хто хоче бути світові при́ятелем, той ворогом Божим стається.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Чи ви ду́маєте, що даремно Писа́ння говорить: „Жада́є аж до за́здрости Дух, що в нас пробуває“?
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Та ще більшу благода́ть дає, через що й промовляє: „Бог противиться гордим, а смиренним дає благода́ть“.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Тож підкоріться Богові та спротивляйтесь дияволові, — то й утече він від вас.
Drawing Near to God
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Набли́зьтесь до Бога, то й Бог набли́зиться до вас. Очистьте руки, грішні, та серця освятіть, двоєдушні!
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Журіться, сумуйте та плачте! Хай обернеться сміх ваш у плач, а радість у сум!
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
У покорі́ться перед Господнім лицем, — і Він вас підійме!
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Не обмовляйте, брати, один о́дного! Бо хто брата свого обмовляє або судить брата, той Зако́на обмовляє та судить Зако́на. А коли ти Зако́на осуджуєш, то ти не викона́вець Закона, але суддя.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Один Законода́вець і Суддя, що може спасти й погубити. А ти хто такий, що осуджуєш ближнього?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
А ну тепер ви, що говорите: „Сьогодні чи взавтра ми пі́дем у те чи те місто, і там рік проживе́мо, та бу́демо торгувати й заробляти“,
Do Not Boast about Tomorrow
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

ви, що не відаєте, що́ трапиться взавтра, — яке ваше життя? Бо це пара, що на хвильку з'явля́ється, а потім зникає!
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Замість того, щоб вам говорити: „Як схоче Госпо́дь та бу́демо живі, то зробимо це або те“.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
А тепер ви хва́литеся в своїх го́рдощах, — лиха́ всяка подібна хвальба́!
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
