Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Улю́блені, — ми тепер Божі діти, але ще не виявилось, що́ ми будемо. Та знаємо, що, коли з'я́виться, то бу́дем подібні до Нього, бо бу́демо бачити Його, як Він є.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
І кожен, хто має на Нього наді́ю оцю, очищає себе так же само, як чистий і Він.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Кожен, хто чинить гріх, чинить і беззако́ння. Бо гріх — то беззако́ння.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
І ви знаєте, що Він був з'явився, щоб гріхи наші взяти, а гріха в Нім нема.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Кожен, хто в Нім пробува́є, не грішить; усякий, хто грішить, не бачив Його, і не пізнав Його.
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
Діточки, хай ніхто вас не зво́дить! Хто чинить праведність, той праведний, як праведний Він!
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Хто чинить гріх, той від диявола, бо диявол грішить від поча́тку. Тому́ то з'явився Син Божий, щоб зни́щити справи диявола.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Кожен, хто родився від Бога, не чинить гріха, бо в нім пробуває насіння Його. І не може грішити, бо від Бога наро́джений він.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Цим пізнаю́ться діти Божі та діти дияволові: Кожен, хто праведности не чинить, той не від Бога, як і той, хто брата свого не любить!
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Бо це та звістка, яку від початку ви чули, — щоб любили один о́дного,

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

не так, як той Каїн, що був від лукавого, і брата свого́ забив. А за що він забив його? Бо лукаві були його вчинки, а брата його — праведні.
Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
Не дивуйтеся, бра́ття мої, коли світ вас нена́видить!
Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
Ми знаємо, що ми перейшли від смерти в життя, бо любимо братів. А хто брата не любить, пробуває той в смерті.
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
Кожен, хто нена́видить брата свого, той душогу́б. А ви знаєте, що жоден душогуб не має вічного життя, що в нім перебувало б.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Ми з того пізнали любов, що ду́шу Свою́ Він покла́в був за нас. І ми мусимо класти ду́ші за братів!
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
А хто має достаток на світі, і бачить брата свого в недостачі, та серце своє зачиняє від нього, то як Божа любов пробуває в такому?
But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Ді́точки, — любімо не словом, ані язико́м, але ді́лом та правдою!
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Із цього дові́дуємось, що ми з правди, і впокорюєм наші серця́ перед Ним,
And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
бо коли винуватить нас серце, то Бог більший від нашого серця та ві́дає все!
For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
Улю́блені, — коли не винуватить нас серце, то маємо відвагу до Бога,
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
і чого́ тільки попро́симо, одержимо від Нього, бо виконуємо Його заповіді та чинимо любе для Нього.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
І оце Його заповідь, щоб ми вірували в Ім'я́ Сина Його — Ісуса Христа, і щоб любили один о́дного, як Він нам заповідь дав!
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
