Коли Господь, Бог твій, уведе і тебе до того кра́ю, куди ти входиш, щоб заволодіти ним, то Він вижене числе́нні поганські народи перед тобою: хітте́янина, і ґірґаше́янина, і аморе́янина, і ханаане́янина, і періззе́янина, і хівве́янина, і євусе́янина, — сім народів, численніших та міцніших за тебе.
A Chosen People
“When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you,

І коли дасть їх Господь, Бог твій, тобі, то ти їх понищиш: конче учиниш їх закляттям, — не складеш із ними заповіту, і не будеш до них милосердний.
І не споріднюйся з ними: дочки́ своєї не даси його синові, а його дочки́ не візьмеш для сина свого,
You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons,
бо він відверне сина твого від Мене, і вони служитимуть іншим богам, — і запалиться Господній гнів на вас, і Він скоро тебе вигубить.
for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
Але тільки так будете їм робити: жертівники їхні порозбиваєте, а їхні стовпи поламаєте, святі їхні дере́ва постинаєте, а бовванів їхніх попалите в огні,
But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and chop down their Asherim and burn their carved images with fire.
бо ти святий наро́д для Господа, Бога свого, — тебе вибрав Господь, Бог твій, щоб ти був Йому ви́браним народом зо всіх народів, що на поверхні землі.
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Не через числе́нність вашу понад усі народи Господь уподо́бав вас та вибрав вас, бож ви найменші зо всіх народів,
It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,
але з Господньої любови до вас, і через доде́ржання Його прися́ги, що присягнув був вашим батькам, — Господь вивів вас сильною рукою, і викупив тебе з дому ра́бства, з руки фараона, царя єгипетського.
but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
І ти пізна́єш, що Господь, Бог твій, — Він той Бог, той Бог вірний, що стереже заповіта та милість для тих, хто любить Його, та хто доде́ржує Його заповіді на тисячу поколінь,
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
і що надолу́жить нена́висникам Своїм, їм самим, щоб вигубити їх; не загаїться Він щодо Свого нена́висника, — відплатить йому самому.
and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face.
А ти будеш виконувати заповіді й постанови та зако́ни, що Я сьогодні наказую виконувати їх.
You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.
І станеться, — за те, що ви будете слухатися цих зако́нів, і будете додержувати, і будете виконувати їх, то й Господь, Бог твій, буде додержувати для тебе заповіт та милість, що був присягнув батькам твоїм.
“And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers.
І буде Він любити тебе, і поблагосло́вить тебе, і розмно́жить тебе, і поблагосло́вить плід твоєї утро́би та плід твоєї землі, — збіжжя твоє, і сік твій виногра́дний, і сік твоїх оли́вок, по́рід биків твоїх і коті́ння ота́ри твоєї на тій землі, яку присягнув батькам твоїм дати тобі.
He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.
Ти будеш благослове́нний поміж усіма наро́дами, — не буде серед тебе безплідного та безплідної, також і між худобою твоєю.
You shall be blessed above all peoples. There shall not be male or female barren among you or among your livestock.
І Господь відхи́лить від тебе всяку хворобу, і жодних лютих єгипетських неду́г, які ти знаєш, не наведе́ їх на тебе, а дасть їх на всіх твоїх ворогів.
And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you.
І ти винищиш всі ті народи, що Господь, Бог твій, дає тобі, — не змилосе́рдиться око твоє над ними, і не будеш служити їхнім богам, бо то па́стка для тебе.
And you shall consume all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you. Your eye shall not pity them, neither shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
Коли скажеш у серці своїм: „Ті люди численні́ші від мене, — як я зможу вигнати їх?“ —
“If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’
не бійся їх! Пильно пам'ятай, що́ зробив був Господь, Бог твій, фарао́нові та всьому Єгиптові, —
you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt,
ті великі випробо́вування, що бачили твої очі, і ознаки та чу́да, і сильну руку та ви́тягнене раме́но, що ними вивів тебе Господь, Бог твій, — так Господь, Бог твій, учинить усім тим наро́дам, що ти їх боїшся.
the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So will the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
Також і ше́ршнів пошле Господь, Бог твій, на нього, аж поки не вигинуть позосталі та ті, що поховалися перед тобою.
Moreover, the Lord your God will send hornets among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed.
Не бійся їх, бо серед тебе Господь, Бог твій, Бог великий та страшни́й.
You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.
І викидатиме Господь, Бог твій, тих людей помалу з-перед тебе; не зможеш вигубити їх скоро, щоб не розмно́жилася над тобою польова́ звірина́.
І дасть їх Господь, Бог твій, перед тобою, і побенте́жить їх великим бентеженням, аж поки не будуть ви́гублені.
But the Lord your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
І віддасть їхніх царів у руку твою, а ти вигубиш їхнє ім'я́ з-під неба, — не встоїть ніхто перед тобою, аж поки ти не ви́губиш їх.
And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under heaven. No one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.
Бовва́нів їхніх богів попа́лите в огні, — не будеш жадати срібла та золота, що на них, і не ві́зьмеш його собі, щоб тим не впасти до па́стки, бо то оги́да для Господа, Бога твого.
The carved images of their gods you shall burn with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.
І не внесеш цієї оги́ди до дому свого, і не станеш закляттям, як вона. Конче зоги́диш її, і конче будеш бри́дитися нею, бо закля́ття вона.
